Listening to SEN yesterday for the call on the port vs tigers game, Ox was saying that JON was a liability for the richmond football club.

I feel the same thing about the kid, I know he is young, yet most players that are drafted at least show something that will convince supporters, coaching staff and fellow team mates that they will be a long term player. He to me will not play for us in the long run. He seems like a nice kid that will try his guts out to make it but reality is he is 10 steps behind everyone on the list. I dont blame the coaching staff for drafting him, in hindsight it is a hard job to pick up ad coming stars. JON looked special against juniors yet playing the real deal he dosnt seem to make the cut.

Maybe he may prove myself and a fair few other supporters wrong and I will be the first one to admit I was wrong, yet I have my doubts.

What are other thoughts?

I just think that the kid needs time still- he took so long to adjust to the pace of the game at Coburg and it will take even longer to adjust to AFL seniors. Still worth persevering with at this stage in my opinion.

JON is behind most of the other kids because he has suffered injuries, I believe this year was the first pre season he has been able to complete since moving. As it stands he has played the last 2 games while still recovering from a broken arm, which I don't think many people realise.

Given that the 2 games he has just played are the first 2 games he has played at AFL level in over 12 months and are his 8th & 9th games as well I think he has a bit of time on his side before we can stamp his file as never going to be a player. Imagine if we cut every player who didn't show something in their first couple of games, we would not have enjoyed Hughes kicking 6 goals yesterday or Moore becoming a solid player in the backline. Give the kid a chance to play 20-30 games first before you right him off.

He reminds me of an irish kid with his development. Will prob get there but take a lot of time and development. No idea why we used our no 8 pick on him. If we had just taken Clare from Brissy our list would look close to complete.

Ok i'll give him that. I'm no doctor but last time I checked the arm wasn't a part of the brain. His decision making under pressure is atrocious, in fact his decision making is atrocious period.
All I've ever seen him do is
- shank a set shot for goal vs Essendon in his first game
- show off his "prodigious skills" by requiring 2 hands and about 5 seconds to bounce a footy
- thats it...

He's taking up space for kids that aren't scared of other guys.It seems that the only way he can show off his "skills" is if he is alone on an oval with no-one in a 2km radius of him and a 10km no fly zone.
I reckon he came to us with the mindset of "I'm an aboriginal 1st round pick...I can just get settled and relax cos I'm always gonna be the one with the "potential""

His defenders always give the poignant response

"HE IS ONLY TWENTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Which means the fat girl behind the checkout at my supermarket will be a superstar for us. I hope she remembers me when she is kicking goals for the Tigers.

This talk of aboriginal kids being superior football players is probably a bit harmful. Maybe you are right that he believed his aboriginality gave him a special talent that would compensate for a lack of hard work. Maybe he was drafted so high because the club thought anyone who was half good and Aborigine would have something special. As a result, more pressure was applied. Who knows what goes on in the minds of people these days.

Obviously he was rated too highly draft time and this had put pressure on the kid, but he is worth persevering with.

Must have been a different player in the 29 jumper that tackled Burgoyne in the last quarter, got the free kick quickly moved the ball onto White who passed to Richo for our only goal of the quarter.

Must have been a different player in the 29 jumper that was offering leads in the dying minutes and when he did get possession managed to hit up a couple of targets despite being in heavy traffic at one point.

Seeing as people want to delist JON because he hasn't met expectations in his first 10 games, I fully expect threads stating that, Rance, Casserly, Collins, Putt, Gourdis and any future draft picks from this day on, are all to be delisted if they don't pick up at least 25 possessions, kick 5 goals and take 15 marks in their first few games. Otherwise the hypocrisy of some posters will be astounding.

thats exactly what i meant...so glad there are people out there to make all the words into proper sentences from my ramblings:p

but the other bit that pisses me off is that not only was he drafted too high but we drafted a player in my opinion we dont need..in the sense that i think we couldve done with another FF Cleve Hughes type

Absolutely!
I have been saying this all year on here.

HE simply has absolutely no idea what to do on an AFL field.

Delist...please

Ox should have a look at a melbourne game. The whole team is a liability.:thumbsu:

unfortunately ox is spot on, keep him in coburg and give the others a go, jon has been a disappointment for a top 10 draft. id rather see connors et al have a game.

JON had some key disposals in last qtr. He does seem to get caught a bit so he'll have to learn to just blaze away like alot of AFL players when under pressure instead of holding it that split second longer. Saw Kieran Jack in Swans/Dees game hold onto the ball for a little too long when he had no options. He was called for running too far. Both inexperienced players will learn that sometimes the best option is the long option.
Stick with him!

After having a pretty poor game, I think JON did offer something in the last quarter. Obviously Terry and the other coaching staff didn't lose all hope as the they continued to fit him in the rotation all the way up until the final siren.

Not sure whether you got to see it on TV, but JON presented really well in the last. Change of pace, direction, continuously leading which is what is needed in that type of situation. He just needs to be a bit better with his decision making so hid teammates will start honoring his leads.

Had we lost, I would think he might definitely be dropped. But should others not really deserve a place in the side next week, and considering we got a win, I wouldn't mind seeing him play against Carlton. Who knows, perhaps he might rise to the occasion...

I LOVED YESTERDAY! We beat one of last years Grand Final Teams! Oakley-Nicholls set up our final goal, Hyde laid a massive tackle to set up Cotchin's early goal, Cleve kicked 6 and best of all, Joel took a match saving grab!
GO TIGES!!!!!!!!

He just needs more games. He does make some poor decisions but i would prefer to see him back himself and stuff it up than just take the safe option all of the time. Experience is hopefully all he needs.

you do realise threads have topics yeah?

haha nah good to see an excited tiger:D:thumbsu:

What strikes me is that he is a damn sight better than the same stage last year. He has a long long way to go before he could expect to be a regular.....good luck Jon.
