Got the Rising Star nom this week after bursting onto the scene. Kid is an absolute beast. Runs all day, smart with the footy, good size, racks it up, etc.

He’s too good for the wing and I imagine he will end up becoming a premium inside midfielder. There are shades of Bontempelli with the way he moves.

How do Geelong keep plucking elite level talent out of nowhere? Stoked we have a future bonafide star on our hands for pick 99.

Happy for the guy. Showed some ability last year but was not going to get a game here.
Glad he got an opportunity elsewhere and is taking it with both hands.

Geez I'm glad the OP didn't go overboard :straining:

Promising signs so far, think we have found one of our wingman for the next decade. Looking like a great bit of business by Hartley at this stage. Sometimes all a player needs is an opportunity....

Always felt of the last remaining spuds (Knevitt, Stevens, Wiltshire), Retschko was the most likely to make the grade. He was very physical and with good size. Good gut running capacity too.

Agree regarding the position he plays would have been really difficult to replace with Holmes, Smith , Dempsey in these positions but what i thought was strange was drafting holmes after delisting Retschko for the above reasons

We don't delist guys we rate because we've got depth in that position. We delisted him because we didn't rate him.

We picked up Holmes and Barker because we think there's some chance of them becoming very good AFL players and we didn't see that with Retschko.

The question is whether he's a Jamaine Jones, Quinton Narkle, Josh Walker type who played some decent footy elsewhere but were extremely limited. Or has geelong made a genuine blunder.

Weird for OP to praise Geelong for "finding" Retschko when they delisted him. He was such a good find they didn't want him on their list.

It's like crediting Richmond if Shaun Mannagh has a good game.

Very good post and totally get that

Then it begs the question what the club see's in Jhye Clarke ? that nobody else has seen in his 4th season now

If you're serious about wanting to know then go and watch the prelim final from last year or the last quarter against Adelaide this year.

He's obviously been extremely disappointing for a high pick and could easily end up a complete bust. But if you can't see the attributes he has then you're just not watching.

I have watched him enough

Yeah but you're also convinced Tom Brown is a quality player and he just needs to get to 50 games. 5 seasons in and you haven't seen enough of him yet.

I reckon if you're honest with yourself you'd probably pick the guy selected in a GF in his 3rd season over the guy being dropped from a bottom 2 team in his 5th season.

But maybe you're just a much better judge of talent than either the Geelong or Richmond coaching staff. Or maybe what's most likely is they both end up busts.

LOl we had players selected in a winning premiership team that were barely VFL quality
Caddy , Pickett , Castagna etc so his being selected is no great feat

But hey if you are happy with him thats great but im backing Brown that was pick #17 to have a better career than Clarke #8 do you disagree with that ? if yes then im happy to have a little something something on that

* And they are a year apart so Clarke is in his 4th season not 3rd
