True point guard, Good on D and the only guy clicking offensively wise. He would look much better if guys were hitting shots.

Mills for me is the only guy taking the game on, Without him we're just looking for an open 3 which isnt happening at all.

As pointed out defense has been great, However Fernandez and two Gasols are going to trouble the US,

A Fit Bogut or a Jawai who would put down the fork once in a whole would of made a huge difference

Mills just seems to be out of form. Some of his cuts and drives were insane, but was having trouble finishing. A guy his size should be living off assists, but the lack of movement he was getting from some others obviously didn't help. I didn't catch any of the last quarter, so I don't know how well we played there, but the overall execution on offence I think was symptomatic of how lazy and impatient we were. The players weren't moving, so neither was the ball.

The US and Spain should be interesting. As far as international basketball goes, the Americans are missing probably their two most important players.

Never gonna beat Spain without Bogut. What's the deal with Jawai? He didn't commit fully or something?

Newley is pretty average. Incredible athlete, though. I remember seeing him play when he was 16-17 and thought he was going to go places.

Has never raised his game beyond that level though... peaked as a teenager and is still playing the same way now!

Re. the Aussies generally, I hate watching them trying to play 'international basketball'. It's just sooooooooooooo frustrating!

We have far more intensity in an NBL game... come up against a European or Sth American team and we get lulled into their laconic style... dribble, slash a cut and kick it out to great outside shooters. If the D attacks the shooter drop it into a 6 foot 11 gorilla in the paint for an easy 2.
Australia will never do well trying to play this way... the USA don't need to because they are just so loaded with talent.
We need to play at an insane pace and intensity to force teams like Spain etc out of their rhythm.

My prediction remains:

Gold: USA
Silver: Spain
Bronze: Lithuania
Fourth: Argentina

Lithuania looked very well drilled against the Nigerians, I think there a tiny chance to perhaps knock off the Americans if they Don't come to play. This is unlikely however.

Argentina looked old and tired against France. Typical aging champion team. I don't think they'll be in the running for the medals. Lithuanians will live or die by their outside shooting in the medal rounds. Russia is a smokey. They can be flaky but they have Kirilenko and Blatt coaching them so they might be a factor. I really like France for the bronze though. Their frontcourt, even without Noah, should swallow up Kirilenko just like they did Scola last night. France were about 3.1 to beat Argentina last night, very juicy odds. Lithuania-France match is a difficult one to predict, though.

My prediction:
1. USA
2. Spain
3. France
4. Russia

I'm pretty sure France knocked them off at the Eurobasket championships last year (Lithuania). I wouldn't be surprised if Australia knocked of Russia.

For some reason I got a good feeling about France, they seem a more complete team in terms of versatility than Spain... If Tony Parker starta firing and young Kevin Seraphin does good playing on the block as spark off the bench, then they will be tough to match up on! And lets not forget the abilities of Boris Diaw either, can play multiple positions whch will be valueable for the Frenchies!

Unfortunate one of Boris' abilities is eating :D

Speaking of which, he and Turiaf own a restaurant .... http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2012/07/29/the-boris-burger-diary-of-the-uncredentialed-edition-iii/

I heard Lauren Jackson now has the most points scored in Olympic womens basketball history after the game against Brazil. She is a legend.

lets hope they can make the gold medal game, she deserves it. i was at the final in sydney when i think she was 19 , got belted from pilar to post but nearly got the gold for australia. we had a great team then but other than jacko rest of team played their poorest game of tournament.
she deserves a gold.
