Thought we should get our own thread going.

Just reading on the Utd website that apparently we've had an 18million pound big for Diarra accepted however the player is demanding 100k pounds per week which Utd are unwilling to pay.

Seems that a crop of new midfielders may come from the following:

-Diarra
-Carrick
-Duscher
-Ribery

If RVN stays then this would help our situation out a lot since we won't have to spend a large portion of the kitty on replacing him.

I still think we need a high quality winger to go along with 2 central midfielders. We can't rely on Giggs forever and I am unconvinced Park has enough individual quality to determine outcomes of games for us.

With Heinze coming back our defense will be mean next season. A back four of Neville, Rio, Vidic/Brown Heinze should be very strong. Is it true Trabelsi is currently available on a free transfer? We were supposedly interested in him one or two seasons ago. Some good quality cover for Neville is definately needed ATM.

Yep, so lets bring in:

Carrick
Diarra
Pennant
Trabelsi

Leaving us with.....

-------------------Van der Sar-----------------------

G.Neville-------Rio--------------Vidic--------Heinze---

--------------------Diarra----------------------------

Pennant------------Scholes----------------Ronaldo---

--------------Rooney--------------------------------

-----------------------RVN--------------------------

Bench
-Carrick
-Trabelsi/Brown
-Park/Giggs
-Saha/Rossi
-backup keeper

With a good run of no injuries that team can push Chelsea for the title.

Love the ideas, but, as much as I hate to say it, we will not contend with Chelsea-noone will

Would love to get Carrick (although, i doubt that he is really worth that much), Diarra and Ribery. Our midfield would be set for the next 10 years.

Does anyone know whats going on with Dong Fang-Zhou, who we signed 2 years ago?
Also, what is the name of the young Brazilian starlet we are rumoured to be interested in...I forgot.

Line-up for next season

--------VDS--------

Neville---Vidic---Brown---Heinze

----------Ferdinand----------

Richardson-------Scholes-------Ronaldo

---Rooney---------------------------

---------------------------RVN------

Bench

Howard
Ribery
Diarra
Carrick
Saha

Giggs, Rossi, Park, Evra very unlucky to miss out.

Looking forward to the return of Spector if he comes back...

No thanks on pennant.

Why not?

I don't understand why so many don't rate him. He shone in a very poor Birmingham side season. Someone posted a stat that said he had the most effective crosses in the EPL last season. An area we have have been poor in since Beckham left. With Birmingham being relegated it's a great opportunity to get a quality player for relatively cheap (Tottenham got both Robinson and Lennon for pittens after Leeds got relegated).

The problem with Pennant isn't his talent.

It's the fact that he's a cancer and is the most unprofessional player in England.

Yep, at Arsenal he wasn't the most professional player in the squad. Since being released from Arsenal he has gone a long way in cleaning up his act. A move to Old Trafford IMO would further improve his perceived attitude and professionalism problems. If anyone can sort him out, it's SAF.

I thought it was Rafa.

Pennant is a right winger. Park and Ronaldo play their best football down the right. If we are going to bring in a winger, I would hope he is a natural down the left.

I don't think Pennant is going to bring much more to the table than Park anyway. Probably more naturally gifted, but his workrate isn't and he is a cancer. Park isn't going to send in pinpoint crosses and score goals from 25 yards every game, but I think you underestimate his impact last season.

Lol they probably both could, though they'd use different methods. Rafa would be take the best friend route, while Red Nose would take the role of grand fatherly disciplinarian. For a guy like Pennant it'd be hard to tell which would work best...

Vidic out of the WC with a minor knee injury, while the Daily Telegraph is reporting Spurs have been unable to agree terms on a new deal with Carrick and will accept a 15mill bid.

As he did with Cisse?

That's a good point... though I guess the difference is that Rafa never wanted Cisse rather he was stuck with him, whereas Rafa seems keen on signing Pennant.

I was more annoyed that he didn't seem to know which cutlery to use with which course.

You sure? I'm sure he described your chocolate souffle as the "Luke Chadwick of chocolate souffle's"

Our supposed interest in Torres is being reported everywhere. What do you guys think of Torres? Personally I think he'd represent solid value if we could get him for around the 15million pound price, this business of paying 25million can't be right. Surely.

Stories about clubs like United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan, etc wanting to buy Torres come up every transfer window, and by the time the window closes, he's still running around in an Atletico Madrid shirt.

I don't know whether it's an issue that Torres loves it at Atletico (I think he supported the club as a kid), Atletico really don't want to sell him or they've priced him too high, or the clubs that want to buy him don't rate him as highly as the media.....but whatever the reason, I can't remember any club putting in a serious bid for him.
