Pick 21 - Nathan Hrovat would have been a bette pick than Ben Ken!
A similar argument could be mounted about James Stewart over Jackson Ramsey!
The Ramsay over Stewart will be an interesting outcome. I'm still hopeful on BenKen. Think he has the tools, but just needs to get that endurance right.

I'm hoping that BK can at worst, cement a spot for himself as a crumbing forward who has an odd run through the middle. He certainly has the tools to make it happen, and has the burst of speed required to make it tough for opposition defenders to nullify him.

Broomy has more scope to become a permanent mid imo. Has a slight build, but is quick, has silky skills, is very hard to tackle, and is not afraid to go inside to get the ball out from the bottom of a pack.

He will be a star! Bookmark it ace andy :p:p:p

Hopefully once players like Pendlebury and Beams, and to a lesser extent Sidebottom start aging we develop a core midfield of Sier and Phillips with De Goey, Stephenson and Maynard all transitioning to more permanent roles too. Maynard was mooted to make the transition to midfield this year before the injuries, but now hopefully Quaynor and Appleby can fulfil similar roles in defence.

Degoey Maynard and Sier with Grundy tapping it to them will be the strongest forward moving midfield going around, tough hard ball winners all can extract from contest and burst i50.
Personally I see Trelore as a winger, and Adams becomes a perfect rotation with Degoey in forward line.
Adams in the forward 50 won't be an amazing goal kicker but can play a pressure role and any forward 50 contest will win as he is a prolific contested beast.
The sad eventual retirements of Pendles Sidey and Beams won't hinder any centre functions whatsoever .

De Goey and Sier are gonna be such a strong onball brigade, add Maynard to the mix and you have three 190cm onballers, none lacking a bit of toe

Why does everyone keep saying Maynard should run through the middle? It’s been going on since the start of this thread... he isn’t a midfielder. He can defend and win the contest but he isn’t an in and under type ball winner, nor does he have the attributes as someone with quick hands that can create space. His best position is back so he can use his left foot to create space downfield IMO.

Played a fair bit of midfield in under 18’s, shifted back mainly because we needed another medium defender and didnt need a midfielder.

I wouldnt be surprised if he just stayed down back however.

You make good a point with his kicking.

Because the club said last pre-season that Maynard would be getting more midfield minutes in 2018. That didn't end up happening because the injuries started to mount up. It's not some random thing I've pulled out of thin air.

Doesn’t the poll look old and tired?

Might need to be expunged.

That said, let’s worry about the future retirements of Scott, Dayne and then Steele.
Three, four more years till that is on the cards. Let’s hope.

Just think this year our opposition must prepare for our mind boggling midfield.

Grundy: Pendlebury, Beams, Treloar, Adams, Sier, Sidebottom, Wells, De Goey....

and occasionally even pig greenwood (hi there Joel);

And who knows occasionally others might get a run through like Stephenson, Crisp....

It’s devastating. I can’t ever recall a better mid group of such numbers and talent...

How about 94;
Monkhorst, Brown, McGuane, Buckley, Shaw, Francis, Russell, Williams, Wright with Burns on the list but yet to debut...

Very very good yes.

Did the bulk of them all play together in a game?

As I recall circa 1990 it was Monkhorst with mcguane Francis saw supported in games though forward brown Daicos Russell Wright Millane.

Quite a few but it was the first year I'd ever seen as a Collingwood supporter that we lacked a significant forward firepower and our backline was aging very quickly. Rocca had a down season without a centre half forward (Jason McCartney swung back and forward). Reality had started to sink in that Daicos was actually gone and it was a fairly long and gloomy season.

The player most suited to superseding Greenwood in that midfield run with - tagger position in my view but as we continue to grow/develop our midfield depth his potential to transition out of defence diminishes.

Didn’t vote because the midfield player is dependant upon the ruck.
And we only have one star ruck.
What the hell happens if he falls over?
Hopefully the star midfielders understand there is a time to stop roving to our ruckman.
Then we go to Cox or Roughead or Lynch. Why do you have to be so doom and gloom and hyperbolic all the time?
