1-Melb- Jack Watts- is he genuine key forward height? Tick. Is he Victorian? Tick. Does he have good overhead marking? Tick. Can he run fast and jump high? Tick Tick. Is he a level-headed young man? Tick. These are the questions and subsequent answers that Melbourne recruiters will be asking. Lock him in. Headline: 'Jack of all trades'

2-WCE- Daniel Rich- The rumour spread last year that they were very keen on Masten. Funnily enough Masten was picked up. I think the same will happen here. Why Rich over Naitanui? I think West Coast will see a lot of Daniel Kerr in Daniel Rich and the superstar that Kerr is will make the decision easy. Headline: 'Rich pickings'

3-Freo- Nicholas Naitanui- West Coast have gone safe with Rich and Fremantle will lick their chops with the opportunity to upstage their rival such is the potential of Naitanui. He will be a good player, his tackling is under-rated, his sprinting is amazing and has been shadowed by Watts amazing time at the draft camp. There is not so much to report about why they are picking him..they will just pick up whoever of the big 3 falls to them. Stephen Hill will not be considered. Headline: 'Dockers anchor in Fiji'

4-Port- Tyrone Vickory-He providesa great contest for a ruckmen and gets into all the right spots. He can also go forward and provide a good target. He has the frame to allow him to end up a very big-bodied ruckman and is agile, good tackler and good marker of the ball. Ticks all the boxes. Headline: 'Hickery Vickory Dock'.

5-Ess-Ziebell- He is the next best available, and with a pick 5 you dont go picking on needs like a Hurley would be doing. Ziebell was considered a number pick at one early stage and you can see why. He has great skills, a big frame for a midfielder and leadership skills. Headline: 'Knights under Ziebell spell'

6-Carlton- I think they will pick up Hurley as he might be there last chance to pick up a decent key back before a) the GC17 team comes in and b) they start getting better. I think they have failed miserably in the past with the selection of key backs so the fact that he is 2 time under 18 AA is great reassurance for them. Headline 'Carlton: Hurley early'

7-Bris- Yarran looks lazy and Voss would hate that so I think they will go for Hamish Hartlett who in my opinion has slipped. He is a silky smooth operater that reminds me alot of Ryan Griffen. Voss was well known for his hardness and will be able to add this to Hartletts game. one of the best kicks in the draft.

8-Rich- Will not go for key forwards as I believe with Morton and Hughes coming through that is suffice. They looks like great young players. Midfielders will be the go in my opinion and with a top 10 pick they will hoping for a big bodied midfielder(not a tambling or shane edwards type). This will rule Hill out. I think this is where Tom Swift will come in. He has grown to 192cm and will be a taller midfield type. A big risk, and probably a risk that they shouldnt be taking considering where their club is at but I think they will try and make up for the horrible Oakley-Nicholls mistake. 'Tigers pounce swiftly'

9-Nth- Stephen Hill: They cant believe Hill has fallen but his disposal around the ground lacks signiificantly. But with Harvey and Simpson getting on they will go for some fresh legs..and athletic fresh legs he has. I think with Lachlan Hansen getting better, and Petrie coming to fruition and Hale showing his worth up forward then they dont need a key position as much as people may suggest. Headline: "Laidley- 'We couldn't get over the Hill"

10-Adel- Lewis Johnston: This pick is perfect for the crows and I think other clubs know this. He is a good key position forward. It would be nice if he was taller but with Tippett taking the attention of the tall key defenders Johnston would cause much trouble with his great all round skills.

11-Pies- Sam Blease: They tried taking stocky midfielders before(stanley) but their main success has come from their skinnier players in thomas and pendlebury, admittedly high draft picks though. Nevertheless they will be the first club to not be scared off by this kid that needs to murder a protein bucket a week for the next 2 years in order to get his body upto afl standards. He suits this game with his hard and straightline running as well as clean hands. He actually has a bit of Heath Shaw in him I think. Headline: 'Yes Blease'

12-Syd- Jackson Trengove: He has slipped somewhat probably due to his injury troubles but I think this is about where he will go. A mid to late first rounder. They have not had much luck with tall fellars, namely Doyle, Ericsen and trading for everitt but they have never had any really early picks so they wont be afraid to go for him. I think Barlow could be handy as a tall wingman and Trengove could be used down back. Trengove should then also be used to ruck in the backline while Jolly patrols the area a kick behind play to make it hard for the opposition to clear their defensive 50. Looks a great player and a player Roos would personally enjoy developing.

13-Stk- Yarran: They could handle Gherig urinating on women and if they are interested in taking Cousins than there is no reason that Yarran's calm and laid back attitude would ironically turn off the saints. Milne is good but is getting on and with Riewoldt kicking so many behinds Yarran would be good to make the score card look a bit more respectable. Yarran is not a clone of Shaun Burgoyne as some say because he does not have anywhere near the pace of Burgoyne. I would say he is more a david wirrpanda when used up forward.

