with leigh brown's impressive performance against the saints....whats our forward line gonna look like?
it really has me phased...

cloke, lockyer, leighroy, medhurst, anthony, fraser, didak, thomas, davis, rusling

who goes where?

Leeroy is very hit and miss, but he deserves a spot there. He is a great luxury to have given how impressive he was at CHB late last year.

HF: Davis/Dick, Cloke, Lockyer
FF: Medhurst, L.Brown, Anthony

With Didak and Thomas going through as well. Fraser will play forward too, but with Leeroy there, a lot less so to avoid being top-heavy.

At the risk of seeming utterly sacreligious I think that Leigh Brown would be just as good as Cloke in that role, possibly even better.

completely disagree. cloke is a workhorse, i think he's one of the most important players in our team, if not THE most important player in our team

this would surely have to be one of the most potent and dangerous forward lines in the business?

ryza I don't agree on it being one of the most potent or dangerous forward lines in the league, wouldn't bet on it being in the top 3 even, but compared to last year it does look a little more dangerous. We do have fantastic players that can run through the midfield aswell as the forward line though, and we have a good quality utility player in Leroy, hopefully he can just put his stamp on that full forward position.

hawthorn is the only forward line that i can think of that is better then ours?
saints only have the two big boys in riewoldt and kosi
much the same with brisbane in brown and fevola
Adelaide could rival us, but that just aboit it IMO....

I wouldn't get extremely over joyed about Brown's performance yet. He was impressive yes, but he is very up and down.

He will once again fill the holes when we need them, but don't expect him to be a permanent fixture in the forward 50.

I don't like the old 3 tall setup either, it rarely works these days.

He's a bit of a swingman at best. Plug a hole here and there. He might get bored if he just played one possie. Plus if he started kicking too many goals the children at that fantasy footy site would have to find somebody else to bag.

I cant believe you guys haven't got Chris Dawes in the mix, he is the forward you guys have been craving, 2010 should be his breakout year..

yea I agree but unfortunately for dawesy he never gets a fair crack at cementing a spot. Didn't even get a game last year when our whole forward line was out.

In terms of backs, midfielders, ruck division and forwards, perhaps our forward line is now, relatively, the one that needs sorting out.

Personal opinion only, but I think we now such have abundant talent in the midfield, that Leon and Didak can return to be permanent forwards.

My feeling is that's where their greater value lies.

Davis as a permanent forward pocket and Didak HFF roaming role. Medhurst as another small/medium in the forward line then your talls, perhaps Leroy in the goalsquare, Travis CHF, Jolly/Fraser resting.

JA should come in when fit, who goes out depends on form and matchups.
Of course, if the midfield needs a lift, or someone needs a to shake a tag, Leon and Dids could rotate through the midfield as required.
That would maybe for Round 1, but who knows with NAB cup, they could try any combination, youngsters etc

No where near the most potent. Seriously ryza get over rusling. If he plays a game this year and sets the world on fire and strings a handful of games together without gettin injured then by all means let's talk him up! But untill then he's just a liability with potential. Dawes would get a run before him and deserves it.

Cloke holds the key to us having a top 4 forward line. Change that 2-5 to 5-2 or even 4-3 and suddenly were a lot more dangerous and look a hell of a lot better

Each of those four teams could reasonably claim to be better than us in the forwardline, as well as maybe the Dogs (Hall, Aker, Johnson, Murphy, etc).

Brown is a tall utility - period! Love or hate him that is his role. If he could be relied on to kick straight he would have lined up more as a forward last year. It was great he managed a bag on Saturday night and last year's goal against the Crows was a cracker too .... but his most important role in any game last year was when he took on Browny in the Brisbane game. He is a tall that can take and give a hit with the body that gets up for the next game. He'll be used to pitch hit where we need him but as a perm KKP - no thanks..... it's bad enough Clokey can't be relied on as a tall forward to kick goals we don't need another perm KKP doing the same.

More option or percieved depth doesn't make it a more potent fowardline. It's quality over quantity.

We have a lot of percieved depth but in reality it's a different story.

I wouldn't go getting carried away with L Brown the foward he played well in a practice match and will be a good stop gap but in reality I don't think he is going to go from an inconsistant bit parts player over 200 games too a star foward. Consistancy and match ups plays a big part in his career to date.

I still wouldn't have him in our best fowardline although I am sure he will be given the chance and he did earn it. FWIW I would go with a foward line something like

Medhurst Anthony Rotation (Thomas / Swan / Davis)

Tarks Cloke Didak

At the risk of seeming utterly sacreligious I think that Leigh Brown would be just as good as Cloke in that role, possibly even better.

I have a solution. Clokey takes the grab, fakes an injury and Leroy kicks for him. Deadly combination.

HF: Didak-Cloke-Thomas
F: Medhurst-Anthony-Lockyer

L.Brown kicked 4 goals last weekend, but 3 of them were when he drifted forward and got the ball uncontested, only one was when he took a contested mark. Simply, Anthony, our 50 goal FF, is our full forward, not Dawes, not L.Brown, and he will get the best defender every week like last year because he is our most dangerous forward.

L.Brown played one good game, but Cloke, Anthony, and Medhurst are all in front of L.Brown as lead and mark players.

Hey guys,

Hows rusling going with injury? Will he play in rnd 1?
At this stage, no one is sure. Even if he's fit he may not get a game.

I agree with Swoop; Didak and Davis back to the forward line. Thomas to the forward line (he's always played best there). Medhurst to stay, Anthony to stay, Cloke to stay.

Didak Cloke Thomas
Davis Anthony Medhurst

Doesn't look half bad.

Edit: In justifying Didak and Davis back to the forward line - we now have a good midfield. Jolly, Wood and Fraser to handle rucking, Pendles, Swan, O'Bree, Ball, Beams, Sidebottom, Wellingham, Macaffer winning the ball. Pendles, Sidebottom and Wellingham (at times) are great disposers of the ball but with Didak hanging around HF he'd be the one to deliver i50. Last year Beams and Sidebottom were first year players and Wellingham was unreliable, but they've all now got a (-nother) pre-season under their belt. I think we can afford to send the DDs back to the forward line (where we need them most).
