Who do we think we are?

Port?

A good reason to play it at KR, two days over the weekend.

The deal needs to be if we give the SACA this, our AFLW side plays it next Finals at AO.

Would draw a bigger crowd...

This.

In 2017 they played an International Rules test at Adelaide Oval the day after a 4 day tour match. Going way back, there was also the NYE pre-season game at the MCG a day or so after a test match was played there.

If they can turn around the ground for that in under 24 hours surely they can shoehorn the Shield final in between footy matches.

Plus this gives the AFL leverage to host the AFLW GF at Adelaide Oval should us (or Port) earn hosting rights.

I would stipulate that the AFLW grand final is hosted at AO only in the event Adelaide qualify. Port still have to play at Alberton

Dont think itll matter that much, its not going to be as lush as normal but itll be fine.
Grass needs to be a certain level for a game to go ahead due to concussion reasons.

We would need to cut it at half the level for the match and keep it there

If the grass is not at the level, we forfeit the match and lose 4 points.

If the game needs to be played there then move out match

SA Premier lashes Adelaide Crows cash request to allow Sheffield Shield final at Adelaide Oval

An AFL club has been called out for asking for a cash incentive to allow the Sheffield Shield final to be played at the Adelaide Oval.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas says he won’t be bowing to a “galling” request from the Adelaide Crows for a financial incentive to allow the Sheffield Shield final to be played at the Adelaide Oval between two AFL games.
The SA government, Cricket Australia and the AFL are working towards wedging the final in between Port Adelaide’s season-opening match at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, March 22 and the Crows game at the same venue the following Sunday.
The drop-in pitches used during the season have already been removed from the venue ahead of the Crows’ first AFL home game on March 16 but could be put in for a Monday to Friday clash and then removed with minimal impact.
Malinauskas has made it a priority for SA, which last won the Shield in 1996 and has already secured the home final, to play the game at Adelaide Oval.

But on Wednesday he revealed a “request” for cash and hoped that it “doesn’t get in the way” of the plan coming together.

“We have received a request, it’s not from cricket, I won’t say what entity it is in footy,” he told 5AA in Adelaide before intimating it was from the Crows.

“What I would say is we are asking for people to act rationally and pragmatically in the interest of fans.

“The South Australian government has already shown an awful lot of support to both footy clubs locally, particular the Adelaide footy club.

“I’ve got to say it’s a little bit galling that people are trying to use an opportunity to look after fans as an opportunity to slug the taxpayer and I won’t be having it.

“Just handing over cash is not something that I’ll be doing. I hope this doesn’t get in the way of it.

“I’m not naming any names, I’m just saying my government is not going to be giving cash so they get out of the way of something everybody thinks should happen.”

"everyone is going to have to give a little bit" - well Mali, I can see that the cricket and the Crows are giving "a little bit", but what is your beloved filth giving?

Premier Peter Malinauskas’ wish to relive childhood memories of South Australia’s last Sheffield Shield triumph is set to help ensure the final is played at Adelaide Oval between AFL rounds, after SA sealed hosting rights by all but eliminating Victoria.
Malinauskas has been a prime mover in complicated negotiations between the AFL, the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power, Cricket Australia and the SACA to find a way of playing the decider at the state’s premier sporting venue. SA last won the Shield in 1996.

The plan moved from theory to reality due to a fifth-wicket stand of 148 between Jake Lehmann (105 not out) and Liam Scott (83) that allowed SA to reel in a fourth-innings target of 300 at Junction Oval. Lehmann cracked a hat-trick of boundaries to reach three figures and complete the win that banked top spot on the Shield table with one round to spare.
Two senior sports industry sources with knowledge of discussions told this masthead that a compromise would “almost certainly” be reached to have the final played at Adelaide Oval, given that SA had qualified in time for arrangements to be made.

If so, the SACA is expected to offer free admission to the final for spectators.
While talks are ongoing, the likely outcome will see the Shield final played from Monday, March 24, to Friday, March 28, slotting in between Port Adelaide’s round two game against Richmond on Saturday, March 22, and the Crows’ round three fixture against North Melbourne on Sunday, March 30. CA’s program originally had the Shield final starting on Wednesday, March 26.

Malinauskas, now 44, has recalled racing from school to the cricket ground to watch the closing moments of the dramatic draw that secured SA’s most recent Shield title in 1996, and believes this opportunity for his state to again host the final is too important for it to be played anywhere but the Adelaide Oval.
“This issue has been drawn to my attention, I did spend a bit of time on the weekend making a few calls,” Malinauskas told the ABC last week. “I’m pretty optimistic that with some hard-headed reason, there’s a compromise to be had here that would allow it to be played at Adelaide Oval.

“But everyone is going to have to give a little bit. There’s a whole bunch of moving parts to this, but after the calls I’ve made, I’m pretty optimistic we’re going to get the right outcome if wiser heads prevail. I think the Crows have an appetite for pragmatism here, and that is to their great credit. The AFL’s got a role to play.”
Adelaide Oval is already reconfigured for footy, meaning SA’s final regular season game against Queensland, starting Saturday, will be played at Karen Rolton Oval. But it’s expected curator Damian Hough will get the green light to reconfigure the venue for cricket, with the return of a drop-in pitch and cutting the grass to cricket levels, before it is then turned around for football.
Malinauskas’ interest has aided cricket’s quest to reach a favourable outcome with football. In 2016 – the last time SA hosted the Shield decider – the game was played at Glenelg Oval after the Power and the Crows blocked the option of playing at Adelaide Oval.
Although not totally out of the reckoning, Victoria will need to defeat Western Australia outright in Perth in the final round and hope other results go their way. New South Wales, WA and Queensland are also in contention for the decider after the Bulls beat Tasmania by nine wickets in Hobart.

SA are expected to be bolstered by the return of Alex Carey for the final, although former captain Travis Head and a host of players from other states will be unavailable due to their imminent departures for the Indian Premier League.

Maybe the ground destruction can start at 3/4 time of their game once their supporters are on the bus?

Looking in from interstate - and avoiding all political leanings/policies etc - but he seems by far and away the most successful, charismatic and likeable Premier BY FAR. The best Premier by far looking at some key metrics (and not being aware of others like state debt, budgets etc). Who would have thought ADL property>>>MLB property although it’s perhaps slightly misleading due to the composition of properties in each city (MLB has double the % of units/apts/thouses therefore suppressing overall median value for all properties)

Has attracted some great events and even in his rebuff to the Crows asking for money, it’s hard not to actually see and understand his rationale considering the bigger Thebby funding

Lots of other states would LOVE him compared to some “lesser lights” in other jurisdictions who are actually quite despised

The headlines and Mali make it sound like a cash grab but really all we are looking for are assurances and not be liable for injury or if our game cannot go ahead.

I don't think what we/AFL have asked for is unreasonable. Certainly not galling as he put it.

I heard the interview on radio this morning and I'd be absolutely fuming if I were AFC management. Basically spelt out it was the Crows under the bus but then follows it up with "I'm not naming any names". Not the way to go about it imo

The Advertiser have it as its the AFL who want the cover, which I can totally understand.
