Bill Shorten calls for more answers after review finds government contracts failed to meet standards

"More needs to be done to find out what was the basis of the allocation for $374 million worth of taxpayer money under the previous government. Why weren't the basic standards met? It is completely unacceptable."

I understand the politics makes it attractive.

Someone signed off on the contracts. Its that simple, unless no one can recall.

This is beyond disrespectful ......

Here is how the chamber looked as Mark Dreyfus introduced the constitutional amendment bill for the Indigenous voice to parliament referendum.

Michael Sukkar is sitting in Peter Dutton’s chair.

The government benches were full as attorney general Mark Dreyfus introduced the constitutional alteration bill to advance the Indigenous voice – but it was a different story on the opposition side, with little more than a dozen Coalition MPs initially in the chamber.

More filtered in as Dreyfus gave his speech, with about 25 by the end – but that number did not include either opposition leader Peter Dutton or deputy Liberal leader Sussan Ley. Nationals leader David Littleproud was in the room, as was shadow Indigenous Australians minister and shadow attorney general Julian Leeser.

perhaps they were being excessively careful to not get in the way of any parlimentary officials and so entered chamber at snails pace lol

Have you never watched Parliamentary sittings anywhere in the world ? Yes disrespectful & unremarkable.

Give them a break … they are obviously out side the chamber looking for more detail.

So Dutton and Sussssssan have been rabbiting on for months about wanting to see more detail decide not to turn up when they are discussing it in more detail?

We all know Barnaby Beetrooter was at the parliament house bar getting in a early morning drink so he was never expected to turn up.

The question is: Was whoever signed it off influenced by the Minister, who was friends with the contractor?. Did the contractor and Minister talk about it when they shouldn't have?

Oh, I'm sure none of them will recall.

The starting point is to question whomever signed off on the contract. Not the indians, interrogate the chiefs.
The starting point should only take a matter of hours.
Where is there is no evidence to support the process leading to awarding the contract, the deal stinks (to high heaven).
Go harder, you've got a live one. The vast majority of contracts should be eliminated at that point.

It's going to be fascinating to see where he goes from here strategically, because I think he can go one of three ways:

1. Completely blow it up and start again, strongly consider changing his stance on key issues to listen to what the public is apparently telling them.

2. Make a couple of concessions and scale back the culture wars, make a few signs that they're keen to be more collaborative.

3. Dig in and double down, make zero concessions and hope the Government stuffs up (the 2008-13 playbook).

I'd bet anything that they'll go the third option. Good luck with that.

Option 3. But they aren't doubling down. Will go all-in
