The facts are chiltern are a better club than corowa at the moment.

Better junior set-up, locals play there for loyalty and they can recruit.

you can't have a club play ovens and murray that would be a run of the mill Tallangatta or ovens and king side. The cluster need to merge into two clubs, one in the minor league, one in the major league, and help each other, otherwise there will be no sides left in the cluster

The model is already there Trent - geelong west is a merge of 2 geelong west sides - one from the gfl (the remnants of the old vfa side which brought the top class ground) and the gdfl side

Article in the Border Mail about Dayne Beams signing with Mulwala. It says he had also had talks with Corowa so not fair to say they aren’t having a crack.

Beams is done as a player, wouldn’t even be in the leagues top 50 players, It’s more about Corowa’s inability to land a name. But as Fruit stated, they are having a crack, they just need a bloke who can really sell the place to potential recruits. I’d say the conversations are underwhelming, you need to inspire people to believe in what’s on the horizon. Rovers have held on to some young ones because the kids can smell what’s brewing and they want a taste of it.

shouldnt it be an easy sell, be a part of turning the club around, making finals coming back from a year of exodus, would be just as rewarding as humping on a flag favourite to win a flag, be a part of country footy history, i can assure you if this years succesful for corowa, people will be talking about in 20 years, more than who won the flag

I think some of you old blokes are living in the past expecting young blokes to think about future history? I’ll bet none of you thought 30 years in advance when you signed up, you just wanted to play footy didn’t you?
Have to agree here, some of the new recruits couldn’t give a damn about the jumper or the clubs proud past. These type of blokes generally aren’t involved in team success or around long enough to get their family name inked on the board. They also need their tyres pumped up regularly to get them to perform. I’m fed up with it to be honest, putting inflated prices on their heads for no return.

Lets see if the guys who have signed with Corowa on massive $$$$ are there for more than half a year / year at most. I would think not and if thats the case these blokes shouldnt be allowed to be cleard to another club for 12 months , make them sit out of footy as they are they ones that stuff clubs up.

What is a win for Corowa in 2024? What’s the pass mark? What would Owen be satisfied with come September? The players need to sign 2-3 year deals and be held to it. It’s amazing what landing one big recruit can do, Raiders owe a lot to Ellis Yolemen, the club would be spent with out landing that signature. And credit to him and the Raiders, he seems to have stuck around for the ride.

Scrape a win, some netball success on the court and survive the first year back. Retain 90% of current list for 2025 and recruit a few more and grow it.

They need to field all 3 grades of footy, with one grade play finals, all netball sides fielded with 2 in finals as a pass, with the seniors must win 2 games

That would mean they’ve been more successful or just as good as Hoppers, Myrt and Raiders the last two seasons. Except, Hoppers have bounced up this season. But, without looking, they’ve been shite since Aker coached them in 2016.
Based on that, think we need to be more realistic.
The favourites have been coming for 30 years now, they aren’t easy to win.

I don’t know how you can keep a straight face after saying you’d be able to get Corowa entrenched in the finals in year one and a premiership in the third year.

Have they contacted you?

He was spot on with this. You look at what happened at Glenrowan, they’d just hit their darkest hour. But the right men got involved and demanded change, brought in some heavy hitters, elite business men, profile recruits, open minded no nonsense coaches, breathed some life back in to the club, put the O&K league back on the map. But sadly, at the end of the day the town weren’t interested in supporting the club, businesses didn’t want to buy in, and no one wanted to take the baton. Corowa’s similar in the sense it’s really a one horse town, there’s flickers of potential there, just need the right minds collaborating. Id love to take a handle on that place, I could get them entrenched in the five with in 12 months and a premiership with in three years.

Trent the flight Steward

Put it in a bag, mark it HORSE MANURE and sell it at the front gate for $2 a bag.

You catch the news that Beams opted for Mulwala over Corowa to honour his father? That’s the reason why recruiting people who give a shit about the history of your club is important. That’s where loyalty starts, Rovers are riddled with men honouring their family’s name.

No Corowa haven’t contacted me, however a close associate asked me for some advice a while back, I gave a piece of my mind which ended in a heated exchange. I also recommended some blokes to call, they never received a call, I’ll play my part by spending some money in town over Easter.

In an ideal world, yes but unfortunately, some won't trust the club with it having recently failed to field a side.
First year back was always likely to be the hardest but hopefully they're able to build some momentum that sees them really reestablish themselves.

Mergers are needed but AFLNEB, the O&MFNL, the TDFL and the OKFNL, etc. cannot force shotgun weddings between unwilling clubs. The clubs have to have the brains to realise that giving some ground and creating a stronger club in the district is for the benefit of the community and to keep their club's heritage and legacy going.

In this scenario, all three clubs are no doubt waiting for the others to keel over so that they will "win" and keep on going and not have to concede anything in the process. That is utter stupidity. Are people from Wahgunyah likely to support, play for or sponsor a rival cluster club once they have gone? Maybe not. Their resentment to what is left would mean they are probably more likely to look towards a Howlong, a CDHBU or a Chiltern instead so that they can start fresh.

Most people can see three clubs do not fit into this jigsaw, but most of the ones who do seem to be on the committee of one of the three clubs.

Ross Oakley can tell you first-hand how unsuccessful it was to try and facilitate forced mergers - Fitzroy-Footscray, Melbourne-Hawthorn, etc.
Ross Oakley can choke on a fat one.

In all honesty, if either of the three clubs can’t see that three teams in a catchment area of 12,000 is unsustainable they all will likely go the way of the dodo as sad as it is to say.
