Coach Patch is ... stepping away to pursue other opportunities at the end of 2025

Looking forward to the next 6 weeks, I won’t have said that last week
I was literally about to post the same.
I can't see Patch getting the gig, but hopefully he gets them playing some entertaining footy.

Whether for us, or a future club down the line, Patch will be using these next six weeks as an audition for a senior spot. He will be wanting to win more than anybody and I have a strong feeling that he'll succeed.

It could be a really exciting six weeks if he fulfils his promise to play attacking football. This Richmond game is the most excited I've been to go to the football since Round One.

He was a good little player, our Patch. Really unfair end to the career when you think about it. Deserved better.

He has a lot to make up for. Getting done like that... :stern look

Needless to say I was a huge Patch fan and was devastated his career finished the way it did. I was/am thrilled to see him back at the club. I think we are in good hands for the next 6 weeks. I will be watching with great interest.

Should be pointed out that the match committee hasn't changed, other than Noble out/Adams in.

I wouldn't expect significant changes to the squad.
You’re saying Noble wasn’t solely for team selection the past 38 games 😯

Blasphemy you heretic and please keep this as quiet as you can otherwise the masses on the Bye Bye Nobles thread will be wanting to lynch you and the entire selection committee 😱

I’ve met Patch several times as a player after games and at club functions very personable guy. Played as tough as they come and if he is willing to hold the players to his standards I won’t be surprised to hear more sooking in the media and some interesting outs. I’m really looking forward to what he can bring as a game day coach 😀

These coaches don't walk in with no advice. Plenty of smart footy heads provide guidance but due to soft caps don't get paid or acknowledged. Do it for the love of club and game. Expect the advice to be go long, offence everyone, happy shoots at goal, stuff hitting up Larkey. Noble made a good tactical switch against the dee's and othe teams followed and did it better, they started losing games. Chip around to avoid their zone defence. Other teams worked it out as it was obvious what we were doing and the team is just not mature enough to switch gameday tactics. Laidley last coach who could effectively switch a plan, players mid game. This week will be played on the feel of the game and forget a plan. Gun kids wil feel like they have the freedom of under 18s to dominate and do what they want. Screw the long term game plan. Will be competitive for a week at least. JHF will have his best game as he will be instructed to do whatever the hell you want champ 😉

"Move the footy a bit quicker, play more of a forward half game, few little tweaks here and there to help us score more and defend a bit better."

😍😍😍

Won't be huge changes but sounds like he has some ideas to shift things a bit pretty quickly.
In two videos he’s pretty much said , We all think Noble had NFI, so we going back to playing footy for fun and we’re going to try an score.”

Zurhaar should sign any day now! (No ITK, just know he wants to kick goals!)

We need to reunite Patch with Judd on the infamous chicken-wing spot on the ground, get them to do an interview.
Why? Unless he knocks the grub out I couldn’t be less interested

Correct. But zurhaar will wait for the senior coach appointment and I don’t blame him

Gee, I'm already tired of hearing "the game plan doesn't need an overhaul, just a few small tweaks.."

WTF?? Our game plan is dog shit. We've lost 14 straight, and had to longest losing streak in the history of the game of 47 points or more.
If ever there a time to try something new and experiment, it's these next 6 weeks.

Proper game plans take entire pre-seasons to work out and implement & practice on the track drilling it into every player as a coherent team effort plus individual roles and then needs to be A-B tested with opposition in pre-season games before it’s given a seasons worth of use with tweaks along the way.

For a man who’s not guaranteed the position he’s better off taking whatever gameplan there was and tweaking it, trust in Patch to turn it into a more attacking style of footy. If you’ve seen how he coaches VFL for North or Coburg he emphasises fundamentals and attacking forward footy.

This is a brilliant appointment.

I have been lucky enough to observe first hand his excellent communication and relationships with young footballers and his undeniable knowledge of the game. Would not surprise me to see him land a senior gig one day.
Do I win anything?

Seriously though, stoked for a guy who has got every last bit out of his mind and body. Go Patch!

With the appointment of Leigh Adams as interim coach of North Melbourne’s AFL side, a former player will be taking charge of the Kangaroos’ senior side for the first time since Darren Crocker’s caretaker spell in 2016.

Drafted to the club with the third selection of the 2007 rookie draft, Adams played 104 games for the club before concussion and injury forced him into an early retirement. Since then he’s been earning his coaching stripes at both local and VFL level.

Primarily utilised as a gritty and combative inside midfielder during his playing days, Adams knows what it takes to represent this club with pride, and he says he’s keen to implement some of those learning into the playing group over the coming weeks.

“North Melbourne people want to see effort in the contest and pressure around the footy … I think being brought up at Arden Street [that’s] all you can do for your fans,” Adams told North Media.

“That’s what we’ll hopefully see. Our boys giving effort in 100 per cent of the game … and kicking goals off the back of really good pressure and contest.

“Will we see periods where that doesn’t happen? Yeah, we will, because our list is young and we’re going to try and get some games into some kids in the back half of the year.

“I’m hoping there’s going to be some long periods of the game where you can see a North Melbourne brand that our supporters can be really proud of in the last six weeks.”

If Adams’ appointment to the role of senior coach represents anything among the playing group, it’s a testament to the longevity of Todd Goldstein’s playing career.

Goldstein was selected with the 37th pick in the 2006 national draft. Although Adams was later taken in the rookie draft, the pair were part of the same class of 18-year-old AFL hopefuls.

The veteran ruck isn't the only remaining player from Adams' playing days, but the new coach says he’s not phased by the prospect of coaching his former teammates.

“It’s going to be very interesting, me and ‘Goldy’. I’ve been retired for seven years and he’s still going so it’s amazing how it ended up like that,” Adams said.

“I think I played with four or five of the boys who are still here. Jack Ziebell, ‘Cunners’ (Ben Cunnington) who obviously won’t be out there, Kayne Turner, Luke McDonald. It’s going to be interesting coaching them.

“I’ve had a little bit of experience coaching boys that are older than me before at suburban and VFL level and I’ve been here long enough to coach them throughout the week. It’ll just be a little bit different on gameday."
