Hi All

I have mentioned before that I am part of a football history podcast, called Kick to Kick (https://player.fm/series/kick-to-kick) anyway, for the last episode we discovered a Richmond war song from 1909 and decided to record it

here is a link -

anyways, we enjoyed the process so might try and do some more, so I am after suggestions and or knowledge of other songs/poems that clubs had that we could record.

(as I also continue to search for the original Same Old's song)

Things like this COllingwood song that was written around the same time as their actual song

“The Collingwood, the Collingwood,

The Magpies famous crew.

Their style of game has won them fame,

They’ve shown what they can do.

On every ground they are renowned,

For system, style and pace.

And take my tip for the Premiership,

They’re sure to take first place.”

There was a great song my mum,a Collingwood veteran, sang, which was written at the time of the 4 premierships.I recorded it ,with accompaniment, and sent it to them.No acknowledgement from Maguire, to whom it was sent.It went to the tune of the Maine fighting song I think. It began, Drink to all the happy hearts,,shout til the rafters ring, drink and raise a toast once again, let evey loyal woodsman sing...it had verses mentioning all the players, and was a stirring chorus.Kevin Murray knows some great old Fitzroy songs about the boys from Merri Creek....shame there's no collection.

Awesome. If you wanted we could play your version on our podcast when we get up to the late 20s (currently at 1910).

A song about payments to players: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article242215972

More a chant rather than a song (but hopefully this makes an appearance in your 1914 season podcast)
"The new war-cry in use at Collingwood has a weird effect when let loose during periods of comparative quietness, such as the quarter-time intervals. To hear leading officials at it, one would think they enjoyed participating in the chant, which runs :—
'Colling, Colling, Colling,
'Wood, 'Wood, 'Wood,
We're out to win, We're out to win,
We are, We are !"

Two old songs, one not so old but 1990s. Put on youtube by one of our contributors who sadly passed away a few years ago.

Please feel free to improve or change these to produce different or better versions. Would be great to see alternative versions of particularly the very old songs.

It is great that you have done this. There is a lot of material out there.

Apart from the couple of examples I posted above we have a whole page of Carlton poetry.

As you can see there is quite a lot of it there.

If you can convert some of this into spoken verse or song it would be brilliant and we would gladly use it on the Blueseum with proper attribution.

Many thanks for this link. We regularly use your blueseum website for all the Carlton information. It is very comprehensive, well done!

I still can't believe that there is no known full version of the Brisbane Bears' second theme song used in 1993-1996. The Brisbane Lions don't have it, the AFL don't have it and if anybody does have the complete song, they haven't come forward with it.
