If you listen to a lot of guys who don't do a massive amount of media they will all start with trigger words while they work out what they are actually going to say, stuff like yeah absolutely, I suppose, I guess, etc etc etc. It's annoying but it's much better and less obvious then ummmmmmmm, I think it's just a sign of being careful when considering your answers. Which is always a good thing, obviously the more you do it the more natural you become and also you can improvise on your time buying mix up your I supposes with your yeah absolutely's etc. He talks well and is a natural leader at a young age. I think he is a shoe in as next captain.

Problem with pendles is it isn't just at the start of his answers, its often at the end of sentences, sometimes it can come out several times in the one sentence.

I think ummmm would actually be less annoying. Or better yet I wish they would just slow down a bit. They dont have to answer the millisecond the question ends. They can take a second to think, or atleast as long as it takes to say "i suppose", before they answer.

Mick comes to mind - slow and deliberate, he probably takes it a little too far though. Sometimes taking what seems like an eternity to answer, often prompting the questioner to rephrase just to fill the dead air... actually he probably does that on purpose lol.

With pendles and most players it is probably just nerves, which is of course understandable and forgivable, but doesn't make it any less annoying to listen to.

Dawes' old man played ammos (in glasses)
He was also a Professor of History at Melbourne Uni (Australia's premier Uni in regards to history) before he retired to his antique bookshop.

Dawes is presently studying for a Law degree. He's even more academically minded than Clement - but he just doesn't look like a braniac.

... I had no idea he was THAT good at basketball. I knew he was good, but not THAT good. It hink from HIS perspective he made the wrong choice. Could have been on far more money in the NBA. Not that there was a guarantee he would have made it though.
Very VERY unlikely he would've made it in the NBA. At his height, the only position he could have plaedy would have been point guard. And while he may well have the skills for this, the NBA also demands elite speed by their point guards. Pendles leg speed is good but there are plenty quicker than him. It's also the position with the most competition for a spot (basically nearly every talented basketballer under 198 cm in America).

He made the right, logical choice

Bugger, decided to just stick to the Couch and this episode comes up.

Gonna spend a minute or two searching for a copy online but I don't like my chances somehow.

The trick to be a good speaker for the club is say stuff that is interesting to the fans but boring to anyone outside the club. That means staying away from any negative comments about other clubs, or football in general or anything that might be said by Aker or Sam Newman.

The speaker needs to be intelligent like Maxwell or Pendlebury but not committed to honesty. You dont want someone representing the club, if they have a strong need to be honest. I think Medhurst is the type who could have problems here, but he keeps his nose clean. The last thing you want from a captain or a club representative is someone who has a strong streak of independence. Individual thought is a real worry for obvious reasons. It's a double worry if the person has a strong need for attention. Health Shaw certainly has the need for attention, but I dont think there's much thinking going on upstairs.....He needs to be watched though, and probably given compulsory courses in anti-Aker behaviour.

Pendles looks to be a safe bet for the future..

Reasonable way to put it but I suppose I like to listen to people who have the capacity for independent thought. I think Max does a very good job in fact.

Personally I think Medhurst is one of the best speakers we have had in my time supporting the club though. I agree on Shaw which is a shame because personally I think he is the most natural on-field leader we have had in a long time. He just bleeds for the cause, is extremely vocal and a good on-field example. The only problem is that he takes it too far and often loses it at his teammates.

Current setup: Captain>Nick Maxwell. Vice-Captain>Scott Pendlebury
Future setup: Captain>Scott Pendlebury. Vice-Captain>Harry O'Brien
