What the? This was just reported by Scottie(herald sun) on the footy, said that is the story in Perth Newspapers. Seems Essendon have sounded him out, and still think he is a quality pick up. Do yuo think there is any credibility in this, and would we trade him, what for. If it is true, it is hard to fathom a club champ playing in the red and black, but it may be the best thing for the club in the long run, Roo won't last too much longer, and we may get a pretty good player, like barnard in return. Still, I don't think I could handle seeing Roo in the Red and Black!

I hope its not true, it would be tragic for a player of such historic importance to the club to have finished his career at another club. He isn't just an eagles player, he is an eagle!!(i sound too damn patriotic).

If it is true, than there is something wrong at WC. There has been talk that wirra would get traded, Jako is being pushed into retirement and now roo is being traded. All three are club vice-captains!!!!! All three should be considered indespensible and any internal bickering should be resolved out of the public eye!!!

It has to be rubbish!!!

Look, Roo may be paid $300K by WCE but it only costs us $150K of the cap as he is a vet. But to Essendon it would cost the full $300K. Now the Bombers have serious salary cap problems. They will be looking to trade a high salary player or two for top picks. They can't afford to pick up a high salary one year player.

The only deals I can see on the cards to date are Morrisson to pies and Scotty to cats.

Rubbish! For starters there is no way Matera would want to leave, some older guys who havent had success look for trades like this but Matera has been to the top of the hill twice so its not for any silly reason like that. He is an Eagle through and through and Essendon are not dumb enough to trade for a player who we all know only has one or two years at most left in him.

Rubbish...and it certainly wouldnt be a crowd pleaser. I for one have some loyalty and i think the club will show that loyalty to Matera and he will finish his career where he started it.

I had to read the article a few times, to make sure it wasn't PHIL Matera! Sheedy would be taking a huge risk to get Peter Matera to play another 1 or 2 years of good footy due to his injuries. If he does go over for the money, the Eagles would be able to get a good player back in return (maybe Barnard?)

Well if he does go, hopefully Essendon give us Rioli in return. I hope he doesn't go though, seems a bit of a weird way to end your career!

Peter Matera has done so much for this club over the years maybe it is the final thing that he does for the club, giving himself up so the club gets a quality younger player.

But i seriously doubt its true, and i would hate to see Peter Matera in another guernsey. Personally, i would much rather see the great man stay at the club, even if we could get Dean Rioli.

Wouldnt that be awesome if he did that !!! Id never stop laughing, can you imagine the look on Sheedy's face :D

He wont go though, too loyal. He could have jumped ship years ago as he knew we wouldnt be good enough to get another premiership in his time but he didnt so there is no reason why he would now.

That'd really be sticking it to Sheedy for his past actions. Remember how Tim Watson was drafted by the Eagles, told everyone he'd never play footy again, and then got redrafted by the Bombers and played in a premiership?

If Essendon get Matera there should be a royal commission - into Essendon's player payments and West Coast's football department
