Decided to create a thread about the changes that we should make, which players are trade bait, which players should be delisted and which players should we go after.

I will start with, I think Simon Buckley, L.Rounds, K. Ugle and T.Young to be delisted followed by Ben Johnson and Chris Tarrant to retire, maybe even Alan Didak, I don't think his body can hold up playing AFL football anymore.

I really want us to go after Caddy and Giles, although I think that grumpy old fool by the name of Sheedy will do anything he can to not allow Giles to join Collingwood.

I'd like to see bucks moved on, i know he was a great player-great media person and very well spoken, but that doesn't mean he's a great coach, we've slipped so far since he took over during a period where we should be getting better, i have no idea what the game plan is, i don't think the players do either, everything is rushed and has been all season, our 2011 worst was better than our 2012 best (round 22 the exception), as i've said before, 2012 was not a year to change coaches, ****ing ridiculous, thanks Edd.

A quaility ruckman like Giles or failing that, a backup, Martin or Pederson. Also some leg speed. Might be ok with rookie listing Ugle.

Last year we made it to the Granny, this year we missed it by a week.

I'm happy with Bucks, hoping we have better luck injury wise next year.

Why are people writing off Dids?

Would like to see Dids / johnno go around again. Dids needs a massive preseason to get his body's right otherwise he is stuffed. No need for massive changes to the list, but we do need to give quality if we are wanting to trade some quality in. Happy to trade Wellingham if helps to get a quality ruck man in to help Jolly.

I don't see too many deficiencies other than a genuine 2nd ruck option who can go forward when required. I guess we'd all be hoping that Cegs and/or Witts can cross the chasm next year but I don't think they will be up to standard by the time Jolls calls it quits so I think we need a player who can bridge that transition when it comes.

I'm a big fan of Dids and Johnno and I would like to see them both go around again too. We have a reasonable crop of youngsters coming through but I think we need to keep some experienced players until they get a few more games under their belts.

Not much to change
With Ball, Macaffer, Williams and Keeffe (see how I use two F's) all fit it gives us some quality and depth.

If Caddy and Toy were available at the right price then in my opinion they would be great additions

Wood, Buckley, Ugle to be either traded or delisted.
Put a lot of work into Witts and Gault to fill the second ruck role

Totally agree. Possibly also look at picking up some more experienced coaching staff as well. It might be nice to pay back some of those clubs who have stripped our cupboards in recent years and I think we could use a bit more support in that area.

Yes and that is the other very important part of change.
With no limit on how much we can spend on our football department some more good quality Assistant Coaches is a very good strategy.
I wish Scott Burns was available.

Williams will be a great replacement for Johno. They both are average users of the ball but Williams is simply younger, fresher and can run more and put more pressure on.

Also if we are to get Giles then add Wood to the delisted list. There is no way we can have 5 ruckmen on our list, it's just too much and he is also no good.

Bingo!
I'm sick of being known as the breeder club for turning assistants into senior coaches, I want to be known as the club coaches want to be at like Hawthorn seem to be.

We need take advantage of the lack of restrictions around footy department expenses while its available and start poaching the best coaches from other clubs as opposed to losing them to everyone else. How hard would it be to attract coaches to our club. Who the hell wouldnt want to coach in the best facilities in the comp?? Says to me we're obviously not offering enough which i find amazing given we will send a player to Arazona mid season at the drop of a hat. we're not exactly short of cash.

We've gone from having the best group to literally the worst crop, lets look at them:

Robert Harvey - makes people cringe whenever he opens his mouth he is so simple.
Ben Hart - must be responsible for the worst kick in strategy in the AFL, in fact the worst i have witnessed in my football watching life. Yeah lets kick short to the pocket EVERY single time, hold it up and let the opposition set up by flooding that sode of the ground.
Matthew Lappin - responsible for taking us from having the best forward defensive pressure in the AFL to the worst in the space of 12 months. If it wasnt for Goldsack we wouldnt lay a tackle.
A.Rocca - say no more

I cant believe Bucks settled for his current crop of misfits even though he had 2 years to plan for it.

As for Bucks, I'm prepared to give him the beneift of the doubt for another year given the events he's had to deal with this year but he would want to start implimenting a new game plan other than the 1960's style we used last night.
I would argue man for man we have the best list in the comp but unless we are smarter with our tactics we wont get to the next level where we should be.

3 areas Bucks needs to improve on tactically:

1. Need a defensive zone/press/box whatever you want to call it. we cannot rely on an infrequent man on man manic pressure game plan all season its too taxing, even then we only rolled it out about 4 times. The rest of the time we just relied on pure talent to get us through which isnt sustainable.
2. Improved kick-in strategy. the current one is so predictable its embarressing
3. A genuine tagger - for godsake Bucks they have been used by every club over the last 100 years so they must have merit.

Re 2nd Ruck: Yep, and Ceglar - whichever one puts their hand up first. Let Dawes play largely as a forward [although a few minutes in the ruck to get him into it wouldn't hurt at times. Unless a really great option from another club emerges we can get the same kind of impact from within.

Re Good users out of backline: What would Rob Murphy cost us for maybe 3 years of footy?

I hear Scotty Burns has wanted to keep his young family settled in one place, but let's move heaven and earth for him please.
SSB and Lingy maybe?

Don't agree with Didak. He's been injured all season and can get back to his best in '13. We really need him.

Wellingham, I agree with. IMO he's just a generic midfielder, whose loss we could easily cover internally. A couple of years back he looked like he would become something special, but that's not going to eventuate. Too interested in the night life and not as switched on upstairs compared to star players.

I agree with the rest of your delistings apart from Young. Give him another year or two.. I think we can still get something out of him.

Someone has to pay, i want justice damn it!!, this is an outrage!

I definitely haven't been impressed by our coaching staff.

All of Hart, Harvey and Lappin are very average assistants and not exactly "quality communicators".

Agree with everyhting you said but there is one glaring omission from the list of delistings and that is CAMERON WOOD. His locker should have been cleared out at 10:35pm last night.

I would also throw Yagmoor on the list. Will never make it. Extremely soft and lazy and appears disinterested for large parts of a game.

If Eade changes his mind and goes to Port, I want the club to move heaven and earth to replace him with Paul Roos or maybe Leigh Mathews.

Leigh puts shit on Collingwood in the media at every opportunity. Roos would be a great get - the club will probably look at Ratten too.

Totally agree with this. Going backwards for the sake of making a coaching change when you are at your peak borders on utter stupidity by our administration.

HOWEVER whats done is done and Buckley should be given 1 more year to show we are heading in the right direction. If we dont improve next year then his contract should be terminated. Bucks himself admitted in the post game interview that we have fallen this year which I can admire him for as he sees what has taken place unlike a few here who refuse to even contemplate the obvious.

All the excuses in the world have been made during the year about our shortcomings, some legitimate but most just made up rubbish. A team with such talent should not play so poorly and the Buckley is the man in charge.
