Hawthorn is now is possesion of #7, which is good news for us, IMO.

They have traded #10 and #37 to Collingwood for Bo Nixon and #7. Seems strange but I can only assume the Pies did it as they wanted to grab Morrison from the Eagles, but didn't want to give up a second rounder.

Hawthorn will, hopefully, go for a ruckman with #7, probably Wood, leaving Angus Monfries free to be picked up by the mighty Adelaide Crows.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssss.

Hopefully we can take a ruckman, like Maric, a youngster who has a basketball background. footydraft.com currently has us picking him at #24, and then we should be able to grab a decent midfielder with #28.

I know its a while away, but I'm looking forward to being able to say;

Welcome Angus.
Excellent news :D

He will come in very very handy. Cant wait.

Ive just realised that I know one of the guys in the draft- Chad Gibson. Lives down the road from me and I can remember having water fights with him when I was 12. :o

A guy at my work is now best mates with him and has said that Chad is pretty sure the crows will take him in the draft.

How very interesting! :D

I would not be unhappy if we took him - big, agressive, just what we need with one of our second round choices.

Undersized for a ruckman. We need to pick up 3 midfielders and 2 ruckmen. Chad is only 194 cm, he would be a KPP not a ruckman.
Not in favour of casting a wide net to get a ruckmen.

IMO 2 midfielders,2 KPP, and 1 ruckmen + rookie list another ruckman - giving us 5 ruchmen on our list, thats enough.

Listening to Craig the other day, it would appear KPP are not on the agenda this year. He is super keen to get midfielders and ruckman or 2 on the list.

I'm

In a year where there are many tall KPP of fairly even ability we don't want any????

In a year of not many classy midfielders, we want them.

Are we dyslexic or something

Still say if the best available is a KPP take him, but I agree our preference should be to get midfielders. Ruckmen, well if we miss out on the top3 or Meric, I say rookie list or take only one with a late pick.

They really are a gamble, and we can't afford to be giving draft picks away on a gamble.

Weaver:
In normal circumstances you have to go early to get a key position player or risk missing out. This year I think things are a little bit topsy-turvy. I think there is a lack of quality midfielders, particularly quick ones and very few of the midfielders really are goal kickers.

On the other hand there are literally 20 fairly similar key position types who are all very even and not real stand-outs. There will be little difference between a key position guy at 22 and one at 52. Every chance that some of the guys who fall through to the rookie list will outperform some of the KP guys taken in the 30s.

For me that will be the most interesting thing in this draft when we look back on it in 3-4 years time.

As I said is Adelaide getting their requirements and years mixed up?

Given we need players of all types we should be taking the best available talent with our 1st 3 picks at least. We can even up the balance of the squad with later picks & rookies. We should add at least 1 more ruckman on our rookie list (assuming we pick 1 up in the draft).

:) Can't disagree, although the draft after 6 being so even, maybe you can drafta bit more to your needs than normal.

That to me suggests getting a midfielder with our first choice is a good move. Because with our second and third picks, both in the 20's we can still pick up some solid talls, while at the same stage the pool of midfielders will be getting thin.

I was flicking through the local messenger recently and came accross a mock draft. The comment on Chad was that he is very, very aggressive. Unfortunatley, they had him being picked up by Port with pick 11. Sounds like just the sort of player we need.

At least we have Scott Stevens...

The question mark with Chad is his ability to go from playing ruck (too short) to playing KPP (question over his agility)

But his bio is impressive, and I love agressive players.

Bet Chad Gibson doesn't run like a phag.
