The big Irishmen as much as we all love him and as much as he tries hard and as good as he has been the past few weeks proved to me on three or four occasions today (three of them in the final quarter) that he still has a long way to go in grasping the finer points of the game.

On many occasions Setanta ran back with the flight of the ball, leaving his direct opponent, impeding on our defender in the contest, once the ball came to ground his direct opponent had miles of space to get the crumbs as nobody was down for us and kick an easy goal, this happened three times in the last quarter and resulted in a goal every time, once to Laycock who Setanta was marking as the ball came in and once to Lucas a minute or two later, he did this on numerous occassions today. He was the third man of ours in at more than one contest, he was not needed in these contents and should have been minding his own man at ground level instead of running back ten to twenty meters like a madman, affecting the contest which we would have had covered in most instances.

This error of judgement on more than one occasion by him cost us goals at crucial times, where was the message from Ratts to tell him that his input in those contests was not necessary at those times? As he did it on more than one occassion and it cost us goals every time. I hope they pull him aside during the week and show him the tape of those contests and the resulting goals that he cost us by not summing up the situation properly by leaving his direct opponent and "helping" out a teammate that didn't need his input which resulted in easy crumbing goals by his direct opponents which one of them was a resting ruckman ffs!

He still has to grow a footy brain the big Irish, dont get me started on the rest of them today, deplorable display, they thought they'd waltz in and pick up the four points, reality check did them the world of good imo.

Yeah, I thought he was the reason we lost. Did you like his two previous games?

Loved his two previous efforts, he was not the sole reason we lost today, in fact one on one with Lucas he was excellent, but his multiple errors of judgment did cost us a number of goals at crucial stages in that last quarter and one or two earlier on as well.

I only hope that the coaching staff were awake to this and it is highlighted to him.

Glad sum 1 else noticed this. He will keep getting better. cant blame him. shouldnt have been in there that much.

Ive got no problems going back with the flight to help a team mate out, but he should have killed the contest. Belt the ball 30 metres into the grandstand, dont try and take a gutsy 'hero' mark. Just do the basic things that help the team out.

By no means can we single Irish out and say he was the reason we lost. He had many friends today. Murph turned the ball over countless times by foot, Judd couldnt get a kick in a street fight(taken into account he's carrying a niggle+concussion) and Scotland was pretty well held. Jarrads decision making really let him down when he got hands on the ball.

But as always theres a few positives here and there. Fev was tremendous. Kade Simpson gives it his all every week, I have a huge amount of respect for him. Nick Stevens finishing skills are class(still could run harder defensively for mine) and Carrazo, get the boy in front of the big sticks! 2 goals straight!! Boy did i cringe both times!:D

Yes........he had a bad day.

Yes.......the bombers knew we tend to all fly at the footy and waited down.

No.......he shouldn't get dropped for Austin. Setanta was one of the main reasons we won in the last two weeks. He has played just under 50 games of league footy.

Because he is older we expect so much more, but he is still learning. Today he made some bad decisions and it cost us.

Maybe the questions should be asked of the midfield who, despite being highly rated, barely raised the flag today. The amount of ball coming into the Dons forward line..........it was ridiculous.

Why would they do that lol

I know one thing, at the quarter time huddle the first thing Ratts did was pull Carlos aside and give him one of the best sprays you've ever seen. I always have the glasses on the huddle. Felt sorry for the poor bloke. He's such a genuine trier, he seemed really subdued and embarrassed by it.

Yeah I kept an eye on it too! Ratts didnt hold back. Carlos just nodded his head. Wonder what was going through his head..............

Noticed this too and mentioned it earlier. Yes I agree sometimes he didnt need to go back, but I've got no problem with people helping out their fellow defenders, the problem in this case was that he either got only light touches on the ball, no touch at all, or tried to mark it but didn't. Just needed to punch the ball and punch it hard if you are going to leave your man to help.

Was dissapointing as actually did a very good job on Lucas. Had a bad day, as others did too, but has been good the last few weeks. Won't be dropped.

He was very good last week. Todays performance might see Austin get a run.

Why?

He's been good for a while. So one bad game for Irish automatically means we should drop him?

Going by your statement we should also droop 3/4 of the squad today.
All played good last week...this week not so good.

It may have been a mistake - I now don't think those I was reading too much into those TV close-ups of a sad Carlos

You have not been keeping up around here Berisha - that is apparently the way things are supposed to go :)

I'm still getting used to wanting to drop Carrots and trade/delist Russell after every game.

Just quietly in the den of night - I was slightly disappointed that the offensive game of Russ, Army and Carlos seemed to go missing today. Guess it was the pressure of the ball coming out of the centre creating a very defensive mindset

I thought Irish did ok considering the ball was coming down there with ease. Pity our midfield was getting smacked to all parts of the MCG

He was a lost soul out theer and possibly played a hand in at least 4 - 5 goals for the Dons. Very disappointing game from him as he didnt see to know when to contest the high ball and when he did he was out of sorts.

With regards to helping his teammate out, every time he did this he in actual fact put his teammate out of the contest, I remember Jamo being knocked out of the contest by Irish in the last, the ball spilled and an easy goal resulted. If you come in from behind or the side i'm all for gettting a second man up in a contest....but Irish ran back with the flight every time and actually did more harm than good. He has to get better at summing up the situation and harnessing his emotions out on the ground. It was good that he was hungry to help but he has to be aware of the pros and cons of his actions. The smarter thing for him to do in all of those situation particularly in the last quarter was to stay down!

I don't believe we should drop anybody next week. This was easily the worst game we played all year.

Keep the same side and see who bounces back, next week will show where the players are at. We have the youngest side and of course there will be lows, just yesterday almost everyone bar Fev and Stevens had a low.

If some players don't perform next week then it's justified. Going into yesterdays match there wasn't one person that hadn't earned their spot over the past 3 weeks.

i've said it once and i'll say it again, he should never play another game for the Carlton Football Club. AN out and out spud, he can go hang out with Deluca as far as I'm concerned!!!

Don't worry I certainly noticed how many times he stuffed up the 3rd man up.

The problem was he was trying to do this coming from front on to the contest which is very hard to do & to do without giving away a free kick.

I suggest he limits his 3rd man up contests to come from behind or the side.
