Surely if having premier ovals available is important, then CA schedule the final to occur before the start of the AFL season. Both cricket Australia and SACA were well aware there could be a date clash well before.
Well no it wouldn't be,Imagine if the AFL agreed.
SA wins the Shield before midday on day 4 (Friday) in front of 4000 people at AO.
It would be embarrassing.

The push for Adelaide Oval is starting to make sense though.
Trying to hide that little secret, that some bean counter unwittingly signed away a few days of their lease without realising the significance.
It's a bit like the Tippett side deal. A ticking time bomb.
It's why the Shield final is scheduled for March 26-30. Cricket Australia chose that date because it falls inside every summer/winter sporting lease arrangement in the country.
It's only Shield cricket so I doubt there'll be any major media scrutiny but this would be a major screw up by my measure. Staff responsible sacked, board members who oversaw the signatures forced to resign.
Leaving your team without an oval is about as incompetent as sports administration can possibly get.
Can't hold it at say Prince Alfred College?
Obviously they'd be aghast at common people on the grounds but surely a deal could be done
So now it's a Sheffield Shield grand final, not tiddlywinks? The Sheffield shield final which will have 300 people there doesn't have precedence over round 1 no.
So now it's a Sheffield Shield grand final, not tiddlywinks?
Crowd factor doesn't matter. Our national summer sport, which we make the grand final and the right to host it should always prioitise round one of our national winter sport.
Such a request would be laughed at if Victoria wanted to play a Shield Final at the G....
But it's not Round 1, it's round 3 and it's actually the 4th week of the AFL season. This isn't a minor scheduling overlap. Cricket Aust knew AO wasn't available for the shield final. Same for MCG, SCG, Gabba and even Optus Stadium. It's almost like they know there's a good chance they will be playing the final at a "2nd" ground every year unless Tas or WA hostSo now it's a Sheffield Shield grand final, not tiddlywinks?

Of course he did. There was no camp too, remember.
Football has been played at Adelaide oval for a lot longer than a decadeRound 1 gets precedence over a grand final.
Cricket at AO for over 100 years vs AFL at AO for a decade.
The 1995 Shield final was 26-30 March, they squeezed the ODI season to fit in the Big Bash. The blame with this lies entirely with Cricket Australia for pushing the shield into football season to accommodate a T20 competition that runs three times longer than it ought to run - the AFL wouldn't have been able to try a cynical cash grab if CA hadn't done one first.

It's not having a second decent oval.

The year before we hosted the Shield final at Glenelg and there was no uproar about that.
When you compare who the premier was back then, to the premier now, it makes total sense.Sam Tugwell said on Radio that it clashed with a Port match but the SACA didn't want to make a fuss. That seems odd (when you compare it to this week)

Wetherill was a mess, Mali wants to be the hero. In many ways he's doing a great job but it's not a discussion he needed to put himself in.
