Every one says playing test cricket too early will stunt a players development or ruin them some how.

I'd like to know why. I don't see a reason for it.

We don't have a bowler who can swing the ball and bowl with accuracy, smarts and a full length. We haven't had a bowler who can swing it both ways for years. This guy will make his test debut within 2 years. Book mark it.

He's not ready for the big time yet but he will get there. As long as he's not bowled into the ground.

Maybe if he gets in the Aussie team Cooley will teach him to bowl too short and stop him swinging it. Might wanna hold him back a bit.

But he is the academy and A team coach which is where Cummins will be for most of the next 6 months.

give him another 4 years in first class cricket. before we consider him for australian selection. he is only 17 and throwing him into the national team right now would be stupid and it would stunt his development

Exactly mate, and it's one of the more sensible rules in club and district cricket. Too many promising young quicks get stress fractures in legs or back problems because they bowl too quick for too long before their body has grown fully.

Shouldn't even be considered as a frontline test bowler for 2-4 years, when he will have developed.

Wouldn't hurt to get him into the 20/20 mix to give him a taste though.

Sounds like a good prospect.

I much preferred when it was a recommendation rather than a rule. I think it severely limits some teams and stunts development in some situations - in other situations it's warranted. It's not and should not be just a blanket application and I think this just highlights the point.

4 years is far to long these days so have someone standing around waiting to play cause he still needs development.

as far as im concerned if next season he dominates like phil hughes and earns his spot then they should play him.

Sounds like a maverick to me, we can't have that. Don't worry Cooley will soon stop all that sort of seam upright/swinging the ball nonsense.

I really think they should just keep him away from the Aus set-up for a couple of years at least.

I'd prefer that, hopefully by that time, Clarke, Johnson and Watson are gone.

Well, Johnson at least. You would hope in a couple of years there are some prospects who can exert more control over what they do and have better brains.

Our current lot of test bowlers seem to be so dumb.

Extremely exciting prospect. Seen a bit of him; heard stuff from Shield players who have faced him. He's the real deal and the most exciting fast bowling prospect for quite some time.

He does. I was at the Gabba in a T20 Qld vs NSW game earlier this year. Chris Simpson had been trying wild slogs outside offstump from the start, and not connecting at all. Come the final ball of the over, Cummins fired in a fast yorker, cleaned up base of middle stump.

Citing the Amir example, arent Pakistan (and other subcontinental nations) the master of wonderkid 17-20 year olds who no one hears of again after 5 years?

Much rather give him a few years and then get a good 10+ years out of him when he's fit an ready.

Old Keeper Wally Grout used to play injured with the attitude never to never give a sucker an even break. Poor Hazelwood might have done this. Cummins just may have jumped the que.

The fact he maintained his pace until late Saturday for a 17 year old bowling a lot was impressive.

He kept on going, running in and was luckless, anyone watching t5he game knows that he showed one of his senior bowlers up for maintaining the commitment through a day.
