WHat a shocker against Stoke :) but we are 4th!

I expected a flat period for a while after the league cup run.

I just hope we get our team mix right. We are all over the shop!

Johnson has been terrific u know and we have missed Bellamy's zip.

Tevez is back but i dont blame him if his mind is elsewhere with a new bub!

We were poor today until we scored, and even until we nicked the second we were on the back foot. The Belletti red card and penalty was rather fortunate for us, and I think had we not gotten that we would have been equalised and then beaten.

That said, we needed a little bit of luck, and badly needed some confidence. Surely this is the win that can kick start some decent football from here on in!

That's two seasons in a row we've helped the rags by taking points off of their nearest competitor though, and that's the big minus from today!

We played a bit better in the second half but we didnt have much in the first. I hate playing only one guy up front. He gets monstered and the ball comes straight back.

I always like a 4-3-3 formation where the 3 up front put forward defensive pressure to keep the ball in the attacking half. With one guy we have nothing.

Hope this inspires some confidence. Big game next week in the grand wscheme of things. If we win we put a 6 point buffer between us and spurs IF spurs lose tonight

It was real team performance from the lads. They were all out there doing it for Wayne Bridge and everyone of them put in a shift to get the win. This formation with Bellamy and Johnson either side of Tevez is definately the way to go IMO, Bellers and Tev always seem to bring out the best in each other. Can't see how we'll be able to fit Ade into this setup when he finishes his suspension. All in all very satisfying win and we now have our destiny in our own hands with regards to 4th place, it's ours to lose.

It was definitely a better performance than other outings BUT i think the scoreline definitely flattered us.

Anyway lets hope we get some confidence and move forward. I really like Bellamy on one flank and SWP on the other. I reckon SWP is an ideal substitute so he can use his pace when defenders tire.

Ade and Tevez have the potential to be a good combination, i think as time goes on they will learn to gel. Tactically we are still fiddling around, people forget this team onyl came together this year. United and Chelsea have had a core group that have played together for years, so its gonna take time.

All in all, we are coming 4th, a pretty good effort especially since ud think that we were in a relegation battle the way everyone is talking about City...

SWP is definately better coming off the bench, Johnson has been outstanding on the wings since he joined in January and would be first choice for me. You are right though we have come a long way with this group in a year and hopefully they will get us that 4th place finish.

This really is a huge thing for the club, might not seem like much on the surface but as more details come out this will be the deal that puts in position to thrive financially, long and short term.

It's been long rumoured, but the scale of this will be enormous.

Can't wait for the detail of the plan to come to light.

Manchester City Council, New east Manchester (NEM) and Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) have today signed a formal agreement to collaborate to create a transformation plan for east Manchester, focussed on the area around the City of Manchester stadium.
A Joint Development Board (JDB) has been formed between the three parties, which will harness the respective strengths of the constituent members – Manchester City Council’s and New east Manchester’s land ownership, their proven track record in regeneration, and their access to public funding together with Manchester City Football Club’s commercial leverage with brand partners and history of investment in all aspects of the club’s development.

The agreement creates the opportunity for a long-term partnership between Manchester City Council, NEM and MCFC, to develop their mutual ambitions for the area. All of the parties share the desire for any commercial development to deliver long lasting economic and community growth to the east Manchester area.

The agreement provides the context for work which is now underway on the short term, and potential long term possibilities for the area.

In the short term, the Joint Development Board will seek to enhance the destination role of the Sportcity site and to enrich the visitor experience by the provision of superior amenities and improved surroundings. The aim is to deliver a better space for fans on match days as well as providing year round activity for residents and new visitors on non-match days, thereby truly embedding the stadium in the heart of its east Manchester community.

In the medium to longer term, the Joint Development Board will look at proposals for the commercial development of land held by the three parties and will look to capitalise on the opportunities to further regenerate east Manchester and to create a nationally significant destination.

The combined interests of the land, held by the three parties represents a total of around 200 acres, including the existing Sportcity campus and 59 acres of land in Openshaw West owned by Manchester City Football Club. The Club has confirmed that it is its intention that over time, the potential development of this land would form part of its contribution to the regeneration of east Manchester.

Manchester City Football Club has recently completed an exhaustive 14 month study of leading elite sporting facilities around the World. This due diligence will inform the Club’s decision as to what potential additional football facilities may eventually be a feature of MCFC’s contribution to the regeneration of east Manchester.

