Plus 1 if it's going to be like this with boring interviews. I'd rather he spend an hour with recently retired players who have played in premierships etc. Get a real insight into the goings on at clubs.

I'd say its pretty unpredicatable to know if an interview is going to be in-depth and revealing before hand (especially with the lesser well-known guests). Mike poses questions and the guest can either open up and reveal some insight or give the more conservative answer.

Interviews with guys like Baker aren't TV personalities, which he admitted to by saying he avoided the media in his playing days.

This thread seems like a little bit of an over-reaction to one crappy episode in a row - I thought the Bomber one last week was pretty damn good.

I could imagine that would have been a dull interview with anyone who didnt remember Leon Baker.

But really, football was only positive in his life and he spoke well so not really his fault at all.

Seemed quite a likeable guy who just didn't have the controversy in his career that we want the details on.

the problem with that is you get the "oh yeah he was a nice guy... nah never had a problem with him just a disagreement.. top guy really"

then 5 years later you find out they hated each others guts.

I think the formula should either be 1) well known or 2) interesting. One or the other is ok. The best ones have been like Capper, Hawkins, Sam K etc. the last one was niether.

When looking at them over Youtube to play and episode in the background, Silvagni and Pert were the ones I wouldnt give a thought to playing.

Tried Pert for a few minutes.

Went to next vid because of how boring it was gonna be.

I'd like to see Michael Tuck on there, games record holder and the 70's / 80's era of domination of Hawthorn that he played through with Jeans as coach and personalities like Brereton, Dipper etc, etc.

I'd also like to see Michael Roach. Star full forward and played through the demise of the Richmond Football Club and ended up at full back.

Some of the more obscure players like Phillip Pinnell, Ray Biffin and David McMahon would also be good.

Oh, and Steve McCann who'd talk about the Barassi spray among other things.

Would have been a good life, travelling around the country in a Kombi playing footy for a bit of cash to keep you going.

Leon Baker is a top class chap, as I ran into him a fair bit in those early 80's.

He was always good for a chinwag, but thought there was more to life than professional footy.

Worked hard during the winter months, trained & played hard footy, then had summer off. Smart chap if you think about it.

Todd Viney up next. Melbourne and Neeld over the last few years will be interesting.
It could be good, but I reckon he'll be all diplomatic and on the fence, won't want to ruffle any feathers or upset anyone, so we won't get much out of it.

Viney has a pretty interesting story to tell though - is my memory failing me, or did he retire a little early to be part of Mark Phillipousis' coaching/fitness team? (I could have him completely confused with another Melbourne player at the time...)

He did coach him but I'm not sure if he retired early to do so

Great player and a bit of a free spirit. Should be fascinating.

Two premierships with Swan Districts under John Todd and two with The Bombers under Sheedy.

Can see how this plays out.

Mike - " You started playing in the VFL in 1984 at the age of 28. Why did you take up footy at such a late age ? "

Post of the year!
