I think I need to change the way I view hurley's games. He doesn't look like an Aussie rules player. He doesn't have that lovely classy gait that crozier or weller have, he looks awkward when he handpasses and he seems to get caught between contests. But he is effective. He definitely knows how to use his body in a 1 on 1. He did some clever things today and it was his best game in a very short career. A few weeks back I thought he was at least a few years from getting a game. After today I think he could press for a game next year.

I think you mean Nick Davis ???great report, keep up the great effortI only stayed for the first half today. It was simply too cold and I didn't dress for the weather.
What I saw was very encouraging.
I've already given my big wraps for Weller and Blakely in an earlier post. What a pair they are going to make in our midfield. Very complimentary types too. Blakely the inside ball magnet and Weller the outside Rolls Royce delivering the ball inside 50 lace out. Even better is that Blakely is more than handy outside and Weller goes very very hard at contests and knows how to go in and get it himself.
Other than that I liked what I saw of Moller. His ruck work was decent and made an ok target up forward, holding a few marks and converting. He's not splitting packs or leading up the ground but when he's in space and ball gets delivered he can get it done.
Hurley was a pleasant surprise. He looked really good a couple of plays, his disposal needs work but he's a big boy that moves well and is very competitive. Definitely something to work with there.
Duffy is a weird one. He has the uncanny ability to look like a total hack at WAFL level at times. Runs himself into trouble. Hungry around goal, snapping the ball out of packs without looking and getting smothered rather than looking for a hand off. Then he does something really cool. Not sure he will make it but I fantasise about him being our version of Nick Smith who kicked Sydney into a premiership with a miraculous few minutes of footy and never did much else.
Of the rest I though Langdon looks a real prospect, Hughes can play, Ballard while not filling with me the excitement that some here have for him is definitely a factor. TV showed a surprising aptitude as a forward. Kicked a long goal from a set shot and did some good crumbing work. Croz is to good to be playing at this level but who knows when he will get a chance.
Mz was great but there was never any question of whether he could dominate at this level. Griff didn't set the world on fire but he's a solid and reliable workhorse. I wonder if he will ever reach the level he did briefly before he did his knee.

That's the one. Smith is their small defender. Cheers, will correct. And thanks for the propsI think you mean Nick Davis ???great report, keep up the great effort![]()

It was a solid performance from Peel against South Fremantle. I thought Sowfs looked very poor in the first half but they improved in the second and had a real crack in the first half of the last qtr but goals to Mz, Blakely and then Mz again put the result beyond doubt. All the dockers played really well, there were no passengers today.
I was so distracted by the new guys, the quality of performances from some of our more established guys barely registered but its fair to say that Mz, Croz and Griff all played as you would expect "AFL players in waiting" to play in the second tier, with Mz being the pick of the bunch.
I've already mentioned that TV played quite well, probably his best game for Peel so far.
The same could be said for Moller, he was good when he went into the ruck, but as the stats show, their opposition was quite poor in that department. Moller looked alright up forward, he didn't take many marks but he did bring the ball to ground, a good forward crumber would have been handy.
Duffy got going in the second half and carried the ball up the ground on a number of occasions especially in the 3rd qtr. He kicked a good goal from a set shot from about 45 out. Hurley's performance was very encouraging, he dominated a number of opponents including Mugambwa, and used his size and mobility cleverly. He also got back to touch the ball through for a behind on the very last line of defence a couple of times. He kicked well, took on players and made some smart decisions. I really like Hughes and as a result I think I might overstate some of his performances. He was solid today and kicked well, one of his kicks was very good, he swooped on a ball on the HBF in traffic and switched the ball to the corridor where he pin pointed Mz in traffic. It was a courageous and well executed kick.
Tanner had a good game, unspectacular but very efficient. He took his opponent out of the game, spoiled very well and kicked accurately. Ballard and Grey did their usual thing. Ballard racked up some good numbers and Grey destroyed the ball in the marking contest. He took a very good mark in the first qtr leaping right over the top of his opponent. He's still the most likely player in the team to effect a spoil regardless of who his opponent is.
I must be a bit like Dory from Nemo, I'm easily distracted by new and shiny things and Weller, Blakely and Langdon are all very new and very shiny. The quality of their respective performances cannot be ignored, they all played exceptionally well but all in their own unique way. Langdon played both HF and HB, he carried the ball and delivered it accurately. Blakely was outstanding in the clinches, I've said it before but I am continually amazed at his ability to get a handball away in a tackle and I noticed him sprinting out of congestion 3 or 4 times today. I haven't seen him do that much before, he tends to hand ball from congestion but this seems to be a new facet to his game, or maybe I just haven't noticed it til today. Weller was outstanding in traffic and his disposal is elite. He's starting to "stack", as RTB says, some good performances together now which is really encouraging and will probably get an opportunity later in the year.

E Shed I was at he game as well yes it was bloody cold and the strong wind made the going very tough .
Like you I was impressed with how Moller is coming along but I couldn't understand Shepherd allowing Moller to play up the ground at times when Peel were kicking with the wind and only leaving the forward line without a Tall player inside the forward 70 metres of the ground .
Moller has a very good pair of hands and is also a very good judge of the ball in flight.
Tanner Smith has I'm afraid to say the Menengola disease .
He just doesn't read the ball in flight and has to watch where the ball has landed before he moves to make a contest .
Too many times today I watched players kicking the ball across their body when they had time to straighten up as well as trying to bounce the ball along the ground when kicking for goal .
The Cream rises to the top in poor weather and the ground is soft due to rain
Mzungu ,Weller ,Blakely , Crozier , Griffin , Grey and Langdon .
Sean Hurley was reading the play and putting in effort but he has a lot to learn about body position and where to run when Peel were coming out of the backline . a number of times he just didn't know where to run to to give an option to the guy kicking in . His positioning at stoppages though was quite good and by jove he is not only tall but very strong through the core . There a lot to work with .

Wonder how he would have gone against Tory Dixon today?Forgot to say I'm on the Bootsma bandwagon now. Very good defender who generals the defense & has a great boot.
And Grey was good too. Probably understudy for Spurr. Damn he tough!

Couldn't have gone much worse than Sutty or whoever had the job.Wonder how he would have gone against Tory Dixon today?
Was very surprised they didn't put Duffield on Dickson, instead of Ling Jong. Duffield was fresh, Ling Jong had done nothing all game and Tory Dickson was their only really dangerous forward. I guess Sutty had done ok on him for the first 3 quarters (from what I saw on the replay), but he got smashed in the last.Duff would've done the job on Dickson IMO.
Yeah, but Sutty probably needed to stay home a bit more, when Bullies had the run of the play. We don't seem to take that into account when the other team is having a run on.Dickson kicked most of the goals on the turnover from memory (rewarded for letting his defender run off him). It was just as much the dog (if you'll pardon the pun) having his day as poor defending.
RTB alluded to it in the presser. Along the lines of "some of our backs thought they were full fwds and it got out the back. We've already spoken about it with them. It won't be happening again".Yeah, but Sutty probably needed to stay home a bit more, when Bullies had the run of the play. We don't seem to take that into account when the other team is having a run on.
