It's going to be interesting to see what you guys do this season. Missing Biglands dropping in and playing a role in the forward line is going to be difficult, but you seem to have enough big bodied players who can at least play a role, even w/o dominating the game.

Roo should almost play a permenant forward role. He is much like Brad Johnson in that, when he plays forward he is very damaging, and even to the point where it off-sets the benefits gained from playing him further up the field, rather than in the goal square.

Burton is crucial to your forward line, as he gives that X-Factor, and can really be difficult to match-up on because of his leap.

You really lack one classy crumber, Bode is good - he applies a lot of defensive pressure, but he will never do THAT well as the main goal scoring crumber. Perhaps Vince can play that role, he's good some good moves and a great goal sense from what I have seen of him both through juniors and his matches last year. He just needs some more meat on that body.

I think the Dogs forward line this year will be one to be envious of

Giansiracusa, Murphy, Akermanis
Johnson, Darcy, Robbins.

Bulldogs will be unstoppable this year, they will move the ball very quickly and simply over run sides, Akermanis is a dangerous addition to an already fantastic side loaded with young talent, all the best for 2007.

I'd go with;

FF: Roo - Kenny - Welsh
HF: Burton - Bock - Bode

Kenny is essentially a stay-at-home FF, with Roo and Welsh leading options.

Bock obviously at CHF with Bode crumbing his ass off and Burton streaming forward to take hangers on top of the goalposts.

As for Perrie, I simply think he no longer can cut it. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, but that is what I think at the moment.

The dogs look good on paper but they still look at tad inconsisnent. Robbin and Gia(however you spell his name) especially but even Akka can be a bit up and down. It is a smallish forward line that is going to rely a lot of Johnson but I’m not saying it’s the worst out there – just debatable to how good it really will be.

Back to the Crows, I really think Bock holds the key to a successful ’07 for the crows. (I’m not getting into what I define as successful – way to off topic !)
Bock needs to beable to hold down CHF which I think he can, which then enable Perrie to remain as the floating HFF which he does effectively. After that I think there will be a few rotations throughout the remaining 4 spots.
Nick Gill, Roo, Bode, Vince and probably Knights will all get a run through the area and I think that S. Thompson will be put on the HFF.
The major variable for me is which young ruckmen wins the contest to be 2nd behind hudson, if Meeson win it I can see the ruckman rotating through the forward line. If its Maric then I reckon they will try and use Mcgregor up forward and use Hudson as a pinch hitter.

My likely forward line come Rd 1 (of the preseason cup atleast)

Gill Meeson/Hudson/Mcgregor Roo
Thompson Bock Perrie

Now I realise this selection would come under fire as it really lacks a crumber but I still think its possiblity. Bode would be the swap with Thompson as midfiled rotations so that would put him as a HFF for half od the game

Yes he has a big engine think he could be a very handy player on the wing, could also put Porplyzia on the wing and let him give it a crack.

I think both Reilly and VB will play midfield more often then not. Mattner and Knights/Porpyzia will probably play on the wing, maybe Edwards or Goodwin to give them a rest

Like Johncock (maybe he never will) he doesn’t have the engine yet to be a genuine midfielder yet.

Brett Burton was 3rd with 41

Matthew Bode was 4th with 32 goals

Scott Welsh was number 11 kicking 12 goals (playing only a few games for the season)

Nathan Bock was number 12 kicking 11 goals

Jason Porplyzia was number 13 kicking 10 goals.

When you have a look at that, the 6 men that i put in the forward line, are all in our top 13 goal kickers.

Biglands kicked 20 goals in 2006 so there is another tall option for 2008

This is my exact reason as to why 2007 will not be the AFC's year, hence we have to find 62 goals straight away, where do they come from??? Are Welsh, Perrie and McGregor finally going to step it up????

A lot is riding on the fitness of Welshy in my opinion. Some of you might be shocked to know that in 2005 when we finished top at the end of the minor round, our 3 leading goalkickers were:

Can I diasgree with that ......often Perrie has been used as the lead up forward, with Kenny the player stationed for the high kick into the forwrd line........this by the nature of the role he's been asked to play does not allow for many contested pack marks.

But he has taken some notable ones in particular games so to say he'll never take one is a bit overstated.
