Just bored and thinking our best lineup for 05...starting with the forward lines, any thoughts?

IMO: f/f Burton, Welsh, Johncock
h/f: Hentschel, Perrie (assuming Stevo no-go) Edwards

In light of the Welshy debate this may prove interesting:

FF: Hudson/Biglands M.Stevens/Hentschel
HF Burton/Welsh I.Perrie???/M.Stevens Skipworth/Edwards/Stiffy/etc

Note: I've only gone with a five man forward line.

Now you have confused me Pext. You have a thread on how Kenny should be CHF and you have now flicked him out of calculations in this thread.

?????????

Anyway for me its

FF Welsh, Biglands, Johncock
HF M.Stevens, Hentchel, Edwards

Of course some of the resting onballers will come into calculations replacing Johncock and Edwards through rotation. Also the tall forward options will probably swap occasionally with Perrie, Jericho and Burton all playing roles.

Also, have the likes of Burton & Thompson rotating through too.

The starting 6 look about right to me.

More likely to be Bode and Thompson rotating through IMO though.

HF: Hentschel, Perrie, Johncock
FF: Welsh, Stevens, Edwards/McLeod/Burton/Biglands/Bode

That pocket is a bit of a mystery. With Edwards being so consistent in the midfield I think we will see Biglands up there (given what NC has said so far) as well as a crumber such as Bode or Skipworth.

McLeod and Thompson could also rotate, with Thommo/Macca playing HFF and Johncock moving into the FP or into the backline/midfield.

The real trick might be where Hentschel plays.

We're all placing him in the forward line, because we think the backline is adequately covered.

However Craig has made noises about Hentschel playing in the backlines. Removing Hentschel from the forward line makes it something like

HF: Welsh, Perrie, Johncock
FF: Edwards, Biglands, Stevens

McLeod, Edwards and Bode changing in the pocket to give us crumbing options near goal. Thompson, Johncock and Goodwin changing off a HF flank.

Welsh has to be HF under such a line-up otherwise we'd have no genuine crumbers to feed off of Biglands and Stevo.

Correct and thats why I said how I would personally line them up. You have been to more training sessions that me, so from your observations where has Hentschel trained most? In the backline or as a forward??????

We know that Craig will most certainly have a ruckman playing FF or forward pocket. We also know that Perrie has been one of the most impressive players on the training track and his last 5 games in 2004 indicate that he is a favourite for the CHF position. If Mark Stevens holds up and is fit enough to play then he would be one of the first picked in the side. With Stevens, Perrie and a ruckman we have 3 talls to play in teh forward line. Add a medium forward in Welsh to that mix and you have a pretty big forward line. With 3 talls and a medium you need some real crumbing power up forward. As much as I love Hentschel he is not a crumber so we will need a couple of smalls roating through there.

I for one wouldn't be surprised if Hentschel is played as a defender this year. Its a role that he could really flourish in and as a defender he is capable of playing on talls and smalls. One of the things that I look forward to this year is to see where Trent Hentschel will play.

I slightly disagree here. ;)

The central person here is Stevens - if he plays it will be at CHF with Perrie on a flank, Yes a tall in the pocket with Welsh the leading FF.

In this scenario I can see Hentschell as the third tall defender this year until Stevens retires - if Stevens breaks down then Hentschell will be in the forward lines in the blink of an eye.

You could be right, but I can see downsides in it - bearing in mind a few weeks back I would have had Stevo at CHF, so i've done a U-turn.

Perrie has come up so well and WANTS to play CHF. He did well there once Carey went last year and unlike Stevo he's not made of breakable glass.

The danger of Stevo playing at CHF is that he won't be playing at all for much longer and also its very risky as whether he breaks down or not. Certainly more likely to at CHF than at FF or a FP.

Stick Perrie out on a flank and we risk a repeat of what happened with Carey last year - Perrie falls apart.

Stevo taking the 2nd or 3rd tall defender in front of goals or the pocket will be a dangerous proposition.

That's how I see it, anyhow. :)

Craig has said he wont protect Stevens, he'll be played where it suits the team best.

Your right though it may be Perrie that plays the true CHF role with Stevens on the flank in a roaming capacity between CHF and FF.

But I just can't see him playing the true FF role - will stick with Welsh and resting ruckman. ;)

Seems that many are saying that Perrie will be CHF, Stevens on the FF line, along with a resting ruckman & Welsh. That makes three talls and a medium.

This in turn means that many are thinking that this means the Hentschel will play back.

Personally, I'd rather keep Hentschel forward, and drop Welsh entirely.
