Deary me. How this thread has fired off indeed.

Normally I don't have much of a problem with the residents of Bay13. It is an area of BigFooty where the rules are relaxed a little to allow for some club to club banter. Thus, heated exchanges are abound and expected - but am I offended by them? Not one bit, because I know it is just rib poking. If some of them intend to be serious, I just laugh it off and give off a reply detailing the errors, mixing in a few barbs too. Or just ignore it if they are trying too hard. Yeah, a few posters are obsessed with us - I guess they live off our negative reaction because they have a grudge against us. If a few select people want to make a fool out of themselves by obsessing themselves with us and getting a few key points wrong, more power to them. That way people won't take them so seriously when discussions that matter take place (or rather, that mean anything).

The tanking talk for example is quite an empty one. Poster A will accuse team A of it, but when asked for proof, will either sneak away, change the topic or just post a repeated assumption. Even answer the question with a question (this is how the pros do it, but only if it works as intended). That opposition supporters bitch about us makes the place more lively, more interesting... and I wouldn't expect it any other way. The only problem I have with this is if they start getting personal about it because they're frustrated that their getting fired back on. Or bitch about getting carded because they said something inflammatory on our board, knowing full well of the club board rules that are in place... then have the audacity to bitch about us bitching. Heh. I love hypocrisies like that, only because they're funny.

Think of it this way - at least we're still relevant. Rather be hated and trolled at will than not acknowledged and completely ignored. But that's pretty much impossible here on BF, isn't it?

To be fair to ODN, who I do hang a lot of crap on, we have history and for that I suspect he's tolerant provided I don't clearly cross any lines. Probably coming a bit close in this thread but I suspect he'd probably have this discussion here than in the middle of some other thread.

TBH I wish he'd spend more time on the American Football board so I can hang shit on him for being a Cowboy's fan.

You really are coming up short when it comes to comprehending things JD.

This thread is not a woe is us thread. It recognises that things have progressed to the point that there can be no serious discussion relating to Carlton on any of the boards outside of this one as there are far too many simple minded folk who fail to discuss and rely on droll sledges. I'm not complaining about it, I am used to it to the point where I take stabs at guessing when it will begin when I see a thread relating to Carlton. It is so predictable it is highly amusing for the most part.

This thread is me (us) having a little fun with it. Highlighting those that don't have the skill to discuss without having their digs, and those that seem to have an unnatural focus on one opposition team over another. Perhaps even having a laugh at their attempts.

You on the other hand have decided that the thread is about you, when there are numerous other posters mentioned. The thread only started to focus on you as you felt the need to keep commenting in it, thus drawing attention. Didn't you advise that maybe our posters should be ignoring those that make comments about the club?

I'm not sure that anybody's perception of you as being obsessed can be considered personally derogatory as obsession isn't always a negative or a weak state of being.

The 'H' word could be many things around this place .... Hypocrite, Internet Hero ..... Horse's Arse ..... all depends on one's perspective.

I notice spelling errors all the time on BF, but don`t correct people on them as it is the argument of the weak. And I know I will make mistakes myself from time to time.

I would ask Carlton posters if they agree with me on this

I gather you are referring to the `hypocrisy` correction? Look at the context, it is what I am doing here - showing someone trying to win an argument by pointing out a spelling error when they make spelling mistakes themselves. Otherwise I wouldn`t have even said a word.

It just backs up my point - don`t correct others on their spelling (or grammar for that matter) when you make errors yourself. It quite rightly makes you look two-faced.

You have complained about MS posting and the thread title. Basically in a thread where you have called us precious, you have been acting more precious than anybody.

Christ you just have to look at the obsession Carlton supporters have with me (yeah, yeah, pot/kette/etc). I have been trolled by Carlton supporters on NFL forums, St Kilda forums, hell even Wikipedia has been given a go. I would guess any search on any Carlton forum with the word "JeffDunne" would get results - and I don't post on any of them (this one excluded).

So far you have bagged Whitnall, bagged the supporter base as a whole, called a mod on this board a troll and another a hypocrite, all the while on their territory. If I took action, I would be accused of baiting you, but the truth is, we didn't even know you were near the boat and you jumped in of your own accord.

Unlike some supporters I'm not that precious that I feel the need to defend my team every time some moron takes a shot. You guys should try it if you're sick of the trolling.

When I saw the thread title in the "Today's posts" list it got my interest. Hardly surpising given the number of times the "obsession" tag has been thrown my way by Carlton supporters.

However, I don't see how your "going on about how unfair the world was" statement is remotely accurate given what I've posted in this thread (or the examples you took the time to highlight).

TBH I think the reaction I get from Carlton supporters whenever I post anything on Carlton (good or bad) is the complete opposite to what you're suggesting.

There's been plenty of Carlton threads - especially the good news threads - where I'm asked by Carlton supporters my opinion before I even give it. FWIW I do realise those posts are somewhat tongue-in-cheek given before you start lecturing on having a self-inflated opinion.

Saw the title, thought 'hope it wasn't a Blues supporter', sighed when it was but then read on. As thought, universally shouted down by the mob, and fair enough too. It was pretty ordinary.

However, and here is the rub ..... when others, Hodgepodge for example, can start more than one thread about Judd being a dud, he generally gets plenty more posters chiming in to further expand on his theory.

Now calling Hodge a dud is silly to the extreme, but calling Judd a dud is equally as silly, if not more so. Confront them with the Judd call and it is 'don't take it so seriously, it's the Bay, my god you guys are sensitive'. Play the game and do exactly the same thing, and they forget the game and attack the poster. For a group of posters who like to think they are individually cool, they sure like to backslap and follow each other around. Hell, our supporters have even got Essendon and Hawthorn supporters backing each other up, instead of participating in the pisstake.

Our traffic is huge, we have collected our fair share of newcomers and recalcitrants and thus are ruffling more feathers. The villagers have heard the growling coming from the sinister dark castle on the hill, and using each other for shelter, have taken up torches and pitchforks to protect the docile lifestyle. I think I saw this on Van Helsing once.

Anyway, I digress. So many poor calls have been made over the years of our demise, that we threaten to make a lie of, and the originators of those lies, are worried they will be forced to account for them. What we are seeing is hope that their favourite whipping boys will not hold them to account, but it is laced with a whole lot of 'but if you do, it won't count' type disclaimers.

The battle of the football supporter will not be won in a backwoods forum on a football website, as much as the villagers would like it to be. Nor will it be won by popular vote amongst kindred spirits. Just as we can point to the thread above and concede it is a silly troll, those that troll against us know, through their false bravado, that they are no better. They just get clouded by an adrenaline rush and mass acceptance from their peers. Speaking of the peers .... now there is a cyber social status to be proud of.
