Hawthorn is now is possesion of #7, which is good news for us, IMO.

They have traded #10 and #37 to Collingwood for Bo Nixon and #7. Seems strange but I can only assume the Pies did it as they wanted to grab Morrison from the Eagles, but didn't want to give up a second rounder.

Hawthorn will, hopefully, go for a ruckman with #7, probably Wood, leaving Angus Monfries free to be picked up by the mighty Adelaide Crows.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssss. :)

Hopefully we can take a ruckman, like Maric, a youngster who has a basketball background. footydraft.com currently has us picking him at #24, and then we should be able to grab a decent midfielder with #28.

I know its a while away, but I'm looking forward to being able to say;

Welcome Angus. :)

I must admit I had a big grin on my face when I heard Collingwood trade pick 7 to Hawthorn. Hawks will pick midfielder, KPP and a ruckman with their picks 2, 5 and 7 and not neccessarily in that order.

Lets just say I feel more comfortable now that Collingwood don't have a pick before us. I know that we will either take Wood or Monfries with our pick 7. At this stage it looks like Monfries and I would be stoked with that selection:)

I reckon that Croatian lad from Calder Cannons would be a good gamble for a ruckman with one of our 2nd round picks. Only played footy for 2 years and lets hope he can develop like Dean Brogan:)

There also could be a smokie ruckman from the left field in similar fashion to big Will Minson a couple of years ago. I won't name the lad but he is local and is 200 cm. I know we have kept a very close eye on him and I get the feeling he could be one out of the left field. He can also play CHF.

1. I think we should go with Monfries, as I simply think he is better than Wood - I don't even think Wood is the best ruckman in the draft.

2. Absolutely, I was thinking the exact same thing re: Brogan. And Maric will/should be able to improve a heap, considering his relative inexperience to Aussie Rules.

3. Sounds awsome. If he is anything like big Will I 'will' (pun intended) be rapt. If he is 200cm lets put him in the ruck though, Fergie is our CHF.

If we can come out of this draft trading period losing only Stinger, and having picked up Thompson, Monfries, Maric, a midfield prospect at #28 and hopefully a couple of good late smokies, I'd be absolutely rapt. Not Hawthorn-esque in terms of high picks, but still very good.

With all the talk of interstate kids wanting to return home would any Victorian club be frightened off drafting Ryan (that South Adelaide kid, name escapes me at the moment). If so, the AFC would take him over Angus Monfries wouldn’t they? With pick 8

I think the chances of Ryan Griffen slipping to pick 8 are non-existant. He will go top 3 or 4 no doubt.

If he was there with pick 8 we would get him before Monfries no doubt. I think even Monfries is a chance of being taken before pick 8 :(

Let's hope it goes this way - Angus being available at pick 8.

Still not sure what the Magpies were doing with that Bo Nixon trade, they must rate Chad Morrison.

I think they've got someone like T.Johnstone in mind in the PSD.

Maybe they overpaid the Hawks for a verbal agreement not to take TJ and took a punt the other teams wouldn't be able to afford his asking price ?

Thanks for the players name in fall Stiffy_18.

At least this year we have a good chace at picking one of these potential guns up. The last few years have been very frustrating that we have just watched them slip through out fingers.

We are back in the game this year.

With pick 8 and two in the mid 30’s we will pick up 1 maybe 2 players who can step into the side next season. Draft right and it could turn into all 3 playing some AFL football next season.

Footydraft has us taking danny meyer at pick 8. IMO he is probably around pick 15. I would rather take lewis now rated 20 at footydraft then meyer. If monfries is still available i would take him.

Bo Nixon is a battler and I reckon the deal that Magpies did was pretty good actually. Morrison is a good player and Magpies also keep pick in the top 10 just slipping down 3 spots.

Morrison would be on reasonable money. I wouldn't mind giving Johnstone's manager a call to see if he would be interested of coming to Adelaide in the PSD. He is an enigma but he still holds pretty good trade value. He would be worth it just to trade him back to victoria next year for 1st round pick:p

His off-field problems might be off-putting to us.

I think its unrealistic to expect any of the draftees to play AFL footy next year. Angus Monfries might get a couple of games later in the year but I don't expect to see them playing AFL footy next year. If we do pick up a young ruckman I expect him to spend the first year in SANFL reserves.

I never said he was as good as big Will but I said the situation is a bit similar in that he could come out of left field. Both were not invited to draft camp but both have been invited to State screening sessions.

This lad's 2nd half of the year in under 19s has been very good. He even kicked 5 goals in one of the finals.

I think RooDog might know who I am talking about ;):p

Don't say a thing, Stiffy.

I don't want any other club taking our roughies, especially Port. ;)

Let's keep it quiet on the West(ern) Lakes front.

I suspect Monfries will be available at 8 as I am sure Hawthorn will use one of their picks for a ruckman. From what I have read and seen I suspect Deluca is the best ruckman in the draft so you might find that Wood and Monfries are both available to Adelaide at pick 8.

The one area that has hurt us more than any other over the last few years is full back. While we do have some potential key talls that might offer a solution we do lack depth in that position and if we get an injury or one of them does not make the grade we have very few alternaitves.

We do have quite a few midfielders and our best should continue to play for at least three years. We also have a few options in Reilly, Bode, Johncock, Shirley, etc that could be addedd to the midfield as needed but we do not have that flexibility in key defenders.
As a result I believe Adelaide should select a key position player and just maybe someone like Roughhead might still be available if Hawthorn goes for two onballers and one ruckman and the Bulldogs go for a midfielder and a ruckman. If not Willits or Kikby offer players who can play the key positions both forward and back.

Tell us more.

I must admit I haven't seen him play but I am told that the kid is 200 cm. Plays ruck and CHF and has been playing U19 and even cracked it for 1 league game.

Tell us a bit more about him without mentioning the name:)

What, Brad DeVries?