14-WB- Ayce Cordy-F/S H3eadline: "A.Cordy to plan"

15-Cats- Their man swift has gone but I believe they will swoop on Ash Smith. I think this kid will be a bolter. He is the fastest kid ever drafted and has one of the best kicks in the draft. Those two combinations are deadly..and geelong loved having Brent Moloney when he was down at the cattery and here is their chance to re-draft him. some long kicking, quick midfielders to compliment the likes of Bartel, Corey, Ling and Chapman(who aren't known for their speed) would be on thompsons mind. A beautiful long kick of the ball would suit geelong in years to come when Hawkins is up and ready. Smiths long kicking would set up many 1 on 1 Hawkins contests making it next to impossible to stop. Perfect choice.

16-Hawks- Nick Suban: Hawthorn dont pick players that can't kick so this eliminates the likes of cornelious, klemke, heyne etc. He is a left footer i believe so he would add to their array of left footers which has proven to work for them. He could take campbell browns position down back, who would take riolis position up forward who will move up more into the midfield in future years. I think campbell brown is better up forward with his tackling pressure and he showed in the grand final that he can impact the scorers with his goal kicking. --------------------------------------------------------------
17-Melb- Shaun Mckernan: We have barely any key position players and I cant wait for Mckernan to send Brad Miller back to the 2's where he will hopefully never return. Mckernan would be a good lead up target and provide a good duo with Watts. I think Bailey will see that having 2 key forwards working in tandem can work wonders (buddy and roughead) and Mckernan will has the body and frame to turn into a monster.

18-WCE- Michael Walters: He is the obvious pick for a reason. He has good skills and is from WA. My only concern is that Masten, Rich and Walters is a very small trio of kids considerng the height of midfielders is increasing by the year. Walters plays a little like Jetta from Essendon and funnily enough is taken at exactly the same place in the draft.
---------------------------------------------------------------
19-Melb- James Strauss- 6'1 defender/midfielder that is likely to grow more. He has elite kicking skills and something that Melbourne desperately need considering how much Morton and Buckley butcher the ball currently. I think this seems like an obvious pick for the demons and as seen in the championships Strauss and Watts linked up several times throughout the carnival.

20-WCE- Schoenmakers: Picked up 2 midfielders in this draft already and I think that they will go for a taller player here. They already have a few types like Schoenmakers in Hansen and Staker but Schoenmakers seems better in running capacity and footskills and overhead marking. Not many people have him going to the Eagles but I think he would do well there and be the fortunate one to be on the end of Richs sizzling 55m kicks.

LOL all of a sudden all the experts on bigfooty a rating Hill...LOL!...just another same old mock draft...

BTW Yarran WILL go top 10 and Sidebottem top 15!

Not a bad Effort - love the Headlines

Good to see somebody giving us Rich too, Shoenmakers bit small but I do like him. still think 18/20 is a bit early for Walters but everybody else seems to be happy with it.

Morton as a key Fwd?
Next time check all clubs lists

Yes it is slightly unique in that I have Sidebottom sliding dramatically. Is he a pure midfielder or a pure forward? None, he is a mix. He reminds me alot of Corey Jones up forward that could play in the middle at times. I think I would prefer with a first round pick to pick a pure player as I think versatility is over-rated. I would rather have 1 position mastered as you're only ever playing 1 position on the ground at a time

Good mock...just think you've forgotten Sidebottom in there. I think if he can slip out of the top 10 Collingwood should take him. But Hine is hard to predict.

I can see us taking someone with more X factor like a Blease or Swift if he drops.

good effort mate. the headlines are what made it for me.

hard to please people right... on one hand youve got people saying boring, the same as everything else. and on the other hand youve got people saying thats never going to happen, sidebottom will never slide that far... geez people make up your mind

it annoys me when people will have a crack at someone for trying something different. i.e someone bolting up the list, or a sidebottom sliding ect... then have a go at people because their mocks are the same as everyone else. e.g watts, rich, nicnat, vickery, hurley..... ect. you cant have it all people

good on you for having a go.

"Blease Please" and Hurely going to carlton were my highlights from this post.

i should ask for money! lol, no doubt somewhere along the line a club will use the 'yes blease' headline :D

Good to someone not have us picking Hurley. :thumbsu:

I too wonder if you will take Hurley. Everyone is saying get defenders...but isnt that what you did last year? Fletcher will play another year, so you have cover.

I see the most pressing issues for Essendon are a gun midfielder with X factor and great skills and forwards post the Lloyd/Lucas era. It is early days, but i have doubts over Neagle and it is starting to get very worrying for Gumbleton.

All valid points Dave, although I think that Gumby and Neagle will turn out fine. I agree that we need a classy midfielder, although we should be looking for a defender with our second pick as Daniher and Pears etc. have not yet proven themselves.
