I don't pretend to know better than neeld and co, but can someone who has been down to training this year work out why we effectively traded Martin and gysberts for pedo and some 3 round picks?? Has he looked like his worth it at training seeing as Martin an pedo play the same role ..

Doesn't look that good to me, but I'll give him a chance after hearing Martin had shocking work rate.

Haven't been to training so I can't comment, but from what I've seen in previous years Pedersen is a far better forward with a higher work rate. He isn't as tall as Martin (is he?) so he may struggle a bit more if he pinch hits in the ruck, but clearly the FD didn't rate Martin so they moved him on.

Pederson is said to have one of the best work ethics. Martin was often said to be uninspiring in the track. As did Gysberts from what I've heard and seen.

Neeld is rebuilding the MFC in his vision. We Are developing g a hard working, blue collar culture. Pedo may not be as talented as these two guys but his worth to the team is huge. Id like to see him in the red and blue and see what we've got but down at training I was happy with what I saw.

It's not just about individual talent, as much as what role they can play for the team to be succesful. Martin played his best footy as a follower/1st ruckman, but struggled as a forward/2nd ruckman. Pederson is more of a mobile key position player who can pich hit in the ruck. As mentioned above, Clark can also play this role.

I'm not sure why people are bemoaning the players that left the club. We've been sh#t for a reason, and Neeld has weeded out those that he doesn't believe will buy into how he wants us to play. If these players are successful at other clubs, so be it.

Martin was a better talent and better athletically. However he doesn't fit the role, becuase he can't play 3rd tall and does not have the footy smarts to play forward or back. I still think Martin is a better ruckman than Spencer, but one thing that he can't do is ruck the whole game on his own like Spencer.

If you look at it from a needs point of view and a role point of view, Pederson is clearly better fit for us. Not to say that he will not star up at Brisbane as a decoy for Jono Brown.

Also let's not forget that Martin had a string of good games as number 1 ruck in 2011 (and kicked an ugly first goal against Freo in 2012 winning me $160 odd) and didn't do anything else of worth his entire career with us.

I didn't think Clark was worth the trade last year, but boy was I wrong. So I trust their opinion a lot more than mine.......until they stuff up

Just scanned the thread but have picked up the common theme in the responses seems to be that Pederson is the better fit for us (for numerous reasons).

I agree it really is as simple as that. SME is an athletic marvel and can play some really good footy. But he is 95% a ruckman and not much else. He's also not the greatest 'team player', and really prone to brain fades.

Assuming Neeld has decided Jamar will remain our first choice ruck, then Peddo is the better option. If Stef thrives at Brisbane it will not be proof that letting him go was a mistake!

Pedo is better than Martin at touching kids.

But seriously - let him playing some games first before we judge. Training doesn't mean shit - remember how Maric and Bennell seemed to be 'burning up the track' every year?

Cam Pedersen was working night shifts at bunnings and then going straight to training while he was rookie with NM just to pay the rent and provide for his young family.

He has a 'workrate' of the highest quality.

I'm sure there's a joke about North's financial state in there somewhere.

In fairness to North, the guys i have spoken to had glowing reviews of him, but just didn't have a spot for him. Bit like Martin i guess; if we didn't have Jamar, Spencer, Fitz, Gawn and to a lesser extent Clark then he may have not been on the trade table.

I honestly don't know why he didnt get an extended run in the seniors last year. He was absolutely killin it for werribee all year but never got a look in due to the Hansen/Petrie/Tarrant combo.

He is a natural footballer who has worked bloody hard to get to where he is.

Has excellent skills for a big man and his workrate is first class. Always covers a lot of ground. On a number of occasions he showed that he was more than capable playing at AFL level has a forward. He basically won a game off his own boot for us a few years ago against Essendon! Three big contested marks in the 2nd half when the pressure was on. I always felt he would have made an excellent forward if he had of been given an extended run at it. Unfortunately we threw him all over the ground and he never had the chance to settle in a position. With Dawes/Clark/Howe in the forward line he will provide an excellent third option either playing close to goal or playing up the ground. His set shot is excellent and he always provided good dfence aswell.

Due to his contested marking and workrate I think he will be more valuable to you than Stef Martin.

How good was that performance?!?! I love the North V Essendon matches, especially when North can rub their noses in it! That was a classic match to be at! Unfortunately I only have a North membership this year, no more AFL membership, so I will have to sit in the crap seats this year at Docklands.

I was always a massive wrap for Pedo from the get-go at North, I was astounded that Lachie Hansen was keeping him out of the side!

He works his arse off, after 2012, Martin was done at the dees.

After seeing last nights matches, backs up everything said above, can already see that Ped is a far better forward option than Martin, but not as good a ruck option. Seems Neeld will be backing Jamar to do 80-90% ruck work, so better to have another big forward, who can ruck and go back if required. Roos fans in general rate him very highly for versatility. Will probably take Sellars position / role from last year, so Sellar will have to prove himself a worthy key defender to get into the team I would have thought.

Yeah, he looked a bit rusty, but you can tell that with a less crowded forward line and a bigger ground he will be lively.
