Melbourne has no glaring weaknesses on their list, but retirements in the next few years mean they will target talls at some stage. However they have 4 picks in this draft and can go for best available in the first round.
Edwards is a quick outside wingman with all the tools to make it in the AFL. Good skills, great motor and work ethic, runs all day and works hard both ways. Is physical and likes to tackle despite his slight frame. Athletically he reminds me of a shorter Jordan Russell with better natural football ability and a style of game similar to Dale Thomas. Will end up being a hard running, goal kicking wingman and will complete Melbourne’s on ball brigade nicely. Height is a slight concern at 179cm but he is solid overhead and has a good running and standing vertical leap. Will need to put on at least 4-5kg to be good AFL playing weight but has the frame to do so. Testing at draft camp shows the type of athletic endurance midfielder that the demons usually go for, will be running harder in the 4th quarter than others. Seemed to disappear in the champs in the HFF graveyard but his performances amongst men in the SANFL since have been most impressive, being named in the best players for North Adelaide reserves six times, and once in the seniors. 11 tackles in the SANFL preliminary final shows he is not intimidated by the big stage playing against men makes it all the more impressive.

To business. Ummmmmm.
#13 Richmond - Daniel O'Keefe (Geelong).
At Richmond we want a midfielder. We want him to be a guy who can turn a match and demand a tagger. Ideally he should be quick and skilled by foot. We have the tough choice between a group of 4 or 5 and called for a time extension to have an old fashioned barny about whether to take Boak or O'Keefe.
In the end Terry Wallace was so distracted when he heard that O'Keefe was like a young Nathan Brown that we couldn't talk him into taking Boak instead. Boak's injury hampered season made us nervous.
Normally I would overlook a HFF (always) particularly with Pettifer, Tambling and Meyer - but O'Keefe killed them last year. He has too much proven form to ignore. As much as Richmond fans are iffy on Pettifer he did have a great season for us and seems ideally suited to the game plan - O'Keefe should thrive too as he is similar.
O'Keefe is a 184cm wingman / forward who could become a superb running back-pocket in the modern style. He covers every blade of grass. Takes over 8 marks a game because opponents can't track him. Kicked almost 40 goals from the wing. Very efficient kick. We love that his kicks (274) to handball (55) ratio shows a guy who never, ever gets caught and forced to give up a panic handball.
Little bit concerned that he doesn't win his own football, but not too paniced because he probably won't need to in a league where you can be All-Australian without winning a contested possesion all season.

Great pick-up. I suspect he is a bit of a Scott Clayton special though and wont get past pick 11.Thunderstruck said:Pick #14 Daniel Connors
sounds real good to me snoopSnoop Dog said:# 10 (Collingwood) - Tom HISLOP
Slight shock I am sure and certainly very tough decision to let Sellar slip but ultimately what swung me was the clubs view that they are rebuilding the mids. Very happy to get both Hislop and Proud as I believe we now have two midfielders with a combo of grunt, passion, pace. With Egan, Thomas, Didak, Pendlebury, H.Shaw, Swan playing outside these the Pies have completed what they set out to do with trading Tarrant. tazz was not traded for another tall - he was traded to get us two of the best mids IMO,
Hislop is your classic inside mid. Terrific height of 184cm and already reasonably developed. Loves to tackle and thrives on the hard stuff. MM style of player 2. Think of Lenny Hayes.
Pies fans will be split on this one!
