Don't want to stand up for the excuse of a hard match, because, frankly. It doesn't stand up in my mind, but, you did have an 8 day break after your 'hard' match which you won by 10 goals. We came back from the Gold Coast, where we played in wet weather on a 7 day break, in which your supporters were saying we looked tired. You cannot use that as an excuse.

The difference is, im not using it as an excuse - i think we played an average game. I am, however, highlighting the hypocritical posts from your supporters. And with that im off - well played today.

Its hilarious to read the comments from bombers complaining about exactly what got them over the line last week - e.g coming off a hard match, early injuries (even though in this case they were probably a little less severe). Its an amusing world, football

Well done boys, great effort all round and had we won it would have been robbery to be honest.:thumbsu: But we fought it out all day came very close to taking home the points. Sign Dell up right now please!!

Frankly we were outcoached and outplayed but the fact we were within a whisker

No excuses from me, I am just very very proud.

Outcoached... You must be kidding?
Top game by both teams and great game as usual for ANZAC day clash
Essendon W4/L1 with the 1 loss by 1 point ...Not a bad start to the season...

ok im a bit calmer now, still the thing i said before wouldnt of helped but we did good to stay close jetta again had a good game showed we dont roll over any more we fight it out good game im just gutted so ignore my other posts

Losing Hurley hurt us more than expected - Ryder is not the answer as a key forward - And Carlisle is not ready.

Needed more from our best players.

Everything is tracking well - Defence has improved, midfield is developing, forwards are solid.

I need to ask for 2 things

1) Kicked more goals than behinds in each of the 5 games.
2) No early injuries - used SUB four times in the first quarter and once at half time.

I'm shattered as well but i'm already moving on to the Brissy lions.

Can't wait to smash the live **** out of them (I feel like they will be our punching bag).

Pretty frustrated now, but i'm thinking 5-1 will sound pretty good going against the eagles at home.

Outplayed for most of they day and still nearly won. Showed great courage.. this team is going places.

Couldn't be prouder of the boys!!!

Going to sink beers to drown the sorrows.

I wasn't surprised at all.

He is arguably the most important player in our team, our entire forward-line just falls to shit when he's not there.

No coincidence that our forward-line was generally abysmal.

I know, biggest myth in football is being a man down with an injury

Not a myth at all. Being able to bring on fresh legs in the last quarter is a huge advantage.

That was my impression at the game too. We really missed the lead-up across the half-forward line. Meant Crameri had to play higher up than we would ideally like. Carlisle will develop.

Great post.

Frankly we were outcoached and outplayed but the fact we were within a whisker of winning it shows just how far you can go on courage, passion and belief.

No excuses from me, I am just very very proud.

Not sure about outcoached or even outplayed. In fact, to get that close with the Sub vest being handed out in the first qrtr (again) I think your boys played better and were coached better to stay in it right to the end. Don't underestimate how good you played and were coached today. :thumbsu:

HOWEVER.... Saying that, I completely agree with you that courage, passion and belief are ultimately assets any footy side should aim to attain. I remember thinking that a couple of minutes after the 2005 GF. The players that come to mind for me are players like Kirk or Kelly. For the Dons it'd be the Hirds of this world that show that nothing (skill, physical stature, education, fitness etc) can ever replace the fierce determination, effort, courage, passion and belief that I saw in some of your guys today. Impressive spirit shown.

Every year my fiance and I go to the Sydney.v.Essendon game as she's a Dons supporter. Last years (Goodes kicking after the siren) was the best game all year (even though the Bloods just missed out). After the performance today, I'm really really looking forward to a tough battle yet again. :thumbsu:

I agree totally regarding our courage and spirit and haven't we improved and I truly believe the conditioning work put into the group has done wonders. Our hardness over the contested ball, our tackling and ability to break a tackle/push off is proving the bulk put on certain players is paying dividends.

The result today is a great one given we had so many of our higher ball winners down for parts.

I'm not shattered. I'm very pleased with the effort the Bombers put in. Definitely improving even though our depth is being sorely tested. That's 4 games where we have had to use the sub in the first quarter, guys are still going hard even though they are at a disadvantage.

A very brave effort, with Collingwood having the best 3 or 4 players on the ground - and a lot of our boys down. If we only could have won that last centre clearance ... :(

Great effort today, courage takes a team to great heights. This match truly showed that Essendon are going places, to come back and fight like that with no fresh legs is an amazing thing. I'm a very proud man tonight. :thumbsu:

Thanks GTG. I've been sensing a bit of Swans about the Bombers this year in how we are building belief and playing beyond expectations of the wider AFL community.

I wish we won today but I'm happy that we're heading in the right direction. I thought our tackling and desperation were fantastic all day - desperately needed a get out kick in the first half. It was too tight to use the ball as we'd wish because of finals like intensity and our forwards needed an even money chance. In the 2nd half when the strategy was adjusted, it showed what we can achieve despite a rampant opposition midfield.

On phone so will make it short. Shattered but so ****ing proud of the boys. Shit happens and we lost hibberd. It happens. We had our chances they also had chances they missed to keep us in it. We lost and it sucks but we move on with the belief we can hang with these teams and carry it on through this year and beyond. I agree with being out coached in the first half with Harry being left alone. It killed us. But **** it, gonna keep drinking more beers
