I gave it a watch last night too. Opposite to Nerf I watched the Original ending with the movie then the Theatrical ending later.

I actually think both work in their own circumstances.

I might hide the next stuff as some could take it as a spoiler depending on how they take this and I'll probably end up spoiling something anyway.

But for mine. The Original ending works better if you're looking at this movie as exactly what it states at the start of the film, that it's just video footage let free from Police Archives and showing us these people's terrifying story. I like it because it is very much like the Cloverfield ending. It doesn't give you what you want, it just ends how it probably would in real life. I really admired Cloverfield for going this route especially when it was a far bigger budget and hyped movie and the ending certainly turned a lot of people off but it went the exact way they portrayed the movie as that of police archive footage being shown to the public.

That being said I think the theatrical ending is probably the right one to go with for the mainstream showings. It provides the extra jump and WTF? moment right at the end too.

While the original ending is a bit anti-climactic and drags just slightly too long, for mine it would be the better ending IF they want to portray this movie as the police archived footage, much like Cloverfield.

Either way I wasn't actually disappointed with either ending, and the other one (which I won't spoil either) would probably work out well too.

BTW Nerf
WTF is the 'manhole' scene?

Overall, good movie, some good frights, built up the tension VERY well, felt real. I wasn't as scared as some have built it up to be, but it was still a very good scary movie.

:D

The scene where they go into the cupboard or whatever, and the manhole in the ceiling, that's moved slightly. Micha says "there's something up there" and when he goes up the ladder, what is up there, is like a good metre or two from the opening of the hole and impossible for him to have seen from below.
Plus the whole, photo being from her house that burnt down, just didn't sit well with me at all. I think the manhole lid being moved would have been enough.

Nerf - Highlight to reveal (MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS) --> The part with the burnt photo was supposed to more or less confirm to the viewer that Micah's theory, about the demon that possessed the girl from the 60s being the same demon attacking Katie (the girl from the 60s having her house burnt down as well), was correct wasn't it?

I might be remembering the sequence of events wrong as well. What about it didn't sit well with you? Most of the people I've spoken to found it unsettling and clever, although I thought Katie's reaction to it was a bit wooden. It was another example of the directing team doing its research too - a lot of "real life" ghost stories talk about finding objects around the house that were thought to be long lost.

Yeah I got all that, and it further shows how it's the demon following her, and to explain to the viewer why they simply cannot just leave the house as it will follow them.
But that whole scene annoyed me, Micah 'seeing something up there', no you can't Micah. That's probably more poor script writing than anything but still.
And I don't know, you make a valid point, but when watching it, I just sat there and thought it spoiled the movie for me at that point. Maybe it's because I'm only willing to believe that bumps in the night, doors moving, etc. are all possibilities but the idea of a spirit/demon/entity being able to hide a photo from your house that burnt down like 20 years ago, and then make it appear in your roof... probably just too farfetched for me. And so the effect was lost.

So many spoilers warning. It's as if it is a secret club or something.

Gonna have to watch this now to join in on the spoiler club/white writing movement.

press quote in the post you want to read and the text will be revealed to you. Not everyone wants to know the plot/ending before seeing it.

i watched this on the other nite alone in the dark. I didnt really think it was scarey..i was actually thinking it was a bit lame through majority of it. Not much scares me! Then at the end i was more in suspense about it all... then i turned off the dvd and i was thinking about it..

i quivered

I was actually a little scared lying in bed. freaked me out.

A lot the same for me. Wasn't OVERLY scared throughout the movie, did jump a couple of time at the expected parts. But it was more thinking about it afterwards that gets the chills going, it's the type of movie that sticks in your mind and becomes more frightening the more you think of it.

Finally watched it last night.

The guy I got it off told me that people were running out of the cinemas screaming :D I didnt think it was that scary but I guess he's gotta make a living.

Very good movie and very well made. The last 20 minutes or so are sensational!

I saw the Halloween screening tonight. The original 2007 version is definitely better, there are a few things chopped, changed and/or removed I believe to keep it below an R rating. The theatrical ending was okay for the young, non-fussy type demographic but the original one has more of a lasting impact and keeps the whole "could it happen?" thing going well after you leave the theatres.

What was funny was how so many people tonight just stayed in the cinemas with thoughtful looks on their faces and having quiet discussions; I've never seen a cinema crowd like that before. Also amusing was an apparent father of three sitting in Hungry Jack's after the movie was over, with a bit of a sheepish look on his face. Looked like he was thinking he shouldn't have taken his kids to see it with him.

I have to say to everyone, I'm imploring you: make sure you watch the original 2007 version at some stage. It keeps the theme together better and has a more disturbing, realistic ending. It shows just how talented a director this Peli bloke is. Very good film overall across both cuts though, it blurs the line between fiction and reality obviously because there have been "reports" of similar occurrences in real life (not quite so severe though :p).

For the sake of me downloading a fake, could someone that has downloaded the movie please send me a pm with the real torrent. Would hate to have to download it 2-3 times. Cheers if someone can hit me up.

Am dying to see this movie.

Just got back from the screening and I can honestly say that I've never been so scared or freaked out in my life!!

Easily the scariest movie I've ever seen and I'm going to have a rough time sleeping tonight.

The ending was a big WTF!!!

Watch the 2007 edit a couple of weeks ago with a mate during the day.

Clearly doesn't have the same effect as the only part of the movie I found anything close to scary was the ending.

Finally got a chance to watch this last night and yer it was pretty creepy.

:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Lived up to its expectations, although i have only seen the cinematic ending, so I would like to see the original ending as well.
