Peaking too soon

In four finals over 2022 and 2023, yeah.

And what's nuts about that is that in every single one of those finals, they won the i50 count.

Against Collingwood in 2023, they had 69 i50s to 37. You should never, ever lose with that. Then, the next week, they kicked 9.17 to Carlton's 11.7.
23 was the missed opportunity

It was horrible goal kicking I mean the game v Carlton it was 9.17 to 11.7

I think we are all waiting for Freo to drop off. i just cant see them winning at the MCG on GF Day. especially against VIC opposition. If they get Sydney, they are a chance.

But are the Vic teams in contention "strong Vic teams" though? That's the question. There aren't any "Richmond dynasty teams" in terms of Victorian teams.

It may come down to "one the day" if Freo make the Grand Final at the MCG and are playing a Victorian team. You couldn't completely rule out Freo at the MCG on Grand Final day against a Victorian team.

They are not but little did the crows know before the 2017 GF was that Richmond were really up against it. Massive advantage on GF day for interstate clubs. especially for SA/WA sides who dont get the leg up that the Northern states get.

Much better to have the wins on the board than not, then you can manage your list through to the finals.

Geelong were the best team all year in 2022, and got the job done.

Collingwood got the wins in the bank early in 2023, looked to be faltering late in the home and away season, but still got it done when it counted.

You reference Collingwood 2025 and Sydney 2024, but the former were still right there when the whips were cracking late in a Preliminary Final against the eventual premiers, whilst Sydney still made it to the Grand Final.

For every Brisbane 2024 who surge late, finish 5th, and win 4 straight finals to win the flag, there are 50 similarly placed teams who don't even make it as far as a Preliminary Final.

The wheels fell off Collingwood from rd 18 last year. Became a disastrous month and you then got lucky in playing a side who chocked in September. The Crows were equally disastrous come September.

Richmond 2018 comes to mind from my end. Still haven't recovered from that lanky, tall American pr1ck marking like Royce Hart and Carey combined. An obscene amount of contested marks were taken.

sidenote: the 2008 GF was magnificent!

But Richmond well and truly made up for 2018 by winning the Premiership in 2019 and 2020 because Finals footy is when it truly matters - not Home & Away footy.

Perth teams don't get the luxury of playing an away prelim at their home ground, so they have to peak all year unfortunately.

Yes they do...if the other Optus Stadium tennant makes the Prelim Final as well. It just hasn't happened yet.

I think Sydney would be their preferred opponent, but until they do drop off I certainly won’t be writing them off

Maybe you are but not me.
Fremantle will win a premiership (or two) with this current list. The only area of concern is they do not have a bonafide star backman. They do have them emerging in the WAFL and perhaps in the coming 18 months, one of those becomes an A grader but for the short-term, that is where they are vulnerable.

Their midfield and forward line is vastly superior to Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney. The only teams who can match them in that area (as well as down back) are Brisbane & Gold Coast.

Sydney are pretenders. Too many 'soft' players who will shit their dacks at the pointy end of the season.

True, but they do get the luxury of a genuine home final if they earn it all the way upto the GF. Vic teams just get a final in Victoria, which means the higher ranked team may be playing away (sort of) sometimes.

For what it’s worth I think you will relish MCG games for the most part. You move the ball well and can use the wide space as well as anyone.

it's Freo year to win it & good luck to them..... but if they make all us neutrals get on their Purple Wagon and belly flop it then may they be laughed at forever & ever.

Sitting on top of the ladder all year isn't a guarantee to win the flag. But it sure does enhance your chances. The fact is more times than not the premier has been entrenched in the top 4 for a large chunk of the year.

Only 1 team wins it every year and those teams moving amongst those top 4 spots for most the year are the most likely to do it.

Everyone or just a few like yourself?

And so by dropping off ,you mean that to include winning enough games from here on in to make the GF but losing it?.. especially if that opponent is a Victorian side??

….wow that’s some real open parameters your’ve put in place there to ….I can only assume to ,🤞confirm your original comment above ?

31 years in the comp and no flag. we all have the right to think what we think of Freo

I was looking back at the season.

Absolute heart-attack areas for your mob re margins

+5 v suns, -4 v port, -7 v dockers, +2 v pies, -2 v giants, +1 v lions, +4 v crows, -4 v carlton in regular season, and with superior percentage needed only 1 more win to finish second.

Then finals -7 v pies, -2 v carlton

We also started slowly in the Qualifying Final vs 4th-placed West Coast and Hawthorn pushed us in the prelim 2 weeks later
Pushed? We probably should have won. Were the better team until the last quarter. Didn't make the most of our ascendancy and kept the margin manageable that you blokes could reel us in with 3-4 goals which is what happened.

Yes according to this, vast majority flags won from positions 1-3. Interesting nil from 4th

For sure ,think away

But that wasn’t what I was asking nor implying.

Who rates who and by how much will have no effect on the actual outcomes so it’s ok buddy ,no need to get aggrieved over such trivial matters

Grounded and humble post.

Good luck to Freo. Most neutrals would welcome them winning it…I think.
