Why do people keep talking about dropping White for Hogg?

White and Hayden replaced Watson and Martyn. Hogg has been struggling to play cos we keep playing the 4 quicks. Hogg at #7 then 4 quicks is just way too long a tail.

Hogg isnt that bad at batting, White coming in at 7 doesnt exactly fill you with confidence either. Plus side for Hogg replacing White is that we would finally have that 5th bowler. At the moment that is Australias one weakness, Symonds will never pick up a bag and will most likely go for more than 5 an over and White isnt bowling.

White at 7 adding 5 and 5 in his last 2 innings isnt adding much either. He's only had one good innings

White bowling figures have been:
3 overs for 27 (Peterson took him to the cleaners)
3 overs 1 for 22 (Got tonked by Taylor and Fulton, came on at the end to pick up a cehap wicket with the 9th wicket to fall)
2 overs 1 for 5 (that too thelast wicket was the last one to fall, getting tonked in the search for quick runs)
1 over 6 runs (Hardly awe inspiring)

White's being picked on his all-round abilities, not purely as a numebr 7 batsman despite what people are trying to spin. He's had one good innings with the other 2 being failures. When given the oppurtunity in the opening 2 fixtures, he got tonked, plain and simple. His only 2 wickets have come after the others bowlers have done the damage with him picking up cheap wickets from the tail enders trying to tonk him.

Apart from one innings, White has been sub-par with both bat and ball. Hogg may make the tail a little longer, but given White's underwhelming performances thus far, they can't do any worse.

For the record White has a first class batting average of 36, Hogg's is 34....

Re: Bat CL White AT 4

Crossy, Armberger...hell, couldn't they bring back Matthew Mott? Just rename Australia as Victoria.....

EDIT...forgot Wise, Harwood and Moss.....

On balance Hogg is probably superior because he's the better bowler which gives him good all-round quality but White's more of a power hitter. But had White been given LBW early in his second hit, his performances so far would leave a bit to be desired. Selectors should make up their minds before the WC about these 2.

Re: Bat CL White AT 4

I'll have a stab at his WC 30:

White, Hodge, Harwood, D Hussey, Denton, Moss, McDonald, Klinger, Crothswaite, Lewis, Joseland, Wise, Jewell, Holland, Siddle, Finch, Harrison, Mangan, Huckett, Innes, Knowles, Rummans, Dart, Cassell, Welsford, Nannes, Gale, Nevill, Baldwin, Arnberger.

Re: Bat CL White AT 4

Bushranger is right. Ponting is screwing White over. Not given enough opportunities with the ball, and not allowing him to build an innings.
This is the same treatment that ********ed Hodge over.

Re: Bat CL White AT 4

I agree .. .bat CL White at 4 ... in District B grade.

mmmmm, south australias batting stars might make a run in district b grade .... then again maybe not

White is a 23 year old making his way in international cricket, he has shown enough to say he will be handy, but lets not let that get in the way for some old fashion parachial bullshyte

Yes, lets overlook the facts the last 2 games he was given the chance to help save Australia when they were in trouble and managed 5 both times....

Or the fact when Ponting did throw him the ball in the earlier games Peterson took to him, then Taylor and Fulton took to him which is the reason Ponting has no faith in him...

But no really, it's all Ricky Pontings fault right
I'm guessing its also Pontings fauly Hodge got out for the duck the other night as well right?

Re: Bat CL White AT 4

If Clarke opens, this could be an option. Keep symo at 5 Mayb Voges at 6 and Hussey at 7 to be the saviour.

Re: Bat CL White AT 4

White will not and should not bat above Symonds or Hussey.

I mention this because Symo has been good at number 5 so dont change it, Hussey has been great in saving matches for Australia. Also people feel that White is wasted batting at 7 and bats at 4 for Victoria.

Roy has destroyed teams batting at 4 for both Australia and Queensland. Both Symonds and Hussey bat higher in their state teams. If White is wasted at 7, why drop Hussey even lower? It's alright saying "well that's where he bats for Victoria", but he doesn't deserve to be above those others and there is no reason why he should.

:D

But no seriously, until Watson gets back from injury there isn't anyone who can replace White in the side so there's no point talking about dropping him.
