Cmon, surely I cant be the only one hoping that the Hawks draft Selwood with Pick 6!

macca? HBF? SOMEONE say it will happen! :o

I would think that you wouldnt take selwood because you have an abundance of inside mids. I would think the berger or seller would be great for you guys.

I'd be very surprised if you ended up with Selwood, as I have explained in another thread. I think who you guys pickup will turn out to be better than Selwood anyway.

As good as Selwood could be, i'm just not sure he's the type of player the Hawks need on their list.

If it was me, i'd be targeting Sellar to pretty much replace Everitt, or taking someone like a Jetta who has some pace that Hawthorn need.

Alas, oh well. While my heart will still be on us picking up Selwood, Leuenberger, Thorp or Sellar would also be great pick-ups.

I'm just so glad that the depth of blue-chip talent in this draft falls all the way down to Pick 6-7.

Melbourne Selection #12 – Shane Edwards (Nth Adelaide) 179cm, 76kg

Melbourne has no glaring weaknesses on their list, but retirements in the next few years mean they will target talls at some stage. However they have 4 picks in this draft and can go for best available in the first round.

Edwards is a quick outside wingman with all the tools to make it in the AFL. Good skills, great motor and work ethic, runs all day and works hard both ways. Is physical and likes to tackle despite his slight frame. Athletically he reminds me of a shorter Jordan Russell with better natural football ability and a style of game similar to Dale Thomas. Will end up being a hard running, goal kicking wingman and will complete Melbourne’s on ball brigade nicely. Height is a slight concern at 179cm but he is solid overhead and has a good running and standing vertical leap. Will need to put on at least 4-5kg to be good AFL playing weight but has the frame to do so. Testing at draft camp shows the type of athletic endurance midfielder that the demons usually go for, will be running harder in the 4th quarter than others. Seemed to disappear in the champs in the HFF graveyard but his performances amongst men in the SANFL since have been most impressive, being named in the best players for North Adelaide reserves six times, and once in the seniors. 11 tackles in the SANFL preliminary final shows he is not intimidated by the big stage playing against men makes it all the more impressive.

great pick-up Gilly. This kid could become something special IMO. Tenacious at the contest.

Well done :thumbsu:

Gentlemen,

I will not be online after 6ish Perth time this evening and as such have asked Monocle to post my pick if it comes up.

In the event that he too can't make it online, Macca shall hopefully be able to post for me as I'll Pm now.

Cheers

Speaking of Weaver, has onyone seen him tonight?

Weaver had a great night last night, thanks for asking :D

To business. Ummmmmm.

#13 Richmond - Daniel O'Keefe (Geelong).

At Richmond we want a midfielder. We want him to be a guy who can turn a match and demand a tagger. Ideally he should be quick and skilled by foot. We have the tough choice between a group of 4 or 5 and called for a time extension to have an old fashioned barny about whether to take Boak or O'Keefe.

In the end Terry Wallace was so distracted when he heard that O'Keefe was like a young Nathan Brown that we couldn't talk him into taking Boak instead. Boak's injury hampered season made us nervous.

Normally I would overlook a HFF (always) particularly with Pettifer, Tambling and Meyer - but O'Keefe killed them last year. He has too much proven form to ignore. As much as Richmond fans are iffy on Pettifer he did have a great season for us and seems ideally suited to the game plan - O'Keefe should thrive too as he is similar.

O'Keefe is a 184cm wingman / forward who could become a superb running back-pocket in the modern style. He covers every blade of grass. Takes over 8 marks a game because opponents can't track him. Kicked almost 40 goals from the wing. Very efficient kick. We love that his kicks (274) to handball (55) ratio shows a guy who never, ever gets caught and forced to give up a panic handball.

Little bit concerned that he doesn't win his own football, but not too paniced because he probably won't need to in a league where you can be All-Australian without winning a contested possesion all season.

Sounds like a sensational pick up Weaver.. BTW, great little comment/summary!

I have been losing sleep over who the hell to pick here, very much a tough decision with around 4 players right in the mix. But I firmly believe it is best available with your first pick and with that said I am going for a midfielder over a KP with the first pick, the crows have wasted the first pick on a good young KP in the past (not last year) so I am going for the safest and yet best available imo.

Pick #14 Daniel Connors

I know I picked this bloke in the trial but I certainly gave it a helluva lot of thought. It is no secret the crows need more midfielders, especially in a side that will have a number of them retire in one big hit - Ricciuto, Edwards, Goodwin, McLeod will all go bang bang bang quite rapidly and the engine room will take a strong hit. There is NO substitute for midfield quality, just look at West Coast and Brisbane in their prime. The crows still need to add more to theirs, we have found some good kids in the past in Douglas, VB, Knights, Porplyzia etc but it is time to find more.

I was tossing up between Jetta, Connors, Riewoldt and O'Brien...

Connors is a highly skilled midfielder with an excellent kick and can play both inside and outside. Has good pace, good acceleration and a good strong mark. Is the type of classy midfielder that would slot right into the crows engine room, no fuss, no nonsense, a bloke who will put his head down and get the job done. I value foot skills highly, especially when they are combined with an ability to win the ball in traffic, something which is is very good at. One on one he is excellent, very agile, very strong, very smart and versatile can go back or even down to HF if need be.

Lacks a little bit in the strong tackling but Craig is the master as turning semi soft players into hard nuts - he turned Doughty from a outside squealer into a hard hitting, strong bodied attacking midfielder. With his emphasis on strong, hard footy, Connors will only improve this side of his game to compliment the outstanding skills he has and that was too good to ignore.

Guys I'm at work and will take my pick today, just be patient. Shouldn't have to wait more than an hour for mine when it comes up.

Cheers

Great pick-up Weaver, this kid could be the best by foot in the draft aswell.

# 10 (Collingwood) - Tom HISLOP

Slight shock I am sure and certainly very tough decision to let Sellar slip but ultimately what swung me was the clubs view that they are rebuilding the mids. Very happy to get both Hislop and Proud as I believe we now have two midfielders with a combo of grunt, passion, pace. With Egan, Thomas, Didak, Pendlebury, H.Shaw, Swan playing outside these the Pies have completed what they set out to do with trading Tarrant. tazz was not traded for another tall - he was traded to get us two of the best mids IMO,

Hislop is your classic inside mid. Terrific height of 184cm and already reasonably developed. Loves to tackle and thrives on the hard stuff. MM style of player 2. Think of Lenny Hayes.

Pies fans will be split on this one!
sounds real good to me snoop

Great pick up Weaver! Would've been happy with either O' Keefe or Boak. It looks like in the actual draft Richmond will be in a position to be able to pick 1 of these guys us, which i am very happy about.

Top stuff and looking forward to our next pick :thumbsu:

lads shall be on by 3.50 perth time in the event that my pick is up, so can you guys wait for me if that's the case.

cheers
