OKay we kept our picks - who gets delisted?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

The delistings will come from this list who are currently out of contract:

Webster
Walker
Browne
Haddrill
[Cook - ret.]
MCarr - apparently getting a 2 year contract

From the rookie / vets list there is:

[Parker (v) - ret.]
Macca (v)
Copping
Rumble
Smith (presumably keeping him on as a rookie for another 12 months)
Foster (elevating?)

So far the only certainties are:
  • Cook out gives us one position on the senior list.
  • Parker out gives us one position on the rookie list.

Other possibilites:
  • Elevating Foster will mean that one of the above-mentioned players can remain for 2008, as Foster will replace Cook, and we can still take the 3 mandatory draft picks at 7, 24 and 40.
  • Leaving Foster on the rookie list means we only need to delist 2 of the above mentioned players, and we can still take 3 mandatory picks at 7, 24, 40.
  • We could elevate Foster, delist all 4 players, and make 4 selections at 7, 24, 40 and 56.
  • Or, elevate Foster, delist 3 of the uncontracted players, give one of the 4 a contract for 2008, and still take selections 7, 24, 40.

  • Presuming Smith stays, and if Copping and Rumble go, we can take 3 picks in the rookie draft if Foster stays a rookie.
  • If Foster is elevated, we can take 4 picks in the rookie draft.
  • If Macca retires / is delisted we can take another pick in the rookie draft.

My personal prediction (only a guess mind you) is this:

  • Foster will be elevated.
  • Haddrill will get a one year deal. He might, however, get the boot if they decide to go for Bradley or someone in the PSD.
  • Macca will get a one year deal.
  • Webster, Walker and Browne will be delisted.
  • Copping and Rumble will be delisted.
  • Smith will be retained as a rookie.
  • We'll take 3 picks in the ND - 7, 24, 40.
  • We'll take 4 rookies in the rookie draft.

Have I told you lately that I love you??:)

Main List

Cook - r
Parker - r
Walker
Haddrill

J Lo (unfortunately he can barely walk - long term injury list

Rookie - 3 new picks

Rumble
Copping
Smith
Foster to cover J Lo on L Term list

It's a tough call, but I'd do the following:

Delist
- Walker
- Webster (very unlucky but has had many chances, isn't first choice for any position)

1 Year Deals
- Browne (close to/in best 22 if his hammys hold up)
- Hadrill (still our best fullback if fit)
- M Carr (sounds like he'll get 2yrs though???)

Leave Foster on the Rookie list on the fairly good chance that JLo won't play again next season (maybe elevate and delist browne or Hadrill if outlook is positive). If JLo does come back, there is a fair chance we may have a long term injury given Hadrill/Browne are on the list and other players getting injuries. Take our 3 picks in the main draft and 3 rookies. Would be surprised if Bradley got through to us in the PSD and quietly hoping he doesn't. If we get a Moody/McGrath in the PSD then again Browne or Hadrill goes....paper rock scissors to see who stays.

Would be dependent on the outlook for JLo though.

Does that sound reasonable?

Yeah, I probably agree more with your position than any other I've seen so far. Webster and Walker have had their chances, and I can't see any other club wanting them which is a good sign we should dump them.

Browne and Haddrill will be past the stage of no return end of next year, so if they screw this year up it's definitely easy to remove them, this year it isn't so easy.

Must be a horrible job telling these blokes they've been cut, I'm glad its not me. Just thinking though, if you're wanting to pick someone up in the PSD you'd have to delist one of Hadrill/Browne before then wouldn't you? I guess Browne and then hopefully you could pick him up again assuming no else decides to. When he's fit I really rate him though, would hate to lose him.

Yeah would be hard, especially if you had to tell a long servant such as Haddrill. I'm not sure who you would put into the PSD... possiby Haddrill because he has less potential to other clubs I think, it's harder to see how good a FB is than a midfielder.

Put Haddrill in, then if something better comes up take it, I'd rather lose him than Browne.

personally i will be devastated if browne doesnt get another chance, was lucky enough to play PSA with him and still follow his career, his GF showed the glimpses of what he can do, just people forget when u miss nearly 2 years at 22 years of age, its going to take a while to claw back...

Hate to say but i think Walker, Haddrill, Dunn, Copping, Rumble, Smith are all not going to give anything else... though with the way the contracts work and what not who knows what will happen...

Walker is sure to go IMO. Haddril, Browne, Longmuir will probably go to. I think the dockers might not bother using there 4th of 5th round picks.

Interesting the Dons are thinking of 900K + over 3 years for Brennan (seems over the odds to me). This could of been our problem if we had of not got Des.

Looks like if the cards fall - Bradley may head home for free?

If the Dons pick Brennan up in the pre-season draft, they stand to lose one of their own, Kepler Bradley, the same way.

After a deal between Fremantle and Essendon, involving Bradley and pick 55 in exchange for Fremantle's pick 40, collapsed just before the 2pm deadline Bradley's agent Colin Young suggested that the 21-year-old might still return home to Western Australia and get to the Dockers for nothing.

Young spent the afternoon with Bradley, canvassing his options, and later said he expected to talk with Essendon and Fremantle in the next 72 hours. Failed negotiations between the clubs culminated in an angry stand-off, with former Essendon player and present Fremantle coach Mark Harvey expressing his displeasure with his former colleagues.

MCMANUS! MCMANUS! MCMANUS!!!!!!

Surely he should be delisted? I don't know if he signed a new contract for one year, and can only assume because no-one else has mentioned him that maybe he has. Can someone just clarify this? I thought Harvey informally said he wanted him around next year, but no contract as yet...But that was before Bell said he would play on, hopefully Belly staying will mean McManus has to go.

I didn't rate this guy 5 years ago, let alone today in '07. Please Macca, you great clubman 'heart and soul, barometer, etc' you, put the club first and retire (or be delisted, either way is good for me)

Why delist Macca when his experience may come in handy for one more season when we're obviously be going to blood a few youngsters. Macca plays with a lot more courage and focus, regardless of his limitations (like the recently retired Cook) than quite a few players in the AFL.
You don't rate him as you say, why do you dislike him so much as a player for Freo?

in regards to collard and mourish its tough but you have to look at whats going to benefit the team more. My son was down playing at freo oval for his development games on the 6th and whilst the game was being played the freo boys were doing 3k time trials around the boundary (needless to say i don't think many ended up watching the game) it was run in 3 groups i missed the first but was told collard came last by close to a lap. mourish ran the 3rd race, smith lapped mourish crossed the line first, had time to catch his breath and then ran with mourish on his final lap. i know they are only young but you expect a certain level of fitness when you get to an AFL club. i think it would be best to look at dropping them to the rookie list because you can't see them getting a senior game befor someone else you could pick up. but yes you do run the risk of them being picked up. Its tough and i don't have the answer but food for thought....

They are on base pay, which we would have to pay anyway. We could only pick up guys with 4th/5th round picks, which are just as speculative as rookie list picks. We're better off picking up a couple of rookies, and paying rookie wages. If they are still carp at the end of next year, delist them then. Don't forget Collard has been struggling with mild OP most of the season as well, and Smith is one of the fittest guys on the list. It's all pieces of a big puzzle, and with a full pre-season hopefully these guys will improve their fitness.

Was that the 6th of this month??

If so, that is very disappointing.
