Given that he has only passed 50 once in his last 14 test and ODI innings at the WACA, I would have though Ponting would be delighted to have a game off.

I wonder if a bowler might make way for Forrest?

4 bowlers plus 10 overs of dibbly dobs from DHussey and Clarke?
Doubt that that will happen, since they've confirmed that X Doherty will be playing. We wouldn't go into a game at the WACA with only two "quicks", I don't imagine. Clarke did look very good with the ball the other night though and David Hussey had an ODI bowling average of 21 from the 11 innings he bowled in last year, so that wouldn't be the worst idea on some other pitches.

Well it looks like those reports were completely false (unless there was a late change of mind) as we've gone in with the same team from the last game. Fair enough, too, I reckon. :thumbsu:
Maybe the likes of Warner, Punter and the Hussey's started throwing the toys out of the cot when it was suggested to them that they step aside for Forrest. Considering the next game is at the Adelaide Oval (AKA batting paradise) I dare say they'll be even less likely to want to for that game!

Yes and no - I think if I was part of the Queensland setup I'd be a bit annoyed that my best bastman for summer was off playing glorified drinks waiter, while Mitch Marsh (who is also in the squad along side Forrest) was cleared to play a crucial 1st v 2nd shield match. It's almost like the selectors were trying to get WA across the line (which, given Invararity, Marsh, and Arthur I'd believe, but you'd have thought Bichel wouldn't stand for it...)

Really Forrest should either have been

a) Playing in the Shield match OR
b) Playing at least one of these ODIs

What's ended up happening suggests the selectors think it's been better off for his development to hang around the Australian ODI dressing rooms than have a chance to score some more runs at shield level - which just seems odd.

Edit: I really hope it's not because the selectors didn't want to hurt the feelings of Ponting and the Hussey's - a selection panel needs to be able to tell players, regardless of who, that they're having a game off, and if they can't then they're just not very good at their jobs!

They should have sent him back for the first 2 ODIs, what was the point in having him here when he could have played Shield cricket on a lively deck to test his form this season. Then he could come in for the 3rd ODI and miss Queensland Ryobi cup game.

I think ponting, or even Warner could be rightfully pissed off if they went to Perth to be rested. if Forest was to play today the decision needed to be made Monday - its hardly a rest to fly across the country, train all week and end up cutting oranges.

Now the selectors are just wasting the time of Forrest. WHy didn't he play the shield game this week if he wasn't going to play last night. Absolute joke.

What about Ben Hilenhaus? They stopped him playing a domestic match to have him sit on the bench for one match in Perth. Why do they need so many players hanging around the squad when the matches are at home?

Hilfy was rested from the NSW game so he didn't miss it because of his call up.

forrest might come in when wade is replaced by haddin, because they can't trust haddin to be worth anything.

So wade and a bowler out, forrest and baddin in, dhussey, clarke to make up the 5th bowler.

either that or bat wade way way down the order.

PETER Forrest will make his debut for Australia in Adelaide today after a farcical selection process that has harmed his momentum and could cost Queensland the Sheffield Shield.
Mike Hussey will remain in Perth to rest following Friday night's nail-bitting victory over Sri Lanka, making room for Forrest to play against India at the Adelaide Oval this afternoon.

But it was the refusal of senior players to rest in the opening two matches against India and Sri Lanka that forced the all-rounder to carry the drinks.

How does bowling 8 overs in his entire state career make him an all-rounder ?

paranoid posts about CA and the selection process can be detrimental to posting habits...:thumbsu:

He plays so straight, almost too straight. The number of times he has simply hit the ball straight back to the bowler has been ridiculous. But he will work on that.

Ponting has got to go, just play Tests now mate.

you were probably one of those armchair experts who called for his head in the test side as recently as 6 weeks ago...

Don't worry mate, he will probably get another 2 years of poor scores to prove himself again. By then he will make a few runs against a rampant Bangladeshi side and you can come back here and roll your eyes at me like a true pompous twat :thumbsu:

forrest has come a long way from not being able to score a run in sydney grade cricket last season.

Well Forrest certainly looked the part. Looked to have it altogether. Technique good, played the spinners very well. Like the look of him. Selectors aren't doing too badly actually.

Question mark over the short ball at his body, didn't look comfortable so would like to see him get a couple more games with the opposition now knowing that is a weakness. He at least showed he plays the pull shot so that is is a start.

Looked really good against the spinner which is a welcome change as usually our new batsmen are all at sea against them.

Good technique. A few minor flaws, but all batsmen have weaknesses. I'm interested to see how he'll do in the coming months. Like others have said, he obviously wasn't the worst selection.