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council added, “The collective strength of the Council and the Club, two very ambitious partners, will be the engine of economic growth and will build on the regeneration work already in evidence in the area. From the securing of the Metrolink tram system to the building of world class sporting facilities in and around Sportcity, there has already been real vision in creating a sustainable future for east Manchester.

“The City of Manchester Stadium has also been a credit to the city and this further investment will enable local people who can work to work, will give our young people the best possible start in life and will make east Manchester a place in which to work, invest, live and visit.”

Simon Bate, Chair of New east Manchester Ltd comments further,

"This agreement is truly pivotal for this area. It will gives us the chance to restore economic dynamism to east Manchester, enabling businesses, local residents and football supporters alike to benefit from future investment.
“The City of Manchester Stadium and Sportcity facilities have been central to raising the profile of east Manchester and have inspired confidence and new investment here. The creation of a destination leisure opportunity in east Manchester has been a core element of our vision for the area and our ability to give real consideration to this now is truly exciting."

Talking of the agreement, Chief Executive Officer of Manchester City FC, Garry Cook said, “Manchester City has been and always will be at the heart of the community it serves in the City of Manchester. The longer term considerations for the area reflect the long term commitment of our owners to the club and the community it serves.”

Today’s agreement builds on the sports legacy from the Commonwealth Games, which gave Manchester the City of Manchester Stadium, the Velodrome and more recently the world’s first indoor BMX arena. The sporting regeneration teamed with the Metrolink expansion, new schools and the Club’s commitment to promote improvements to the quality of life for local residents has had a significantly positive impact on the area.

All parties are keen to ensure local employment and local suppliers are utilised and are committed to supporting Manchester’s low carbon city ambitions for all potential future development plans.

Manchester City Football Club is at the centre of plans, believed to be worth £1bn, to redevelop a 200-acre site around its Eastlands home.

The scheme will transform one of the poorest areas of the city and create hundreds of jobs.

The club is believed to be planning a training complex on unused land near the stadium as part of the scheme.

It will look into the viability of extending the stadium's current 48,000 capacity as part of the redevelopment.

Manchester City has signed an agreement with the city council and regeneration body New East Manchester to develop the project.

As well as developing the club's global profile, the focus will be on regenerating the area around its home.

"Manchester City has been and always will be at the heart of the community it serves in the city of Manchester," said City chief executive Garry Cook.

"The longer-term considerations for the area reflect the long term commitment of our owners to the club and the community it serves."

The first phase of the development will involve a market place-style fan zone, on Joe Mercer Way, the current approach to the stadium.

Officials signed to agree the deal on Thursday
Further plans are yet to be decided but the proposals tie in with the council's hope to create the "nationally-significant destination" earmarked for the area since the abandonment of the super-casino.

Sir Richard Leese, council leader, said the combined strength of the club and council would act as an "engine of economic growth" in the area.

"From the securing of the Metrolink tram system to the building of world class sporting facilities in and around Sportcity, there has already been real vision in creating a sustainable future for east Manchester.

"The City of Manchester Stadium has also been a credit to the city and this further investment will enable local people who can work to work, will give our young people the best possible start in life and will make east Manchester a place in which to work, invest, live and visit."

A Metrolink stop is set to be incorporated at the Sport City site - to be called Central Park - as part of the current expansion of the tram network.

Work on a £19m national BMX centre at the Sportcity site, which will also create jobs and attract visitors, is already under way.

Manchester City's £1bn plan for Eastlands
Exclusive by Deborah Linton

March 12, 2010

Manchester City is at the heart of a £1bn plan to create a world class sports and leisure complex and elevate the club into the global elite.

The massive scheme will transform one of Manchester's poorest areas and create thousands of jobs for local people.

Two-hundred acres of land around the Blues' Eastlands stadium will be redeveloped with plans for a club training base to rival AC Milan's.

The M.E.N has also learnt that an extension to the City of Manchester Stadium's north stand, which would boost capacity to 60,000, is on the cards.

The sky's the limit for City
Community leisure facilities and visitor attractions – including shops, a luxury hotel and restaurants – are also expected to feature in the scheme.

The plans are expected to attract £1billion worth of investment from private backers and Manchester City's billionaire Abu Dhabi owner, Sheikh Mansour, who took over in 2008.

The scheme is likely to provide a huge boost to the club's international profile and attendances as part of plans to build the City 'brand' around the globe.

The club has entered into a unique partnership with the city council and regeneration chiefs at New East Manchester to deliver the huge project - cementing the Sheikh's long-term commitment to the area.

