2014 - Jaksch.
2015 - Patton, Boyd, Dixon, Tomlinson, Cameron.
2016 - Lynch, Day (as of yesterday apparently. The other hit I got for his contract info is hilarious).

The cupboard really is bare for out of contract key forward options. Maybe Ben Reid will have a fall out with Buckley? Jaksch might be attainable with his injury problems and GWS's overstuffed KP stocks. Haven't really seen much of him but would certainly be an upgrade on our current stocks though. Do you rate Jaksch at all, dlanod? Could he be a number one forward?

I'm split on Jaksch. He's looked like he could have the goods, but I'm really nervous about throwing assets after unproven forwards. He's got the physique and played well in his game last year, so has the potential to be a #1 KPF. If we could get him for a pick after 18ish I'd jump at it.

The fact is we wont have a forward this year. Even next year the good young ones are still under contract. We need to draft a gun KPF this year as l, IMO, cant see us getting for for a trade.

Yep, seems decidedly unfair that we don't have a key forward at the top of their game as a lot of clubs do, let alone two and three as a lot of clubs do, and it is looking even less likely that we'll be able to attract one in the near future either. Still so pissed we missed out on Hogan to Melbourne a couple of years back. He was the one guy that we so desperately needed and were just so close to landing that it just stinks that Melbourne were even allowed to claim him on the back of the tanking allegations.

Just goes to show how fortunate we were back in the day with three forwards capable of playing the key role in Lynch, Bradshaw and Brown. And that's not even mentioning guys like White, Pike and Notting that could pinch hit and play tall when needed.

I really do miss seeing White in the forward line. Dat leap.

We obviously need another KPF. Patton and Jaksch are the two obvious ones to have a go at. Otherwise bringing in some quality home grown talent would be a good idea. David Armitage is the first one who springs to mind for me

This Jaksch guy. I havent heard of him, is he any good? Compared to Patton, Lynch etc?

Here's my rundown from earlier in the thread:

I'd definitely rate Patton better. It would be interesting to see Jaksch with as much senior game time as Lynch - Lynch's had quite a few games now, and it's definitely showing in his ability on the field.

I'm not so concerned. I think we already have the KPF's we need in Freeman and Close. Both of these guys turn 20 this year, but have shown enough potential in limited opportunities that they can develop further. We may have to take some pain (pun intended) and play these guys in the seniors to fast-track their development, but they are of the right size and mobility to play the modern type of KPF.

From what Brown has said (or more specifically not said), I get the impression that he would like to play on next year, but it will all rest on how he goes this year. It would be ideal for him to stick around that long to mentor these two blokes.

The real pain will be reading another 100 page thread only to be disappointed at the end when we miss out again.

I think we'll know by the end of the year whether Close has the potential at least, assuming he stays healthy. I feel Freeman is more of a long term project - we may not know about him for another couple of years.

I had a look at game stats for guys like Franklin, Roughead & (Jack) Riewoldt. Common to all was that they spent the first couple of years getting a few games into them (30+) and getting returns of only about a goal a game, before hitting their straps in their third or fourth season. They were all about 20/21 years old when this occurred. I reckon that if Close and Freeman are going to make it we need to start getting some senior games into them now.

I think Archie could be a weapon. Think about this he is very quick off the mark, awsome vertical leap cant kick so if you teach him to kick it will be the robot repeatable variety. It is not as silly as it seams.

I feel like we shouldn't be chasing players that are going to create a bidding war (such as Patton). For the price of Patton we could get good value out of Ben Reid and Frawley who both are KPP sized and can take marks. Reid can play CHF well and Frawley is quality, allowing one of our big backs forward or even himself.

Thoughts people?

We all love Browny but no way should he play on next year. Free the cap space and get a less restricted big man.
