what now Hodgey? submit rookie lists or go another round?

Guys, either now or at the end of the Rookie draft could each of you do a wrap up of the team you picked for and the reasons why you picked each player i.e. best available, etc.

A few of the teams have gone a bit different to what I would have thought and I would be interested to hear your drafting strategies.

Good idea Couch Coach, but i suggest we do this at the end of the phantom draft proper, not now.

you get a few of these in the same post where the pick was made, although understandably, coaches are keeping their cards close to their chest. However I expect that come the real thing, most of my picks will be similar to the ones picked in this draft, although it will depend a lot on what the others do also, and the changed draft order will change the scenarios a bit too I imagine.

Jetta is more than a HFF and i wouldnt be suprised one bit if richmond took Leroy with there first pick. Krakouer is a FP and rumours are he will be traded and Brown will be 29 and be more of a permanent FP next year.

True, however some people see Jetta's ability to run in the midfield as limited at best, Jetta isn't seen as a true midfielder, more of a flashy HFF who can play center, but most likely would play forward line.

In that, we have a player in Tambling who is almost identical and should serve us in good stead for the next 10 years, with Richmond having that one covered, why would we pick another flanker, when we have more gaping holes in our backline, ruck list and KPP setup?

When it comes to our real phantom draft i will try to keep in mind Melbourne's needs, but as i have stated before i see their list as having no glaring deficiencies so who i consider to be best available would be my approach....whether this coincides with what i think Melbourne will do in the draft, well who even knows who will be available at their pick, i am relying on the 'punters' before me to get those picks correct too. In other words i am choosing as if i were the Melbourne RM (thank god for them I'm not!!) with still keeping in mind team balance and needs. In other words, i don't think readers should necessarily look towards this phantom draft as beinig a good predictor of who will go where, because there are too many different people involved, no doubt with varying levels of football knowledge. I would be looking more towards Burgatron's phantom draft that he does each year on the AFL web-site.

Yeah, Melbourne is more balanced so they can afford to draft top-ups. The thing about Richmond is that we are not in that position to do that, with holes in ouir defence, forwardline and ruck still apparent. Alot of this is guesswork, which makes the phantom draft a good effort, as you mention wait until Burgan comes out, but even he gets a fair share of picks wrong so at this stage before the camp, it's alot of guesswork.

You hit the nail on the head there.

i reckon that daniel currie would be a great pick up to the likes of collingwood who are in need of a new back up ruckman that they can develop

I thougt he was a steal Ernie at pick 77.I believe that he will go a lot higher as he is the perfect development ruckman.

Selection 83 - Carlton - Todd Goldstein (Oakleigh Chargers)

To be honest, have not seen him play, but have read a bit on him in a thread on BF and other forums as well, plus talking to other posters as well.

Tremendous upside, basketball background, good skills for a guy over 200cm.

Nice guesswork mate :)

In HBF's defence he was damned if he didn't take a project ruckman (by CFC fans) and damned if he did (takes a punt on heresay), i doubt the blues will have a selection this deep in the draft so why not?? Good pick HBF (i haven't seen him play either and am guessing !!!!)
