Re: Early Trade Week Thread

Connors and Fev + Happy hour at the Coogee Bay Hotel = ??????

Getting Connors would be awesome, getting Fev would be very good, I hate to think what may happen if we go after and get both.

Re: Early Trade Week Thread

Just having a look at Jesse White's stats for 2009, in 6 of his last 7 games he got

10d, 10m, 3g 2b
14d, 7m, 1g
9d, 8m, 1g
10d, 7m, 2g 3b
8d, 3m, 3g
14d, 8m, 4g

That's when he was only 21 years old and was playing as the number one forward. What the hell is holding him back from then? Lack of confidence? The amazing thing about those stats is the amount of marks that he was taking, he struggles to take one mark these days let alone 10. In 2009 he scored 15 goals in the last 7 games, and in 2010 he scored 22 goals in 20 games playing as the third forward. I think if he can average around 30 goals a season playing in a forward line with Sam Reid and Lewis Johnston then he is still worthy of a game. He just has to rediscover that form.

Could it be that he is suffering from the Barry Hall problem - poor eyesight that is.

Some bloke claimed to be one of Jesse's friends from high school last year and stated that White wasn't very well liked around the club nor did he love it as much as the others.

Jesse had belief in being a FF as seen by his stats from 09 so maybe he doesn’t have belief in playing as a 3rd tall, especially when the coaches must be breathing down his neck

SO maybe it’s not just White, maybe the culture, players and the staff have contributed indirectly and unintentionally towards his apparent stagnation by perhaps not allowing him to flourish into the player he wants to be but rather into the mould of what they want him to be, by taking him out of his comfort zone before he was ready to leave it cause it's hard to do something well if you don't believe in it, especially if you're playing an elite sport where belief is a precursor for success.

inb4 redcard, permaban, abuse from every Swans supporter for raising the idea that the Swans might not make every player feel warm and fuzzy inside. It is food for thought none the less though.

.

Jesse hasn't shown enough as a pure full forward to warrant him cracking the sads because he is not being allowed to play solely in that position (if, indeed, there is any truth to the comment).

Just compare the number of marking contests he gets to or the number of leads he makes compared to first year Reid, let alone the number of times he actually manages to mark the ball and it is pretty obvious why the club is trying to encourage a wider range of skills so that he can contribute in different ways.

The Armstrong thread on the Crows board is a hoot.

The consensus seems to be "Lol who?" or "This is news?" with jokes a plenty about talking up his trade value. Then when the suggestion of Sumner and a 2nd rounder is tossed up (more thn enough imo) the "He's on the cusp of our 22, we'd want more than that!" style comments come out.

Interesting bunch over there in SA.

Try the Armstrong thread on the Drafts and Trading board, its essentially the same thing, except the port supporters are throwing their lot in by saying the crows ideas of 'fair trade' are ridiculous.

Names on Sydneys trading block according tot the D&T board is Seaby (GWS), Moore (GWS), Bevan, Currie, White and Sumner.

Also, I'm thinking we need to try to draft Sam Gordon onto our list. Could play FF role for us quite easily, and be a great addition to our list. (197/90 as an 18 year old!)

I would be looking at the WA teams for trades with Jetta or TDL
Have to disagree with you there. Jetta's only weakness is his body strength. We know about his speed and his great field kicking. They're 2 qualities we're desperate for. He's talented and knows how to play footy.
TDL is class. A reliable mark and lead goal-kicker. Maybe he just needs to add more flexibility to has forward play as well as working on the defensive pressure. So not there yet, but will be invaluable as a small/mid-sized player in a forward line of Reid, Lamb, Rohan, etc.
These two are still a bit young and will develop bigger bodies and stronger game styles in the next few years. They're a bit slow to develop but that's ok, because they'll come thru with the talented group of 18-21 year olds we have now (including Tom Mitchell and then more youngsters to come in the next year or 2).

I think it would be a big mistake to underrate Jetta and TDL. They're going to be very dangerous in years to come.

He'd fit it well..
"Sam Gordon 6.5/10 – Was absolutely on fire in the first, marked everything that came his way, kicked beautifully to his team mates but his kicking at goal let him down (1.3)"

It'd be funny to get him and my suggestion: Matt Sully.
Same size players, also key position. Could have a big 18/19 year old from Warrnambool playing at both ends.

Have to disagree, jetta is timid and won't take them on. Malcolm Lynch from the Borough would be better. TDL also is timid as shown by the semi against Footscray and was clearly out of favour by the end of the year. Keep one and trade the other.

Yeah I recognise they're timid. I reckon they are that way as they're both small-bodied still. It's not out of the question that they'll stay that way, but with physical development the 'hardness' should come on. Time, and as you say, the club's judgement, will tell.

We should trade both of them but I doubt we'll get anything and Jetta just re-signed this year.

I'll never forget TDLs embarrassing attempt at a "tackle" against Essendon just before halftime.

And Jetta has more weaknesses than just "body strength", he's a terrible decision maker, an awful shot on goal, shirks contests, goes missing most of the time, but man is he quick I can't wait to watch the GF halftime sprint:rolleyes:! we used pick 14 on him, when we could've got Fyfe (Freo must've done an awesome job hiding him) or Bastinac.

We're lucky we got Reid at pick 38 to make up for it!

Could you imagine those two players in the GF played today? They have a long way to go to be part of a top 4 team, let alone a p'ship team.
