Some of it should certainly be spent on retaining Jenkins. Lose him, and we lose some of our competitive advantage up forward. The Crows' forward line is so strong because, like a bridge, it's built with redundancy - more parts than are needed to keep it up. If one or two of our forwards have an off day, we can still kick a winning score. If the opposition's best two defenders go to Tex and JJ, that frees up Lynch, Eddie and co.

Makes you wonder how PAP was nearly 100% of their cap when they took on Ryder but the next year sign Dixon on 700-800k.

Well there was Kane's money and they went into 2016 with 39 players instead of 40 which was another saving there. I think guys like Hartlett and Wingard have been put on back ended contracts etc

One thing for sure, if the right opportunity is there we have the money to spend on it. I agree with the consensus, that it has to be a gun midfielder.

Gold coast seems to be the opening at the moment - would be plenty of dissatisfaction through that list. Prestia would be a great get, and might be possible for the right money?

In 2017 I estimate we have somewhere in the vicinity of $1.2 million in spare salary cap space, assuming Thompson and Van Berlo retire

Well it looks like I'll have a bit on for the rest of this year. But coming into the new year I'm free. Also thinking of heading back to lil 'ol Adelaide. So the timing is perfect.

Where did you get those numbers from Scorpus? Wouldn't think Talia would be so low? And Henderson seems high.

Like any thoughts on salary, it's mainly a guess. Scorpus and I have discussed this before. There's 'reported' figures where they have been reported (which isn't often for us), otherwise it's about what he feels they are worth.

So the Tippett money got eaten up too easily.
Looks like Neale will re-sign at Freo, so that doesnt leave many big fish for us to go after.
We really need a couple of elite mids next year, and I cant see us getting them. Maybe we can get a Sam Mayes from Brisbane, but hes more outside.
In the draft I think Port will take Sharenberg before us and that draft is a little light on.

For sure GCS are a mess and alot want out, but Prestia is from Vic and wants to go home, JOM is from WA but they say he wants to do an Aish and go to Vic.
Swallow has bad knees but again is a WA guy and has a brother playing at the Roos.
The one I like the most is Hall, and hes from Tassie, but he is signed up till 2018.
Sam Day might come home, but he aint no mid lol.

I cant see many defender on that sort of money. Maybe Rance.

Sometimes you have to pay overs to keep an important commodity.

With the go home factor, him being a top 3 key defender across the entire league and our need to retain key players - we would had to pay a bit more to keep him. $650,000 - $750,000 would not surprise me. But this is jusyt my opinion.

Surely there is quite a bit of salary cap left over especially with vb, thommo and henderson either retiring or moving end of year! If there isnt 1.5m -2m left over, there is some very ordinary players taking the piss for the efforts they are putting up!

What an awesome avatar. God I love big Tex. So does my son. At last count he has 11 Tex badges, dolls, pictures and other Tex toys (say that one quickly).

On second thoughts. I may have a stalker on my hands.

Ha ha ha - yep. Great line.

Reckon Talia around 3.5 for five.
Rat around 250 to 300 for two.
Only 350 for an All Australian, best and fairest winner averaging 1.5 goals against a game and is a member of the leadership group? Arguably the best key position defender in the league? Massive unders if so.

What is this about 1.5 goals a game? And I think that's 3.5 mil over 5 years which is 700k per year.
