Does anyone here know of a good place to sell my second hand PC parts? I thinking of trying to sell my CPU, RAM and Motherboard together as one sale. I could throw it on FB marketplace but I hate how people always ghost you.

I recently sold a refurb of my old system on marketplace and it was a horrible experience. I ended up taking it down after a while just to wonder what I'd do with it and eventually I re-listed it for much less than I wanted to but found a legitimate and really cool dude who wanted to buy it. You're selling individual parts so might have better luck, but after my recent experience if I were to do it again I'd just put the graphics card on marketplace or ebay and throw the rest in the bin.

Yeah I can't imagine the CPU, mobo and ram is worth that much but I hate throwing shit away. I'll probably just list it at fire sale prices just so it gets recycled.

I have an eBay account that I use to use for selling a lot but ditched it because the fees suck arse.

3070 should still be worth a couple of hundred bucks.

Potentially having new computer issues. It's weird I've thrashed it around the last few weeks (Friday night, most of Saturday, most of Sunday). No BSOD or need to hard reset while in front of the system playing games etc...

However I've had a few instances when something gone awry when I've been afk. And I'm not sure (clutching at straws here) if the "playing conditions" cause it :-/.

I've returned to the pc a few times after letting various games run on auto pilot... but when I return and turn the monitor back on. The pc has restarted and I'm now greeted with the start up splash screen and loading into windows etc.

I'm yet to see the reset happen as I'm playing any game physically. So I haven't been able to replicate it nor discover its root cause. I'm wary about the ssd stuff over the week and a bit as well.

It's technically only happened 3 times (latest this morning), but I think more than once is too often. I'd love to catch it in the act as it shuts down/restarts (if that?). Every time I've come back to it, switched the monitor back on, then see the motherboard logo/windows loading circle appear. Perhaps I need to either setup a recording camera and/or turn the monitor on/off like a nutter to see if it happens again.

Could be a power setting. Even though a game is running I don't know if it's detecting a lack of input. Especially if it's detecting the display is off.

I've read it could be many things - psu issues, ssd, gpu, ram and motherboard (yes that really narrows it down lol). Some hints I've read online say to check the event logs and other monitoring programs that might hint at the exact thing that's failed (evne the cpu).

I sold an rx6700 for a few hundred on marketplace in a matter of hours. been trying to sell a CPU cooler (unused) and that's a lot harder (anyone want to buy a noctua nh-u12s chromax black?)

I just chucked the rest of the old PC out...cpu, mobo, ram etc was 12-13 years old. Took the ssd's out to keep for now

I sold my old 10 year old PC with monitor on eBay. Got $650 for it which was more than I expected. Was pretty happy when a teenager and his dad came over to pick it up. I feel like it's gone to a good home.

My even older PC I put out for verge collection. It didn't work and I took the hard drives out to be safe, and it still vanished in a couple of hours haha

Did you meet up or post the 6700? My issues trying to sell I think stemmed from the system having a 4080 which is all anyone was interested in. Despite putting about $500 of new parts in I had to end up selling pretty much at the value of the card plus a token amount. Got $1800 in the end which is well unders for a 4080, 5900x and 32gb RAM but I couldn't move it for anything more. Now that I've got the 5090 and I've packed the 5080 up in its original box and kept the shipping box and air padding from the 5090 and will just put the 5080 on eBay I think and cop the fees. That way it's final and no risk of getting stabbed.

Sold the GPU in person, only a few mins from home. Met up in a public carpark. CPU I'm thinking might have to use eBay or just go super cheap even though it's essentially brand new $150 cooler haha

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Doesn't really say much else. However it's got a bunch of logs from before I even took possession of the system.

The logs from event viewer can show a lot. Look for what’s causing the shutdowns.

I’ve had to do it in the last week on a new work laptop.

Google determined that the error causing the shutdown was likely caused by a particular windows update - removing the update seems to have fixed the issue.

Motherboard doesn't detect it despite the specifications showing that it is supported grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Tried another spare ssd - worked straight away
Put the original ssd back in and it booted straight away.

Put the newly purchased ssd into my ps5 and it worked straight away

If I had a second PS5 I'd just whack the newly purchased ssd in that and keep it permanently. But I'm not sure on the next steps to take.

Did you format it to MBR or GPT first (preferably GPT)? I'm not sure if cloning does this automatically. When you install Windows to a fresh drive it will usually automatically format to GPT, but any subsequent drives you have to manually do through disk management before it is recognised in explorer.

Everybody is different but these sorts of issues terrify me (PCs aren't exactly pocket change) so I always pay extra for someone to build it for me (PLE) so if something doesn't work it's on them.

I then spend my time wrestling with software issues instead of both software AND hardware

Probably easier to just scrap the clone idea and start from scratch unless you've got some really convoluted Windows setup, fresh installs are always worth it and may resolve the issue.

One thing though........ the drive you're trying to clone isn't Bitlockered is it?

First thing I made sure of before I started teh whole process, the drive hasn't got Bitlocker protection. The laptop that I cloned last year had it and I remembered to check for it before engaging with the process.

I'm thinking it's just a motherboard/ssd compatibility issue - a quick google shows that it's a possibility. I've seated and re-seated the new ssd many times. SSD doesn't appear in the bios.
I installed it in the ps5 and it appears to be working.
It was also working as an external drive via an enclosure.

Wouldn't think it would be this complicated, I've done the same process on various laptops the past few years. Clone the Windows SSD onto a higher capacity ssd, then install the new ssd as the new main Windows drive.

And yeah I get a bit antsy inserting/pulling out from the motherboard... too much force and I could break multiple things haha.

My mate replaced an SSD in a brand new build recently, similar to you, and I think the silly bastard fried his PC with static electricity because he killed the motherboard and I believe the CPU too.

It was somehow covered by warranty, but he did have to send it back over east to be assessed and parts replaced. He was lucky and it's all working now, but **** me. I also always buy local because of this too. Again, I have to pay more because PLE have no real competition in Perth, but yeah. Terrifying.

I also always buy local because of this too. Again, I have to pay more because PLE have no real competition in Perth, but yeah. Terrifying.

Haven't gone too far into the danger zone yet lol, being ultra careful when I open the pc up. As far as I can tell it's just a motherboard/ssd brand compatibility issue. Even though it's listed as compatible on the compatibility website. I've read that even though mobo manufacturers list various compatible components.... sometimes certain things just refuse to talk to each other and work.

The original ssd detects and loads straight away, as do other ssds that I've cloned the ssd on board chucked in.

Unsure what to do, I did order the ssd from Amazon, even though it's unfit for the purpose I got it for.... (assuming I really can't get it to fire up) do I keep it for an alternate use, or just refund it ??

Another thing to try (if you haven't already) would be a BIOS update on the motherboard, otherwise the Amazon return policy is pretty good.

I think camming with ChatGPT while it gives out instructions in real time could be a good way to do it safe. I was rusty building my new PC, recently, haven't built one in years, it was really helpful giving me instructions on where to connect each part.

That's wild. I've read the odd instance of causing damage with static but no one I've known and assumed it was pretty rare. I've always taken the basic precautions of not building on carpet, and when I do build I build in my kitchen/dining area where I can occasionally grab a tap to ground myself. Also if you need to open up the case to do any replacement, then if you have the room then leave it plugged in (obviously turn off the PSU though) because this leaves the entire case earthed and you'll be constantly touching the case and stuff as well.
