Next year is the last year that the veterans allowance is still in existance. That means 140Kish of Pav's contract isnt included in the salary cap. If Pav is choosing between a 250K offer to be a commentator for Channel 7 (just an estimate) or 400K contract (260K on salry cap only) from us to play one more year, then if he is still contributing in season 2015 I think he might yet to play on in 2016. It all depends on his form and condidence at the end of the season.

I don't think money would be much of an issue for him. He could take 5 years off and still be very, very wealthy. He could commentate for channel 7 for 50 years, I doubt it would make any difference to him whether he starts in 2016 or 2017 or 2020. I doubt his playing longevity would be influenced by anything but his fitness and desire to play.

What does Mrs Pav say ?.

Is Pav sick of having to turn up to Rosscoes bbq's ?.

Does Pav Jnr need some help honing his ball skills ?.

If Pav can average 2 goals a game this season and teams well with the mosquito fleet, I'd be open to him playing another season, but I also hate seeing champions dribble over the end of their career.

Fyfe doesn't have to play as a permanent CHF to be a dominant forward. he can just play between CHB and CHF like a ruckman does, and start the bounces in the middle. He's already our best outlet after Sandilands for kicking out from opposition goals, you don't really want to lose that either. He's already basically playing the role that a CHF plays.

Mixed feelings on this one. Pav is in good shape, and probably still be good enough to be in our best 22 in 2016.
However, at his age, he is probably one injury away from retirement. I'll rather he go out on his on terms than have it forced upon him like the way jonathon brown did.

One player who has earned the right to call it quits.

Hope he doesn't do a Muhammad Ali and go on too long.

See his work along the grandstand wing tonight in the third quarter, kept his feet against two defenders, won the ball and then kicked it to Mayne who, in contrast, went to ground like a shot buffalo. We won't see his like at the club again for a long time.
But he is gone people, I'm surprised he decided to play on this year but this is definitely his last. They were announcing his testimonial dinner at the ground tonight for goodness sake. I just want to see him go out with dignity.

Highlight of the day for me along with Walters trapping the ball on the wing, turning cat-like and almost without looking hitting Pav on the tit with an outside of the foot pass. Both were great passages of individual brilliance.

The good thing about the Walters dummy was that he spun to his right, which completely fooled his opponent who expected him to go on to his left. Nick Suban, please take note!

I think retiring early because you might be forced to retire at a later date is kind of self-defeating.

I'd rather Pav play as many games as he possibly can.

Pav looked sensational yesterday. Sure he isn't as pacy as he once was but he probably moves a lot better than the likes of a Hawkins and has better footy smarts than a Tippett. As long as he can remain healthy, his footy smarts and direction out on the field to our other up and coming forwards will be invaluable.

Yep it was very noticeable.

The guy had Walters covered on the left.Walters didn't even look, just took possession and went right.

So good

When was this? I want to refresh my memory.

So you have already demonstrated that you were willing to call a premature end to his career last year.

Yep, and McPharlin too
We'll see if its premature come round 22. Makes me a shocking supporter doesn't it? Telling it like I predict it - that whilst they may turn back father time and set the world on fire, it is more likely both will pull up lame at some stage of the season. I mean I obviously really don't rate either of them.

By the end of the season we'll have 12 players 29+ (Sylvia, Crowley, Mcpharlin, Duffield, Griffen, Pearce, Sandi, Johnson, Pav, Mzungu, Dawson, Mundy) I think 4 of those have to go at the end of the year to keep our team in the right age bracket.

To me Pav still offered more than a fair few of them (bolded) in 2014 but he's probably at the age where one injury and it could be the end. I think the call should be made later in the year.

How many seasons ago do you think Harvey, Goodes or Fletcher should have been axed?

Where did I say he should have been axed? You don't axe a guy like Pavlich
As for the guys you quoted, all greats of the modern game. But no greater than, for example, Voss, Jakovich, Tredrea, McLeod, Crawford, Kelly or Brown who were a few of my favourites of the modern game that retired at the same age as Pav or younger
