Getting really hard to follow this channel and take their stuff seriously anymore when they come up with absolute bullshit like this. They have the most cutting edge hardware on hand and this is blatantly wrong and misinformation. Steve's anti-NVIDIA crusade is getting pretty cringe at this point and of course you can't reply to them with anything contrary because they share your reply to ridicule you and for their egang to bully you.

30fps? Please. Yes, it's taxing on current hardware but it's a next gen title. Control was released at the end of the last console cycle with RT features that were only available on the new RTX2000 cards that were available at the time. It's not unoptimised. I've managed a constantly 50-65 fps with med-high settings with max RT, disabling path tracing and DLSS quality. Because it's single player I don't see the downside of frame generation and it has drastically improved my experience. Sure, with a 4080 and 5900x I know I'm still in a small percentage of gamer but turning down to low-med settings is still better looking and performs better than console. I'm sure he's on a 4090 rig with a 7800x3d or 13900k or something so this 30fps comment is absolute garbage.

A scene with heavy RT shadows and reflections as well as very taxing volumetric fog, DLSS quality and the FPS counter at 123 (photo for proof as it doesn't show in screen shots). That's with frame gen and it's not quite exactly x2 frames so my real FPS here would be about 65-70. Poor Steve.

I'm spamming now but I'm allowed to 😄

Now I get it. I know HUB have loved to take digs at DF. DF like the tech and released an optimised performance settings guide over night so HUB had a cry. Steve hates upscaling and has never hid the fact. So if he's refusing to run an upscaler and wants to instead cry about performance then that's a him problem.

Looking at building a decent pc probably in the next year. What price range would I be looking at? I’d like to run a game like red dead 2 on ultra at 60fps.

What resolution? Just a tower and don't need things like a monitor and peripherals too? RDR2 probably isn't the most demanding benchmark these days. You could slap something together with a budget of $2k with change to spare.

Probably 4K mate. My main tv is 4K 75 inch. I wouldn’t mind setting it up kind of like a console so you can just turn it on and scroll the steam menu for games.

A side note - Do you know if you can connect a ps5 controller to a pc and it pretty much performs the same on pc?

Firstly the PS5 controller can be paired with any PC via Bluetooth.

Secondly a 4K machine even for RDR2 is going to take some more juice. I'd probably need to go check out some benchmarks to confirm but I'd take a stab you would be looking at a budget about $2.5k. Guessing something like an RTX4070 or RX7800 which are going to set you back nearly $1k alone. If a 4060ti can manage RDR2 ultra 4k at a consistent 60fps then you'd save a few hundred but I'd have to go look up some benchmarks to be sure.

Also you could turn it into a console like Steam machine using Steam OS but it's not compatible with all hardware. Setting up Steam OS or a Windows shell that boots into Steam is a bit more of an expert feature to setup too. In regards to ease of updates like software and drivers as well as general ease of use then I'd probably still recommend a standard Windows install and have Steam open on startup. Then if you click steam's Big Picture mode you can operate it like a console OS.

No idea 😆 sounds expensive but it's a threadripper. I only know value in the gamey stuff. Is this for your pron server?

Yes

But mainly like, isn't the next gen of threadripper like the 6xxx series?

I mean, you could use it for gaming..

I guess.

Guess who scored 96TB of storage for $400

Is there a major step up from PS5 graphics to a gaming pc?

Depends on the game and obviously the specs of the PC. However what you will get from a mid range PC is typically better performance. Take Alan Wake 2. Digital Foundry did a test where they built a test rig close to the specs of a PS5, did their best to match the settings and achieved about double the performance.

In the area as the missus and I made the trek to Ikea, and seeing as it was down the road and haven't been in a few years, walked into Scorptec Clayton and was like

Refur looks good but from memory that had a heap more on display beforehand?

Was in there looking for some monitors for reference but didn't see anything that I was really keen on.

I haven’t seen the revamped Clayton store since it was renovated, how was it?

Did they have the Philips Envia ultrawide OLED there? I haven’t seen one in the flesh but they look impressive from what I’ve seen (not that I can afford to drop $1K+ on a monitor and my current one is doing the job)

I've only seen the photos of their refurbishment on their socials and it looked like a nightclub lol.

They've never had much meaningful on display though. I've always used larger JBs to compare screen sizes and similar models even if they don't have the exact one I've wanted just to get an idea of looks and build quality.

As per my gif and dwwaino 's comment, could easily pass for a nightclub haha. It's not really a showroom any more just a couple of 32 inch Gigabytes on (don't think they had the PE UW can't confirm tho mate). Dunno why they refurbed it to the level they did when it seems like it's just a pickup and service desk now.

Went down the road to Centrecom, and they had some stuff plugged in and ironically had my current AOC 34UW next to an Odyssey G8. Def had me considering making a switch sooner rather than later. (Understandably input isn't a true reflection but wow)

With that said, I've spent a fair bit of today looking online at the G9 57inch SUW. MiniLED and not OLED. While not many cards can make use of the 240hz (and really who needs more than 140hz?) worried for gaming that my 3080ti even downscaled to 1440p might look shit.

Wondering if I future proof now with the view to upgrading in 3 years.

I'll def be using the real estate for work during my 2 work from home days. Plus the ability to have two inputs is an attractive feature as well.

While never having kids still have a long way to go on the mortgage - even with Samsung trade in and hopeful loyalty discount - it's still 2.3k at best.
