You did have some good second half chances, but Heskey screwed up royally and bar Kewell's goal you couldn't put anything away. Thus you didn't deserve a point. It isn't like you were the only ones creating chances in the second half. If you were unlucky to not draw, we were unlucky not to win 5-1.

No, I was referring to the game as a whole. We didn't even look threatened in the first half, and even in the second it took some brilliance from Giggs to break the game open. For the last 20 minutes we were on top, it's just a pity that brick of ours couldn't hit the side of a barn.

Ironically, I thought United played like Houllier's "get them all behind the ball".....perhaps Fergie had Liverpool's Bucharest mud bath in mind. Let you guys run out of petrol and attack in the 2nd half. If that was his thinking, then it worked a treat.

Agree to some extent, but the fact we ran out the game the stronger doesn't really suggest that. Man U made quite a few errant passes in the first half.

RVN didn't have a good game, Kewell was probably Liverpool's best, but I disagree with Gerrard. He did get the ball in the first half, but did little with it. In the second half, he got overrun by Keane and Phizza when it mattered.

Yes, it was a good battle, but Gerrard was let down by Murphy's complete lack of contribution. If you watch the 2nd half, it was Gerrard who sparked a lot of our moves. It doesn't help that he is playing a bit deeper than usual in the absence of Hamann.

I like Pongolle's enthusiasm, and he and TLT didn't lie down. But you guys should probably avoid any Jod23ish declarations of their star status until they do the business over a few seasons.

TLT I'm not sure about. I only want to start Sinama-Pongolle when Owen and Baros are unavailable. Our goal scoring record with those two missing is atrocious. Might as well throw caution to the wind. GH started Mellor in a few games last year and S-P looks more promising.

Blokes like Berger and Riise shone for a season before disappearing.

Berger had one good game and lived off it for years. Riise should have played - he gets criticised for his defending at times, but I doubt he would have let Ryan Giggs score twice.

No penalty for mine.

I'm truly shocked that you took that point of view.

I can't belive Heskey missed that last chance. He has to go if we are to be a legitimitat title threat (in coming sesons).

Dudek has to go as well. he makes some great saves and plays good games but makes too many mistakes when it matters. If you accpet what he does then you are accpeting not winning the titel in my view. A bit harsh but I think Kirkland would be a better otpion.

We miss Hamman a lot. Murhphy has had a poor season IMO.

Harry played well again nad has proved to be a good buy.

Heskey must go.

At least we have attempted to play a different style of play this season - but if Owen and Baros were fit I'm sure we would still be hoiking long balls for them to chase all day.

And regardless of what style we are playing - the results aren't coming and too many of his signings haven't come through with the goods.

I would give him the rest of the season and if we don't make the Champions League again he has to go.

We need a decent replacement. If we could get Martin O'Neill I would be more than happy. I don't think Thompson should get it.

I have my doubts that Thompson will be given the job. He's been working with Houllier for the last few years and I doubt that promoting him will inspire too much confidence.

There were reports that Fergie is looking at extending his contract. If that happens, then O'Neill might give up on trying to get to Old Trafford and accept the job at Anfield. He would be a good choice...he took Leicester to a couple of Cup finals and he's done well with Celtic (who are a reasonable chance of progressing to the knock out stages of the Champions League).

I like what Curbishley has done with Charlton, and I don't think they would stand in the way if Liverpool offerred him the job, but I don't think he would be the man who could take Liverpool back to their glory days.

As a manager, his focus and skill is on bargain buys and survival. If he's to go to Liverpool, he has to change his mentality. The other thing is that I can't recall Curbishley wanting to climb the managerial ladder to lead one of the bigger clubs.

I remember he strongly denied he was leaving when the Wham job became vacant, but whenever I hear him talk about the Tottenham job, he hasn't flat out denied he was interested, preferring the usual management say something without saying anything speak.

When Glenda was given the sack I posted that Curbishley woudl end up at Tottenham, I still think he will. IMO he would jump at the chance of moving to Liverpool, and they could do much worse.

Well, considering this is a soccer board, I won't make a comment on your lame AFL comparison (even if it is true - both won last "league" in '91).

Shame every word I said was true. Houllier should have gone last year when you didn't make CL. You won't make it again, but hey, you can win another UEFA Cup. That'll give Gerard and his big-nosed cronie another year leading your club to second class European contests.

i'm a liverpool fan, i thought the no penalty call was correct. disappointing result, a draw would have been nice. but we obviously are a long way off the better teams. the season was gone after the 3rd round any way when we had already fallen 8 points behind and sat in 16th place.

i doubt we'll get fourth spot. fifth is still a chance though.

in summary, Heskey's crap and he does my head in. can't we dump him somewhere? how on earth does he get a game for england? sort of goes hand in hand really. liverpool and england, perennial underachievers.

I think the main reason that has changed is because of the price and availability of tickets. I think if that sort of thing happened now, most would go to cheer the opposition, but you still would get the odd one that would support the team from Manchester against the team from outside Manchester.

I actually met one of these strange creatures in the pub the other day, I dare say there are not too many of them left, definately a dying breed.

Did you even read my post? I never said United's goals came from luck? I said the first was Dudek being an idiot and the second was poor defending. Gigg's first was a simple cross that Dudek misread and ended up in the net and the second was poor defending after a fantastic cross. Traore and Hyypia went to RVN with nobody covering the back post and Giggs did the rest.

I also never said we looked like scoring in the first quarter???? As you said, perhaps you mean half? I dont know. But I did say we looked like scoring half a dozen times after United went up 2-0. Which is the truth.

In Jod's world, Liverpool are never outplayed and never get what they deserve.

Newcastle lost 5-0 to Chelsea. Liverpool however can match Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal. All 3 games could have ended in draws or even gone the other way but that's football. We are way better than last season, just yet to show it with our results, but our football is better. More attacking, less predictable, less hoof it and hope Owen scores.

To look on the positive side, we are only 4 points out of 4th spot and a champions league spot.

Not really its just that in the big 3 games this season I thought we have ben unlucky. We got outplayed by Charlton and Portsmouth but nobody takes notice of the smaller games. But when I say we were unlucky against one of the bigger clubs, everybody thinks Im too bias.

Anyway you cant say we didnt deserve a draw, we played just as well as United and had a lot more of the ball and almost socred on quite a few occasions late in the game. Heskey's slip, Murphy's miss with Silvestre's late tackle, TLT's header just over the bar, Pongolle's suspect penalty, Howards excellent save from Kewell.

We deserved a point. We didnt get it, back to the drawing board. The most important thing right now is to get into 4th and make the champions league, that could be the only way to keep Michael Owen.
