I have to put up with this on Monday.

I live in Perth, spare a few thoughts for me on Monday please! I'll have Eagles supporters who never talk to me, let alone know my name coming up saying "what happended to Caaarlton!?"

I wish you all in Melbourne could see the Perth news tonight.

Some top notch positive footy with 7 minutes to go, kick to kick with the kids, a few World Cup worthy dives, another excellent Goldspink decision- doesn't really matter as it would have been a draw anyway. Gee that Benny Cousin's is a damn champ ain't he?!

Too scared to win, I hope Lance's sholder is OK. There's always next week, I have been saying that way too much this year- I could cry. I am beyond frustrated, I might go and kick a few goals up at the footy ground to help relieve the strain.

Go Blues!

I didn't get to see the game, as I was working. When the guys at work told me that West Coast were ahead by a point with a minute or so to go, I though they were just mucking around, because we had just been talking about last week :(
Anyway, from what I've heard, umpiring was a joke...... Whitnall was getting cocky too early

All in all - :(

i was there... best i've seen us play at Optus Oval this year.. although that's not too hard! we kicked 2 goals in a row which i don't thikn we've done there this whole year!!!!
very disapointing to lose that one... i was shaking so much in the last quarter, but i was warm from all the screaming i'd be doing (actually screaming for good reasons which was new) but there were positives to be taken from teh game... Fletcher had a great game.. and Merro did very well...
umpiring was pretty bad... but not worth blaming.. i was just glad to be interested in watching the game rather than checking out the cloud formations over Optus Oval for once...

Carlton will be OK

The game was a pretty good standard of footy. As a Bulldog supporter i can relate to how gutted you feel losing those close games, we`ve lost a few like that this year ourselves. You guys are playing good footy, your just not getting over the line for a win at the moment similar to us in the first five rounds. I think your on the right track with having to play the young guys giving them much needed experience and possibly changing the clubs mindset of topping up the list with experienced players each year instead of looking to the future. All teams will go through rebuilding periods from here on in with Carlton no exception, so keep your heads up, things will turn around guys. Good luck.

heheh I dont think so some how. We were in front most of the day. Cuz killed ya in the last quarter.
We double you guys for marks for the day and had 40 possessions more, more tackles and won easily the centre clearances Jod. It didn't all happen in the last few minutes either. The Eagles made more of their opportunities against a side that didn't know how to win or respond to the pressure. If we were sitting on the fringes of the 8, we would have ran away with that. I remember saying over and over that with the amount of play we had, we should have been 10 goals in front. The Eagles leading for almost 3 quarters belies the amount of opportunity Carlton had to create something.

Yeah you were ahead in the stats but stats dont tell the whole story, we took our opportunities and thats why we led for most of the game. Your lot didnt, i wouldnt say you dominated the game, otherwise you wouldve won by 10 goals.

The only thing you can look at at the end of the day to how close the game was, is the shots on goal.

If you look at WC's stats for the year, you will see that we play pretty direct football (resulting in fewer possesions) and aren't a terribly good marking side. Most of our run starts in defence and just continues unless there is a person clear up the ground.

Carlton were much less direct and played a different style (more chipping around, waiting for the right option). Plus you can add a few more possesions just because of your players ****ing around with the ball in the last 10 minutes.

On the centre clearances, when Cox actually got a hand on the ball (and I am referring to the umpire bouncing the ball straight to your ruckman Merrington and don't try and deny it either, go look at the replay) I am sure we would have done better in the centre clearances.

To sum it up, stats aren't everthing. Look at Freo last year, they ranked quite high in total possesions but how good were they? You got to look at the use of the ball, not how often it was used...

You have to remember that Carlton rushed a lot of your behinds through so shots on goal is not a true indicator either.

The reason we didn't make the most of our opportunities was painfully obvious. We hadn't won a game for 8 matches before Saturday and had a heap of youngsters in the side. Our decision making was poor as per usual and we panicked late in the game. It has happened against every team we have played this year so you can't suggest that it was the Eagles doing it to us. We have no confidence and tend to implode regularly.