The earliest stages of the development – which will be built around the City of Manchester Stadium – will see a market place-style fan zone, named City Street, created on the stadium approach in time for next season.

Work will also be carried out to 'dress up' the ground and an illuminated halo installed over the club shop.

Officials hope work on the longer term elements of the scheme - which incorporates the site of the failed supercasino bid and 59 acres of land bought by City's owners in neighbouring Openshaw West - will begin within the next five years.

Sir Richard Leese, leader of the city council, said: "The City of Manchester Stadium has been a credit to the city and this further investment will enable local people who can work, to work, will give our young people the best possible start in life and will make east Manchester a place in which to work, invest, live and visit."

A major feature is expected to be a world-class training complex similar to AC Milan's Milanello - regarded by many as the best in the world. It includes training pitches, a sports-science centre for the treatment of injured players and accommodation for youth team members.

Manchester City has spent 14 months studying the world's leading sporting facilities as part of their research.

And feasibility studies to explore how the 48,000-seater stadium can be extended to accommodate 12,000 extra fans have been carried out.

That would make it the fourth biggest ground in Britain after Wembley, Old Trafford and Arsenal's stadium, the Emirates.

Other features of the development are still open to discussion but could include community leisure facilities, restaurants, shops and a hotel.

Residents living in the area around Sportcity received notification at the start of the year that 12 months' work – costing several million pounds – will be carried out to ready the land.

A three-way agreement committing to the project has been signed by Manchester City chief executive, Garry Cook, Sir Richard, and New East Manchester chair Simon Bate.

It follows months of top secret talks and speculation among fans about the future of the land.

Sir Richard said: “A football stadium brings people in significant numbers maybe 30 days a year.

“We want a year-round destination that enhances the reputation of the city as a visitor destination and City want to build a global brand.

“Those fit well together and discussions between the council and the club have been ongoing since the owners first came to Manchester.

“The club has made it very clear that they have a long-term commitment to the area and its regeneration and part of the agreement we've signed enshrines that.

“We are very clear that we want activities on the site that create jobs for local people at a range of levels. That is absolutely essential and will contribute to the quality of life of the east Manchester community.

“The city council will also want to look at the opportunity for leisure facilities that can be used by the wider community.

“We are looking afresh at the site and treating all 200 acres as a whole. We're not looking at piecemeal development. That doesn't mean previously looked at ideas won't happen but we're effectively drawing a line under that.”

He said there had been no discussions about selling the council-owned stadium, which is rented by the club, adding: “It's not on our agenda.

“We get a very healthy rental from the stadium which supports all the other sports facilities on that site.”

Manchester City chief executive, Garry Cook, said: "Manchester City has been and always will be at the heart of the community it serves in the city of Manchester.

“The longer term considerations for the area reflect the long term commitment of our owners to the club and the community it serves."

Simon Bate, chair of New East Manchester Ltd, said: "The City of Manchester Stadium and Sportcity facilities have been central to raising the profile of east Manchester and have inspired confidence and new investment here. The creation of a destination leisure opportunity in east Manchester has been a core element of our vision for the area and our ability to give real consideration to this now is truly exciting."

Really happy to see the plans they have in place to expand Eastlands and built something to help the local community :) It is a great way to bring the fans even closer to the club and build the profile of th club around the world.

Big game against SUnderland tonight, a Spurs loss and a City win will be huge!

WOuld like to see the team build on the win at Chelsea, would like us to really ramm home the point htat we mean business this year.

Yeah, that regeneration news is huge! The place will look a billion quid when they're finished ;)

Come on City!

Oh, and Come on you whites!

What a dissapointing result this morning. Johnson was sensational in the short time he was on and he capped it off with a classy goal.

Sudnerland deserved soemthing from the game so full credit to them.

Big week coming up, 3 gmaes in one week which will make all the difference :)

Cant believe Ireland is not getting a gig. santa cruz has been really dissapointing, lets hope he can pick himself up

Yeah, yeah... I'm happy they at least got 3 pts off you again this season though!

As for Johnson. **** me! When he's on song, he's on song. So exciting to watch. Can't wait to see if we end up with Weiss in the same kind of form eventually, with both switching flanks terrorising fullbacks!

Happy with the point from the Mackems. The first half was pretty dire. I thought we were in for another performance a la blue dippers away and spuds away, but to the team's credit, they pulled together and put together a decent show in the 2nd. Jones coming off at half time and Elephant man reshaping their side and playing a tad more defensive probably played into our hands though...
