do you guys reckon that was an alright idea giving it to the captain? or would have you preferred a different option? if so what?

cheers haychf! :D

i like the idea, i think its original and respectful. he will always be Captain Blood, and now our captains will always have to have the same attributes

I think this tradition will grow with age.

I love the idea. Jack Dyer was what Richmond was all about. He lived and breathed playing hard and tough footy. Pity our current captain hasn't taken anything out of the honour of having 17 on his back. But as i said, as it grows, the respect for it will too.

Sometimes I think that Id rather the player (say Coughlan - 24) keep his number and make that a number to be remembered.

Id rather there be no captains number and 17 just get dropped.

Allan Edwards also wore 17.

LMAO@My drunken statement about nothing really to do with the thread
other than the number 17.

i would have preferred a small 17 on every ones jumper......... but what we have isnt that bad either!

I tend to agree. If a player makes a name in his own number, it detracts abit from his own achievements by swapping numbers. Campell made his name in the number 9, and while he will finish off his career back in that number, changing to 17 for a short time seemed a bit unnecessary. I think the club just went a bit Big Jack crazy with the outpouring of grief when the big fella passed away.
