I can't see us using pick 70, rather saving that spot for PSD3.

Even with 49 & 53 well be up against it. I don't see the point in going safe here, we have an abundance of middle of the road types who are giving honest service like Tom McDonald, lets roll the dice on a couple of speculative "live wires" who might need a little bit of work.

With 2 or 3 Dom Barry types we improve our chances of one of them coming good and Rodan and Bynres won't be on our list forever, they are simply buying us some time and offering an injection of leadership.

Shannon Taylor?

I know he has piss weak endurance, but he is lightning quick over 30 metres.

I only know what I read online about these players but if he can run, finish in front of goal and read the play and the FD believe they can build his tank then sure, that's the player type we could use.

Going by Quigley's description he sounds like a young Rodan. I'm sure there are many other options too and I'll trust the FD but I just think we've (rightly) played a straight bat so far let's be a little liberal with these later picks.

I think that I'd take a potential 10 year CHB over a 'livewire' any day.
You're missing the point mate. Had we not recruited those types in the past then I'd say we have to be a little more conservative and go for a McDonald type but now that we've covered many of those bases now is the time to open up a bit with these later picks. We've laid the foundations.

I'm simply using TM as a benchmark in the draft. When you add other recruits like Sellar, Gillies, Pedo and the like we aren't going to get a guaranteed starter by hunting more KPD types at 49/53, there is too much competition and they're a couple of years in front - Neeld got them for a reason.

We have nothing to lose in adding another small who offers us some dash in the forward half. Re-read the comments Harrington and co made about Rodan.

Unless that livewire turns into a game changing X-factor for the club, something we have very little of. Not a knock on a Tom McDonald but Rand still has a decent point, albeit a risky one.

My point wasn't really about TM per se, I think HFF has misread it. What I was saying was that at best well get another TM level player (playing it safe) but were already covered in that area. Davis is in the shed as a backup and we've recruited some more mature bodies. TM could go on to be a 10 yr player no doubt, I like him - saying he is honest is a compliment about his attitude and the type of player Neeld is after.

We've reached a point now wrt these later picks where the biggest risk is to not take risks at all. We still have PSD3 to get ourselves another decent (safer) prospect.

Could get us valuable trade currency in one sense.

But I see what you're saying.

whispers getting stronger that Toumpas will slip to us and we'll take him over Wines...

This could just be that the original rumour has spread and more people are repeating it.

Not long now fellas, I'm Getting pretty pumped, Pretty happy with the talent this year so I got a feeling were picking up a star no matter what happens.

I look forward to the day when I don't have to look forward to the draft. Love watching it but would be quite happy to see us with pick 15 after we finished in the Top 4...

As much as I'd love Toumpas; Silvagni is saying GWS will take the best player available with their picks.

IMO, that's Whitfield, Toumpas and Grundy... In that order.
Menzel, Stringer, Plowman are all better, but have been injured in the last year.

All better than who? Those three listed above? Toumpas and Grundy I'm sure you could make a case for but Whitfield has been the stand out for 12 months.

GWS taking best available could be two of Menzel, Grundy or Stinger imo along with Whitfield. It could easliy be argued that Stinger is the biggest talent in the draft and Menzel if not injured would be big time talked about? so do their injuries and the fact that Grundy is a ruck make them less best available?

Not Whitfield obviously, but the other two.
