Yes our forward line could become exremely dangerous with having leroy as the spare,Cloke,Anthony,Medhurst, Davis and Didak, plus Dawes must be given time in the seniors to see what he can do and if Rusling can string a season together i would have him at full forward leading out,Anthony next to him and Cloke outrside the fifty with medhurst in between and we will give many sides headaches they won't believe, plus Josh can become more a depth player up forward.Remember with Josh the club has admitted that his knee has to managed for the rest of his career, which means fraser will not play every week,to give him longevity.

Still injuries aside we will be definate top 4 side and come finals time we could do the miracle we have all hoped ,for win the silver ware.........

Woops i better not get too excited just yet.I will crawl back into the bin and keep the lid on.See ya on the last saturday day in Sept guys!

After the weekends performance I am favouring a forwardline of:

F: Tarkyn Lockyer Jack Anthony Paul Medhurst
HF: Leon Davis Travis Cloke Alan Didak
Rotation: Dale Thomas Josh Fraser

Didak: I would play as a near perminant forward. With a stacked midfield of: Ball, Pendlebury, Swan, O'Bree, Beams and Sidebottom there is really no need for him to play there. Would put him there for short periods of the game but ultimately with the what St Kilda are planning to implement of putting their better ball users (Dal Santo and Goddard) forward I think we should follow as our forwardline otherwise would be weak, and with a now strong midfield it would be the logical thing to do to give us some more goalkicking power.

Davis: Really like his play on a half forward flank. Like Didak is pure class and should also spend most of his time forward. Could spend periods in the midfield but ultimately like Didak see it his powers being used best up forward to help this team.

Thomas: Would split his time between playing forward and midfield. Once he is over his niggling injuries I think he needs to spend some time in the midfield. We could really use his attack in the way that Sydney did with Jetta on the weekend for pure attacking purposes.

With Leigh Brown as possible backup KPF (Looked good on the weekend but still would like to have him as a backup if Cloke/ JA are not available) and Brad Dick to possibly break into the side later in the year. With Macaffer and McCarthy pushing for a spot in the 2s as forwards.

I would put a real emphasis on loading up our forwardline because we are going to get allot more delivery this year with Jolly now rucking and now Ball added into the midfield. Pendlebury, Beams and Sidebottom all have another year of development in them and O'Bree is ever reliable so with a dangerous forwardline like this I can see us dominating teams and being right up there with Geelong and St Kilda.

In terms of backs, midfielders, ruck division and forwards, perhaps our forward line is now, relatively, the one that needs sorting out.

Personal opinion only, but I think we now such have abundant talent in the midfield, that Leon and Didak can return to be permanent forwards.

My feeling is that's where their greater value lies.

Davis as a permanent forward pocket and Didak HFF roaming role. Medhurst as another small/medium in the forward line then your talls, perhaps Leroy in the goalsquare, Travis CHF, Jolly/Fraser resting.

JA should come in when fit, who goes out depends on form and matchups.
Of course, if the midfield needs a lift, or someone needs a to shake a tag, Leon and Dids could rotate through the midfield as required.
That would maybe for Round 1, but who knows with NAB cup, they could try any combination, youngsters etc
100% my thoughts. How does one relay this message to Malthouse?...hehehe.

Just on Dawes and Rusling..they will get their chance when and if they consistently kick bags in the VFL and push for selection...until then Anthony is the man!

I am confused though Cloke Fraser Wood Jolly L Brown and some say Dawes in the same side? maybe leroy and josh will become utilities off the interchange?

I dont know if you guys can recall, but Leroy actually played quite well at ff in the prelim vs geelong.

i watched the game the other day and he was one of our best, constantly taking grabs on the lead. give him a go up forward and see how we go, i like a 3 tall forward line

3 tAll forward line? We have the extra man in defence which means we would have something like Anthony cloke LBrown medhurst with Fraser, didak, Davis, dick, Thomas all rotating through? Waaaaaay to tall IMO

Yeah, Brown did well on the weekend and I'm sure Malthouse will give him games, but I can't see him improving us as a permanent forward.

Agree with Didak and Davis spending more time around the HFF, neither wins their own ball consistently, and Didak's inability to defend was magnified far more in the midfield.

One change I'd like to see would be Medhurst moved to FF leading out of the goalsquare at times. He'll outmark most defenders his size and his wide frame means he rarely gets spoiled on the lead. He played his first few seasons at Fremantle as a 5"10 CHF, so knows how to mark on the lead. We've got enough crumbing forwards without him, and people are forgetting that Malthouse views Dick as an integral part of our forwardline.

HF Didak Cloke Thomas/Lockyer
FF Davis Anthony Medhurst

Anthony was a 50 goal FF last year, has to get the gig again and should be expected to improve (assuming fit to go)

Cloke is our most important palyer and loved his game on Friday, if he has a big season everyone else on the forward line will benefit and watch what that does. I think he will be v good this year.

Thomas/Lockyer to share the role of defensive forward with Lockyer a constant stable threat to kick goals and Thomas to continue with the mercurial at times to complement the hard work he has always done

Didak Davis Medhurst 3 AA's with the potential to carve it up. That becomes a feast of goal kicking options. If these guys wre to play up to potential this would be the no 1 forward line in the AFL

I agree almost 100% with Gone Critical, except I'd have;

HF Didak/Thomas Cloke Lockyer
FF Davis Anthony Medhurst

For the simple reason that Thomas and Davis are a lot more potent in the midfield than what Lockyer is at this stage in his career.

You can't have a guy spending 50% of the game off the ground, so it'll have to be a Thomas/Davis rotation as opposed to Lockyer/Thomas
