If Gold Coast bid at pick 2 purely just to force our hand at pick 3, then we are getting screwed.
No, we are screwing ourselves. We have a choice - to not match their bid on him.

The backlash from the supporter base would be absolutely enormous if we don't match the bid, and the club knows that - so whilst we technically have a choice, in reality we don't.No, we are screwing ourselves. We have a choice - to not match their bid on him.
Well lets just assume JV wasn't a father son, he's been tipped by recruiters (on the AFL website) to go around 6-8.

That 1st year of developing was done under Bailey, surprised he's worth a top 20 pick now.Pick 3 for a kid that we have spent two years developing as a junior, organising his training regimen to suit our needs and teaching the game plan to? Sounds like a bargain to me.
and viney is the best inside mid in the draft by a decent marginIf GC bid on Viney then they want him. I mean they do have a pretty bad need for another inside mid so either Viney or Toumpas would be their best bets you'd think.
It will be burnt, pissed on, dried, burnt again, pissed on again and the ashes faxed to werribee
If we can get JV with pick 26, I would really like to use picks 3 & 4 on Grundy and Wines, I read somewhere that JV and Wines have pretty much grew up together and are great mates. Two hard at it mids we need. With pick 13 I reckon we might be a chance to get Hogan from GWS, maybe chuck in a Morton or Bate as well. What would be better pick 13 and player for Hogan and their next pick, but that might be pushing it a little though. I don't really want to use pick 3 or 4 on the 17 year olds.
But JV can't wear #12, #31 is free, or it a curse?
Wines is in the mold of Colin Sylvia. I'd highly doubt we will get Hogan for pick 13.And there is also the chance we will trade 13I haven't seen Wines play, have only heard about him. Is he quick? We need some pace in the midfield. Grundy looks to be a lock. He seems to good to pass up at 3. So we hope and prey we can get Viney with 2nd rounder so we can pick up a decent mid and the tall Grundy. If Stef gets traded, then I reckon Grundy is definitely coming our way. I don't mind giving pick 13 for Hogan. It sounds like he could be a Jeremy Cameron type.
Grundy, Wines(Toumpas) and Viney with Hogan locked away would be a great draft for us I reckon. Throw in a few senior FA players like Byrnes, Koby Stevens, Monfries etc, and the off season could be very good to us...

He doesn't have Sylvia's explosive athleticism or kicking - both big bodied, hard at it and good tacklers though.
Thanks for talkin reason!I'm ambivalent. If we use pick 3, so be it. Pick 20-odd would be nice, but whatever will be will be
I think that there's some form of angst seeing teams like Geelong take Generational Players (GAJ / Scarlett) with pick 500, we finally get a WORTHY F/S selection (...no, Chris Johnson wasn't worthy) and we may have to use a very, very low pick
Everyone wants to maximise their teams chances
Getting Viney in 2nd round wouldn't exactly hurt, if you know what I mean
Would Toumpas be a better option? Sounds like he might have a bit more class about him. We will have Sylvia, Jones, Viney who can do the grunt work in the middle. I feel we need a bit more class in the middle of the ground...
i think Toumpas is a big big chance at 2 mate, we wont get the choice
It's a no-brainer. We take Toumpas. Despite the hysteria from some posters about him, I doubt that Grundy will get drafted in the top 6.Fair enough. But if we have to take Viney with pick 3, and both Toumpas and Grundy are both available for us at pick 4, who should we take? That's a tough call. We need class in the middle, so I'd be tempted to take Toumpas ahead of Grundy. But i guess it depends on whether we keep the likes of Gysberts or Martin and if Neeld plans on using pick 13 on a young mid or trade it for Hogan or a senior player on another list. Geez, a lot of our plans depend on whether we can get Viney with our 2nd rounder. I'm still doubtful, but it would be a massive boost for us if we do...
I wouldn't assume JV will let Col keep his number. He might though if Col asks really, really, nicely. But JV can't wear #12, #31 is free, or it a curse?
