Just heard the tragic news that Gary Ackland, one of the diehard North supporters over here in WA, passed away today.
Those who attended functions would regularly have seen him, with his three daughters who are all mad Roos fans, despite their mum being an Eagles flunkie.
At a guess, Gary would only have been about 50...he was one of the real regulars on gameday and always had a smile.
Will be sadly missed amongst the group.
RIP Gary...and condolences to his family.

The North Melbourne supporters are more than a bunch of people who support a team. It's hard to put into words, but wherever we are, we are family.

On the rare occasions I come across a fellow NMFC supporter here in Adelaide, it is never difficult to strike up a conversation with that person as if I had known them all my life. There is an unquantafiable quality that unites us and brings us together at North Melbourne.

Whenever one of us passes, even if it's not someone I personally know, it's always a sombre affair.

Yes it is true Gary passed away today, he was one of my best mates, I follow Richmond but he was a very dedicated North Melbourne man and all of you Roos supporters should be proud to know that he flew the Roos banner in WA alongside others for many years. Please think of the Ackland Family in your prayers and if there is anybody close to the Management at North, please acknowledge the Family Name at some stage during the year for the sake of the Ackland girls. RIP GECKO you were the SOMETHING SPECIAL.

Tragic news scotty. My sincerest condolences to strawb and the Ackland family. It really hits home when one of our North family passes away, particularly one so young and with so much to live for. It touches the heart!

So sorry for your loss, and I agree with the call from strawb re the club acknowledging Gary in some way. His poor family! If you manage to raise the funds, I wonder if it's too late to have a $250 paver with his name on it and a message outside the club's new facilities? Now THAT's something his daughters will be able to visit anytime. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for letting us know s'wiper. Bloody terrible news.

RIP Gary & Condolences to all his Family! I have just lost my Husband, who was a Troo Roo all his life, so know what they are going through. I went down to the Roo Shop last Friday & ordered a $250 Paver (no $500 left) so, if you are quick, it may still be possible to organise one. Cheers Blabs & Arch x

My first ever post on BF ... and it is to say RIP to Gary Ackland who I have worked with for the last two years and attended numerous North functions with here in Perth.

All the best to his family during what is a very difficult time.

We have lost one of the good ones.
