What about Alfred Deakin - I suppose it was a collective effort by all those who participated in the Constitutional Convention. They engineered the form of our Federal democracyBombers 2003 said:Agreed,or even Barton.
Yes,probably he more then Parkes and Barton could be considered the 'father of our democracy'.Mark Perica said:What about Alfred Deakin - I suppose it was a collective effort by all those who participated in the Constitutional Convention. They engineered the form of our Federal democracy

Didn't Henry Parkes campaign against the eventually successfull second attempt at federation (because he wasn't in charge). He was nothing but an egotistical windbag, who should be taken off the $5 note (and replaced by Peter Lalor).medusala said:Not so sure we have a "father of democracy", surely Henry Parkes was more important in the greater scheme of things than Lalor.

I certainly do NOT claim to be religious, exactly the opposite. I blame religion for most woes of the worlds history.Bombers 2003 said:I'm sorry Frodo would even think such,as he claims to be a religious ?.But then that's the religious isnt it.
I doubt you've ever had a bonk so how would you know? And no, your own hands don't count. At least mantis had the good sense to be completely repulsed by your lame attempts to break the lifetime drought.Frodo said:I don't know what it is but despite everything you really have passion. Let me get this particular comment right...Capitalist said:honestly if you earn ofver about 40k private health should be maditory (noone can really be against this because the more you earn the more you are suppling to the health departments by allowing those less fortunate to get a hospital bed in the public system)
You mean the party that modernised our economy?Capitalist said:because most people who are voting remember the labor party of the late 80's early 90's the labor party is going to have a hard time getting back in.

Interest rates were high because house prices were low, now vice-versa. The amount of money people spend paying off their homeloans is about the same.MGREG said:No he means the party that gave us record bankruptcy rates and 17% interest rates and then said it was a soft landing! DOH!![]()

As for bankruptcy, Labor cannot be blamed for worldwide trends in business practices during the 1980s.
MGREG said:Plus world wide trnds had nothing to do with Pyramid, Tricontinental, National SAfety Council (John Friedrich) and the State Bank of Victoria. All ALP disasters.

kirky said:I think you'll find National Safety Council was fraud (similar to the NAB and the King brothers). By the way, if a bank lends money to companies for inflated asset prices why should it be the fault of the government of the day (and I should know I have worked in a bank for 26 years) given each of these entities had their own board? Bad lending and internal practices are the responsibility of the Bank and its board otherwise we shouldn't we be blaming the Liberals for the disasters that have beset the NAB over the last 2-3 years (lost $4b in Homeside and $300m + for the currency options).
Rob Jolly and John Cain came out and endorsed them when a minor run began in early 1990, then they rolled over a few months later.MGREG said:Pyramid?Rob Jolly and John Cain came out and endorsed them when a minor run began in early 1990, then they rolled over a few months later.
State Bank was not a private bank. It was as the CBA used to be. Government had a say in things.
NSC came about due to poor gevernment auditing of their alleged assets. Didnt look in the bins where equipment was allegedly stored.
kirky said:State Bank was exactly like the BankSA - it still had a board who reported to the government of the day. If the board and its directors do dodgy things what can the government do - after all it doesn't run the Bank.
